I am buying it to use for cool camera shots and to have the goggles and convert my analog setups to digital. paying 600 bucks for the goggles themselves felt weird but somehow getting a built drone with a transmitter and the goggles for 400 more makes it feel like a steal.

DJI is absolutely perfect for the beginner that only ever wants to fly the DJI FPV drone, and with DJI's track record when it comes to under selling products, Id say enjoy it while you can, the rest of us will wait.

how i started: 10 hours in lift off + ready to fly tiny woop set including googles and controller (get one where the radio can be used for sim) its not that hard to get started way cheaper than buying a 1.5k drone that breaks on your first real crash
Pretty nicely covered! I'm really curious about a 2.0 of this. Better Handling, more durable/modular replaceability and with the 1" cam of the current mavic2 maybe... this would be a really awesome device. I'm pretty iffed about the rather bad camera quality given that cam looks pretty professional. This makes this drone a compromise that covers everything a little bit but nothing quite right - and so for each target area it's a worse choice than the competitors... A better cam would have maybe increased the price 100-200 bucks? Would have been worth it to tackle the cinematic FPV market which is the closest this drone can reach.
I'm going to wait and see what the V2 has to offer. If it has a stronger build (or easier repairs) and better video quality with props out of view - I might well give it a go for long range.
The thing is…. I love my DJI fpv drone. I actually just love DJI in general. I had an OG phantom 2 back in the day and modified it for FPV with a fat shark VTX and the good old fashioned black pearl monitor lol. I look at it like this. When people get licenses to fly planes, they buy quality planes. They don’t build their own planes. Having the GPS system, assisted flight, obstacle detection, and a pretty decent camera to me are like buying a high quality aircraft/plane. Instead of building one( who the fuck builds their own plane lol) maybe just me but I love DJI and I love my FPV. Great product, great drone, and overall just a great company. Like buying a Cessna or something.
I’m thinking of getting one to start. And then go traditional. That’s way I already have the goggles and stay digital. Also a sub 250 drone will get around the legalities without needing licensing and approval
Good points, but I really think the price should be considered as a con too. Idk what the price of this quad inc flymore with 3 batteries and a couple sets of props will run you, but it's gotta be closing in on twice the price of a decent digital BNF setup. That's pretty insane considering the mediocre picture quality with props in view.
Well I think a lot of people out there are happy to pay a premium for convenience. Other DJI drones are equally expensive and those are incredibly popular. I agree, having props in view was a strange choice but luckily they can be removed with a slight crop.
Hey Matt, been loving your channel since I've started in FPV. From what I've seen, I THINK you're Canadian. Just wondering if you are anywhere near Toronto. Would love to fly with you if so. Really enjoyed the lipo battery videos. They helped me out a lot.
The dealbreaker for me is lack of interoperability with their other drones, even ones like the Air 2S which should in theory have the required connectivity.
Look up ken herons review. It sums up this thing nicely. Its not a beginner drone, nor a professional drone, and so may for sale shows its no ones drone.
3:40 they don't give you longer flight time then normal lipos. They are heavier. And in my opinion they are way more dangerous then li-ion batteries. The only thing that is safer is the charging because you can't change the Amp and the plastic casing of course
Hi Matt, if my voltage of my 6S battery is around 3.05 - 3.1V per cell, is it worth while to correctly dispose of the battery? What range is acceptable to re-charge (I Accidentally went beyond the 3.5V threshhold)
is it possible to fly any other smaller, cheaper kinda cinewhoop fpvs when u bought the DJI Fpv set and own only this controller and goggle. what do i need to start getting into cinewhoops and which one do you recommend? love ur videos
The fpv is my very first drone. Because it is easy to get in with all the security assistance systems for crash prevention. Also I liked the sci-fi style of the goggles and that I can use it on my pc, if I can get it right with an AV-adapter X D For getting started, it is a nice choice. But the entry costs are high. So I got mine from ebay for 400 bucks less. including the 2 additional batteries. Maybe I will get the digidapter and a little cheaper fpv drone for indoors later on. So I dont have to replace the goggles.
Hey Matt I saw you have the GepRC cinelog25 could you do a comparison between whoops? Possibly Protek 35, Diatone and Cinelog25. Eventhough it's not a ducted whoop
I don't plan on it at the moment, but the cinelog is great if you want to fly it with a naked GoPro. It flies really well and is incredibly stable. The protek has more power and speed. It's almost a hybrid of a cinewhoop and a freestyle drone. I would recommend it for more traditional FPV shots where you need a bit of protection. I don't use the diatone much at all...
