Although I like when it says “Andy” on the boot, I think it’s nice that the TSC one doesn’t have it so you can personalize it with your name. If you really want “Andy” it’s fairly easy to write it on the boot but if you don’t want it, it’s really hard to find the right shade of purple to paint over it and the extra layer of paint doesn’t look nice.

Almost everything you mentioned the Disney Store Buzz has. A fully retractable helmet is impossible physically because there would be no space for the helmet to go inside the toy. The only Buzz I know that has film accurate sound bytes is the original 1995 version, but even then he doesn't have "There's a secret mission in uncharted space, let's go". However, the newest non deluxe version of Disney Store's Buzz Lighyear does have all the in movie quotes, but alas they're not the exact sound bytes.
Alectric something they could also work on is add more articulation in the upper arm. I think they could get his arms to go down a bit further if they reworked the join mechanism, and make the black bits flexible rubber.
I can’t tell you how many hours I spent as a little kid (like 5 years old) trying to do things that movie Buzz could do that my really basic one couldn’t. I wasted so much time trying to do things like pressing on the side of the helmet to open it, pressing on the back attempting the “karate chop action,” and trying to open the wrist communicator. I appreciate Thinkway and Disney making these so much more detailed and movie accurate than the older ones.
I really want the 90$ version, the box really sells it and the face. I actually like that it doesn't say Andy on it too, it's my Buzz I bought him lol. I wish there was a version with the helmet and karate chop though.

In my opinion the Limited Edition Disney Store Buzz’s head sculpt looks a lot like the Toy Story one Buzz where as the Toy Story Collection one is like a Toy Story three head sculpt.
In terms of appearance, yes the Toy Story Collection version wins at that. But functionality, the Disney Store version wins by far. It seems that Thinkway is purposely throwing in inaccuracies in their collection despite being the actual models from the movies while the Disney Store doesn't have access to the actual in-movie models, but are still trying their hardest to make toys that are functionally accurate to the films.
To me, a kid would prefer a Buzz Lightyear that has all the in-movie features, and would prefer it over looks. Even then, I'm sure a child wouldn't tell the difference between a Disney Store Buzz and movie Buzz. This is coming from my own experiences when I had the original 1995 Woody and thought he looked exactly how he did in the movies, and the only thing setting it apart from the films was how he only had 2 phrases he said in the movie.
While technically not 100% film accurate (even just standing in sid's dimly lit room had him glow when he retreated to the bag), that is neat and forgivable as I don't know how a plastic can naturally glow without electricity.
Not possible to have the karate chop. They had to sacrifice that to make way for the working "high pressure space wings" complete with the movie accurate lights on the wings.
It actually glows really well if held in direct light first. The paint used is meant to absorb light as a safer alternative to using a paint that glows instantly.

I think the face sculpt on the disney store buzz is accurate to the first toy story movie and the collection edition is more accurate to toy story 3. In the first film Buzz had an overall more angular face design with a boxy head an uper lip curl and sharp thin eyebrows, but in the third film his hole face was remodeled to be more round and smooth. Each one is farley accurate depending on what movie you are thinking of.
What we need is to merge these two together and have a button for the wing to go up and down and the same for a helmet and for it to go ALL THE WAY DOWN and an accurate laser to actually stay on for a long time and actually be like a laser

Personally, I subtract points if it has any features that are NOT in the movie version, since that makes it less accurate. The TSC figure has way too many extra gimmicks that the movie version didn't have, plus it lacks two of the features that the movie DID have (karate chop action and auto-retracting helmet). Meanwhile, special edition Buzz would be perfect if it didn't mix Spanish phrases with English phrases (Spanish is supposed to be a completely separate mode). In my opinion the Disney Store exclusive Buzz is the most accurate since the only thing it's missing is the glow-in-the-dark feature. I wish they would just make a glow-in-the-dark version of that figure.
Both of them glow in the dark. Hold the TSC Buzz in direct light for a few moments, then turn off the light, and he will glow. The paint used is meant to absorb light to provide the glow, which is generally safer than paint that glows instantly.
Nah, TSC has the wrist communicator, individual finger movement and a flexible torso, also the flashing engines on the disney store buzz weren't a feature in the film either

Inspired by this video, I came up with an idea for the ideal Buzz Lightyear toy. From the Limited Edition Disney Store toy, it has the shade of green, whoosh thing, karate chop action, straight wings, glowing exhaust, and glow in the dark trim. From the Toy Story Collection toy, it has the extra space when the rings are retracted, the head, the rubber mid section, lack of a name on his foot, laser sound and effect, duration and sync of the wingtip lights (off from the exhaust, but that's okay), the "Talk Back" toggled with the green chest bar, the Space Ranger and Toy Buzz mode (toggled on my fictional toy with the blue chest bar; the red chest bar just speaks the Spanish voice clips of the Limited Edition Disney Store toy), sensors for determining if he is "flying" and when he has landed, and wiggle room between the top of the head and the helmet. I decided not to have the motor turn the head on mine. Also, I don't plan to really make it; it can remain in the realm of fiction.
I actually used to have a TSC Buzz but I sold it at a yard sale, not knowing how valuable it would be in the future 🤦♂️ Luckily I still have TSC Woody!
Alright, I think we all agree that Signature Collection only needs the Karate Hit, the Helmet thing, Andy on the boot and maybe Shining in the dark would be also cool.
The other thing you didn’t rate between the figures was the locking wrist communicators, the TSC Buzz responds to it being opened and closed as if Star Command was contacting him, or if Buzz is updating his mission log