@@MattPochwat they still didn't make it good maybe next one will be better. I dream about drone which combine both - long range with its convenience of folding and acro possibilities at the same time. This isn't the thing which does the job yet.
I've used it a fair amount. I don't know if I'd say that I'm bored of it, but people have to be aware that it has its limitations. I'll never get bored of passing it off for friends and family to try though
If you answer this comment you will be the first youtuber to do it for me. Can you please tell me what the best beginner 5 inch freestyle drone under 250 with batter is? Love you!
Thanks for the video! If I understood correctly, RTH is activated when the battery is low? And is RTH activated if the signal is lost? I know you said that, but I've read a lot of reviews, and some reviews mention that there is no RTH if the signal is lost ... P.S. When is RTH activated, ie what percentage of the battery? P.S2. How good is the image in Goggles? P.S3. (and this is the last question LOL): how good is the image compared to DJI Mini 2? btw, new friend here!
Commenting on an old video here but you say you can get a better drone for the price at 9:24 but like.. not... really? When you factor in having to buy the controller the goggles and then the actual drone, also having to learn to solder and a 3d printer coming in seriously handy, 1200 dollars for an FPV drone that you only need charge and update to fly suddenly seems a lot more reasonable.
For me this is a good start from DJI into this world, but they still need to tune up several stuff: replacements, camera stabilization and goggles compatibilities with other models.... let's see in the next model how they perform... this one it is just too expensive for what it gives... Nice video though!!! ;)
3:42 DJI got rid of lipos? are they coming for my lipos too? bro they just made a mediocre lipo with a BMS and self charging. Yes it's much more convenient and easy but performance vise it's not so great, longer flight times? you would have that with a classic fpv quad too if you just put a 2000mha 6s on it ofcorse. not to mention they are $150
Great video as always Matt. DJI lowers the barrier for entry...but should that barrier be lowered? It's good that pilots should learn about their drone inside and out and all of their systems and how they work together. DJI FPV drone seems like a "cheat", buying a level-up instead of grinding...but many new pilots that never went through those entry barriers might find themselves with a twisted plastic mess very soon, hopefully with no victims on the ground (property or people).
You seem confused about wind. The only times a quad isn't encountering wind during flight is when it's in the hover on a dead calm day or if it's flying down wind straight and level and the groundspeed equals the windspeed. The rest of the time the quad will be experiencing wind.
It's not for me. I'm on a fixed income, and I'm a tech geek. Proprietary kit isn't my thing, and ease-of-operation out-of-the-box is secondary to me. My little 2S micro flies so well for me these days because of my input, not from a company's updates. I decide what to tweak, and what features and functions I wish to optimise. However, I'm not everybody. I can see it being the ideal solution for some people. But truth be told, it'll likely end up dust collector for most people, because of all the issues you mentioned.
Exactly the same feeling. DJI FPV drone is fun for exploring. But pretty useless as a camera drone and performance is just meh compared to even budget FPV drone options now.
Hey Matt! Im trying to get into fpv but on a buget of about 400 to 500$. (including googles, transmitter etc) And I'am also searching for a 75mm to 90mm quad or above with quite good battery time. Do you have any recommendations? P.s I never flew an fpv drone, and I dont have a pc so I cant practice in a simulator. And if im taking a 1s quad like a tinyhawk race ii, do you recommend me to buy the hobbymate D6 duo pro? ( to parallel charge 1s lipo and transmitter battery) And Keep up the great content Matt! You definitely deserve more subs. Thanks if you read it! - ixn
Drones: If you want to fly indoors, check out the Tiny Hawk 2 or the Mobula 7. The BetaFPV 85 Pro 2 is also a good alternative, but it's a little bit bigger/heavier If you want to fly outdoors, you can't go wrong with the Nazgul5 (v1 is cheaper). If you want something smaller, the Tiny Hawk 2 Freestyle won't disappoint too Radio: Buy the BetaFPV Lite Radio 2 SE, it's amazing as a starter radio and you can't beat the price to performance ratio. BetaFPV doesn't sell the non SE version anymore, but you can find it on AliExpress, and IMO it's way better because it supports OpenTX and you can modify it to add crossfire support. But if you just want something plug and play, the SE is great. Googles: Get the Eachine EV800D or EV800DM, they have a real Diversity receiver, not antenna Diversity like most cheap goggles. Charger: Don't buy the Hobbymate D6 duo pro yet, it's very expensive especially if you aren't hooked into the hobby and stop flying after a year. Buy an imax B6 instead, you can find it for $40-50 on Amazon or $20-30 on AliExpress and it can do everything (charge, discharge, storage, balancing) from 1S to 6S (it can even charge a car battery) If you add a couple of batteries and antennas, you should be around $400-500. Hope this helps
Interesting, but there's a big omission. You talk about the "regular person" but not about the cost of the whole package - drone, controller, goggles. Some of us have a limited budget, and as you did point out if you break it - surely likely for a beginner - that's going to be expensive. DJI kit is good but it's not entry-level cheap, and this quad won't work with your cheap analogue box goggles so it's all or nothing. Based on a previous video of yours I bought the BetaFPV Advanced Kit 2, but I've lost one quad, and broken another - it won't boot, no idea why, who do I ask? Add replacement frames (why do they give you spare props but not a frame?) and other bits and bobs and it adds up and I don't even have a flyable tiny-whoop right now. Plus I haven't even got into soldering yet. So your opening is correct. This is a hard hobby to get into. But to avoid some of that pain I feel like I'd have to throw a lot of money at DJI (and still risk having to spend more if something does break).
Also there's the question of the rules in various countries, how heavy is it, especially if you're not flying LoS. It's a more general point and probably out of scope of this video, but for me as a beginner getting something small and light I could fly in a park without hurting anyone was a major factor.
Yea the cost is definitely a big factor. It's not cheap. For some people the convenience is worth it, but for others it won't seem worth it at all. I think it's possible to fly the DJI quad safely without crashing it, but you definitely won't learn as much if you're not pushing yourself and breaking things like you clearly have been. I'd recommend searching facebook groups or discord servers for technical advice. There are a ton of people who are really knowledgeable out there that are willing to help.
Sorry to hear that you broke ur drones but a good simulator like velocidrone can help to avoid that. Trainig first - flying later I didnt break one drone because i learned the basic controls and the dynamic of freestyle-droneflight first. Sure i did hit a branch or two but that doesnt break the drone if its a carbon frame. To destroy a frame you have to headfirst fly into a concrete wall at high speed or let them drop from 300 feet.. What did you do to your drones to break the frame???
@@MattPochwat thanks. I should have started by saying said that I really like the channel. The "knowledgeable beginner" perspective is so helpful. I am ona couple of facebook groups, but they're often full of people posting amazing whoop race videos etc, and I don't want to be that guy who's always asking stupid questions!
@@mariusschmitt5855 thanks. I spent two months on liftoff (again as per Matt's advice) before getting the quad out of the box! The Meteor75 that comes with the Advanced Kit 2 has a plastic ducted frame (like most tiny-whoops I've seen). It has some bend but cracks or breaks pretty easily on impact. I think I've got through five frames but haven't broken a single prop (because they're protected by the frame).
I'd live to have one, it seems the best way to get into the hobby without losing too much time, definitely too expensive though. I'll stick with the simulator for now

Why go out and fish, when you can just buy processed fish at the store, right?
Look up ken herons review. It sums up this thing nicely. Its not a beginner drone, nor a professional drone, and so may for sale shows its no ones drone.
nice review -- where can I get a drone easy to sync, not as fragile as DJI, and usable for DJI Google?
I'm making a video on this soon. Message me on IG and I can give you some answers
3:40 they don't give you longer flight time then normal lipos. They are heavier. And in my opinion they are way more dangerous then li-ion batteries. The only thing that is safer is the charging because you can't change the Amp and the plastic casing of course
Thank you Matt for this review, you confused fly more combo with fly more kit though :D
Hi Matt, if my voltage of my 6S battery is around 3.05 - 3.1V per cell, is it worth while to correctly dispose of the battery? What range is acceptable to re-charge (I Accidentally went beyond the 3.5V threshhold)
Hello! Remember me? Do you think it is worth it to buy dji fpv system?
is it possible to fly any other smaller, cheaper kinda cinewhoop fpvs when u bought the DJI Fpv set and own only this controller and goggle. what do i need to start getting into cinewhoops and which one do you recommend? love ur videos
Any tips to put me on track if im interested in getting into competitive flyin?
The fpv is my very first drone.
Because it is easy to get in with all the security assistance systems for crash prevention.
Also I liked the sci-fi style of the goggles and that I can use it on my pc, if I can get it right with an AV-adapter X D
For getting started, it is a nice choice.
@@MattPochwat Gotcha, thanks yeah I love my Cinelog25 might grab the Protek next.
I do enjoy my dji pfv. Everyone within half a mile radius less so. It screams like a formula 1 compared to other dji drones
Nice one bro. I’ve been on the fence about this one. Still unsure. Nice as a tax write off tho
I think a DJI FPV Drone V2 would have potential.
@@MattPochwat they still didn't make it good maybe next one will be better. I dream about drone which combine both - long range with its convenience of folding and acro possibilities at the same time. This isn't the thing which does the job yet.