How many different variants of the Disney Store Buzz release? Our Buzz has all the features of the Buzz on the left minus the crummy face - our face is a much better expression.
They have a few like normal buzz, then limited edition glow in the dark buzz, Spanish mode buzz with different face. That’s all I know of. From what I have seen they are almost always all identical the limited edition did have some new awesome features though like karate chop action. They also had a karate chop action buzz

The Toy Story Collection buzz is the most movie accurate one you can buy, however it's not good as a toy. It's not very durable and can get scratched easily. I'd say get that one but keep it in the box because its box is awesome and buy the disney store one for playing with.

Actually my grandpa bought me the Toy Story collection Buzz when I was around 8 years old and I played with him almost everyday!I still have him because he was my favourite toy and I can say that he is still in a good condition.The only thing that isn't in good shape are the stickers and that's mostly on me and the amount I played with him!In my opinion if a child is even a little careful and doesn't play with him too harshly he can be a good child toy!

@@todayigrewup I think proportions are fine except for the head and the helmet. Thanks to his big shoulders he looks much more fit than the TSC and from the side he is way more slim (the jetpack is way too thick on the TSC one and has an ugly gap which is not in the movie). Wings on disney store one have a different spreading system, but at least they look better when closed and are fully horizontal when opened, not oblique
Cloud pattern logo is 2009, white logo is 2010 and the yellow Signature collection is from 2011 and then they brought yellow signature collection back in 2019.
The buzz toy story collection glows in the dark better if you put it close in the light for a little time. When you turns off the light the glow is awesome.

You have the original signature collection from Toy Stoy 2; when toy Story 3 came out they updated the paint to glow better (and other slight changes) and is the same as the Toy Story 4 release. When it originaly came out you could get it at for $29.99 and continued to increase $30 every time a movie came out. The best Disney Store Exclusive Buzz is the one that came with the Evil Emperor Zerg because you could sync the voice clips to recreate the “I am you’re father “ scene on the elevator. Does this new Buzz have the Tim Allen Voice clips? What is the quality difference in the voice box?

That exactly what I want! I chase film accuracy but unfortunately the is what we have so far. Still happy with these but wish they were combined into one.
I’m amazed that Thinkway Toys hasn’t got with the program. They did a great job with the toy story collection line, and buzz’s wing span still looks incredible. But look.. Clearly there’s huge demand for a 100% movie accurate buzz and woody. It’s almost scandalous that the original film came out in 1995 and three movies later we still haven’t got them yet. It’s 2020 for Christ sake! It’s simple economics really, if the demand is there, why not do it? Thinkway have the licences, not only are they hurting the consumer, they are hurting their own bank balance. They would be hugely successful if they were 100% accurate. Makes me wonder if someone behind the scenes is deliberately making sure they can never be 100% accurate, in terms of face sculpts etc. And if so. Why?
I’ll let you in on a secret by the way I 100% agree with you. I think the reason why they don’t release a real movie accurate toy is because if they did.... they wouldn’t be able to sell us so many toys. Think about it. How many versions of Woody and Buzz exist? If they just gave us “the one to have” they couldn’t sell us another Woody or Buzz again.... they make more money selling Disney store and other versions of the toys that we will always spend our money on them. It could be a strategy of theirs.
That definitely seems very likely now you mention it. It’s a real shame if that’s the case. I’m hoping that one day Hot toys will make woody and buzz and show Thinkway up in how it can be done. I’d easily pay £250 for a completely movie accurate buzz. I know hot toys have the Toy story licence. If anyone could make a completely movie accurate woody and buzz it’s got to be Hot toys. None of these are really movie accurate. Thats what we need, especially a better glow in the dark one.

Great comparison. I have the limited edition Buzz from Disney. I like the Karate Chop action but the articulation is really poor on that arm.

I think the face sculpt on the disney store buzz is accurate to the first toy story movie and the collection edition is more accurate to toy story 3. In the first film Buzz had an overall more angular face design with a boxy head an uper lip curl and sharp thin eyebrows, but in the third film his hole face was remodeled to be more round and smooth. Each one is farley accurate depending on what movie you are thinking of.