Well said.
It looks fun but I already got the ma2. It looks awesome though. I think I will wait till they come with a fpv2.
Have you seen Pawel Spychalski's DIY motion controller with iNav? It's pretty cool :)
But 1 crashed on the DJI FPV drone and you going to lose it forever two and the care refresh you have to pay 200 plus damage
Dji just murders the competition.
Will you be flying your regular FPV drones or are you permanently going to the dji one
I'm mostly going to keep my DJI quad to share FPV with more family and friends. I'll personally be flying my regular quads 99% of the time
Have you used the motion controller alot? If so was it boring after a while
I've used it a fair amount.
Love you!
Honestly, I haven't tested many quads under 250g but I might have to start when I'm back in Canada. Maybe I'll be able to answer you then.
P.S3. (and this is the last question LOL): how good is the image compared to DJI Mini 2?
btw, new friend here!
matt: probably easiest fpv drone to get into.
tinyhawk: >:(
Mine dropped for no reason whatsoever. Not sure if one of the rotors failed or something. Anyone else experienced the same?
great intro! like it!
Yea those are some great points. DJI care refresh isn't cheap if you break it!
lowers the barrier for entry, but not the entry price ;) 2K for a kit, no thank you. IMO it's a toy for rich normies
I got 2 arms Broken on the DJI FPV and the Landinggear Chips with the LED and Antennas broke and i pay 50€.
THIS IS HUGE!
You seem confused about wind. The only times a quad isn't encountering wind during flight is when it's in the hover on a dead calm day or if it's flying down wind straight and level and the groundspeed equals the windspeed. The rest of the time the quad will be experiencing wind.
Good review 👍, but i think this drone has some cinematic capability like regular freestyle quads.
Where are u Matt, we need new video dude!
Making those millions UA-cam money must be nice you can just move to an island and make videos, sounds like the life. 🔥
haha I wish. I already lived here before starting this channel and work full-time. If only UA-cam paid well... -_-
Nice stuffs…Vancouver island?
@@iversonwin I live in Korea!
Exactly the same feeling. DJI FPV drone is fun for exploring. But pretty useless as a camera drone and performance is just meh compared to even budget FPV drone options now.
Hey Matt!
Im trying to get into fpv but on a buget of about 400 to 500$.
(including googles, transmitter etc)
And I'am also searching for a 75mm to 90mm quad or above with quite good battery time.
Do you have any recommendations?
P.s I never flew an fpv drone, and I dont have a pc so I cant practice in a simulator.
And if im taking a 1s quad like a tinyhawk race ii, do you recommend me to buy the hobbymate D6 duo pro? ( to parallel charge 1s lipo and transmitter battery)
And Keep up the great content Matt!
You definitely deserve more subs.
Thanks if you read it!

Drones:
If you want to fly indoors, check out the Tiny Hawk 2 or the Mobula 7. The BetaFPV 85 Pro 2 is also a good alternative, but it's a little bit bigger/heavier
If you want to fly outdoors, you can't go wrong with the Nazgul5 (v1 is cheaper). If you want something smaller, the Tiny Hawk 2 Freestyle won't disappoint too
Radio:
Buy the BetaFPV Lite Radio 2 SE, it's amazing as a starter radio and you can't beat the price to performance ratio. BetaFPV doesn't sell the non SE version anymore, but you can find it on AliExpress, and IMO it's way better because it supports OpenTX and you can modify it to add crossfire support. But if you just want something plug and play, the SE is great.
Googles:
Get the Eachine EV800D or EV800DM, they have a real Diversity receiver, not antenna Diversity like most cheap goggles.
Charger:
Don't buy the Hobbymate D6 duo pro yet, it's very expensive especially if you aren't hooked into the hobby and stop flying after a year. Buy an imax B6 instead, you can find it for $40-50 on Amazon or $20-30 on AliExpress and it can do everything (charge, discharge, storage, balancing) from 1S to 6S (it can even charge a car battery)
If you add a couple of batteries and antennas, you should be around $400-500.
Hope this helps
Hey@@MrAlucardDante!
Thank you so much, this really helped me.
Trainig first - flying later
I didnt break one drone because i learned the basic controls and the dynamic of freestyle-droneflight first.
Thanks for your very nice and good underständing Video👍 I‘m from germany and my english is not so good as i would wish 😬
I'm glad it helped!
I live on an island to the Big Island
한국에서 잘 보고 있어요! 😊
I'd live to have one, it seems the best way to get into the hobby without losing too much time, definitely too expensive though. I'll stick with the simulator for now