Personally, I subtract points if it has any features that are NOT in the movie version, since that makes it less accurate. The TSC figure has way too many extra gimmicks that the movie version didn't have, plus it lacks two of the features that the movie DID have (karate chop action and auto-retracting helmet).
Meanwhile, special edition Buzz would be perfect if it didn't mix Spanish phrases with English phrases (Spanish is supposed to be a completely separate mode).
In my opinion the Disney Store exclusive Buzz is the most accurate since the only thing it's missing is the glow-in-the-dark feature. I wish they would just make a glow-in-the-dark version of that figure.

Not one that moves his head and responds when I talk and acts like he's choking to death when I open his helmet. TSC represents Buzz Lightyear as a living toy, but I want Toy Story toys that represent them as actual toys.

Inspired by this video, I came up with an idea for the ideal Buzz Lightyear toy.
From the Limited Edition Disney Store toy, it has the shade of green, whoosh thing, karate chop action, straight wings, glowing exhaust, and glow in the dark trim.
From the Toy Story Collection toy, it has the extra space when the rings are retracted, the head, the rubber mid section, lack of a name on his foot, laser sound and effect, duration and sync of the wingtip lights (off from the exhaust, but that's okay), the "Talk Back" toggled with the green chest bar, the Space Ranger and Toy Buzz mode (toggled on my fictional toy with the blue chest bar; the red chest bar just speaks the Spanish voice clips of the Limited Edition Disney Store toy), sensors for determining if he is "flying" and when he has landed, and wiggle room between the top of the head and the helmet.
I decided not to have the motor turn the head on mine.
Also, I don't plan to really make it; it can remain in the realm of fiction.

How many different variants of the Disney Store Buzz release? Our Buzz has all the features of the Buzz on the left minus the crummy face - our face is a much better expression.
They have a few like normal buzz, then limited edition glow in the dark buzz, Spanish mode buzz with different face. That’s all I know of. From what I have seen they are almost always all identical the limited edition did have some new awesome features though like karate chop action. They also had a karate chop action buzz
Honestly I think Thinkway should have made the non-Toy Story Collection with more articulation, like a G.I. Joe instead of 4 points with stiff legs.

area inside is completely flat and in the movie the wrist communicator is curved a little on the inside But I do think Disney store Buzz is curved slightly to much but I don’t think that’s very noticeable but Disney store Buzz has definitely has the more accurate communicator because of those reasons.
1 thing... in the movie the lights at the back are just stickers, it’s only on Buzz 2.0 that has blinking lights on back and glow in dark

The Toy Story Collection buzz is the most movie accurate one you can buy, however it's not good as a toy. It's not very durable and can get scratched easily. I'd say get that one but keep it in the box because its box is awesome and buy the disney store one for playing with.

Actually my grandpa bought me the Toy Story collection Buzz when I was around 8 years old and I played with him almost everyday!I still have him because he was my favourite toy and I can say that he is still in a good condition.The only thing that isn't in good shape are the stickers and that's mostly on me and the amount I played with him!In my opinion if a child is even a little careful and doesn't play with him too harshly he can be a good child toy!

@@todayigrewup I think proportions are fine except for the head and the helmet. Thanks to his big shoulders he looks much more fit than the TSC and from the side he is way more slim (the jetpack is way too thick on the TSC one and has an ugly gap which is not in the movie).
Wings on disney store one have a different spreading system, but at least they look better when closed and are fully horizontal when opened, not oblique

Cloud pattern logo is 2009, white logo is 2010 and the yellow Signature collection is from 2011 and then they brought yellow signature collection back in 2019.
The buzz toy story collection glows in the dark better if you put it close in the light for a little time. When you turns off the light the glow is awesome.

You have the original signature collection from Toy Stoy 2; when toy Story 3 came out they updated the paint to glow better (and other slight changes) and is the same as the Toy Story 4 release. When it originaly came out you could get it at for $29.99 and continued to increase $30 every time a movie came out. The best Disney Store Exclusive Buzz is the one that came with the Evil Emperor Zerg because you could sync the voice clips to recreate the “I am you’re father “ scene on the elevator. Does this new Buzz have the Tim Allen Voice clips? What is the quality difference in the voice box?

I’m amazed that Thinkway Toys hasn’t got with the program. They did a great job with the toy story collection line, and buzz’s wing span still looks incredible. But look..
Clearly there’s huge demand for a 100% movie accurate buzz and woody. It’s almost scandalous that the original film came out in 1995 and three movies later we still haven’t got them yet. It’s 2020 for Christ sake!
It’s simple economics really, if the demand is there, why not do it? Thinkway have the licences, not only are they hurting the consumer, they are hurting their own bank balance. They would be hugely successful if they were 100% accurate.
Makes me wonder if someone behind the scenes is deliberately making sure they can never be 100% accurate, in terms of face sculpts etc.
And if so. Why?
I’ll let you in on a secret by the way I 100% agree with you. I think the reason why they don’t release a real movie accurate toy is because if they did.... they wouldn’t be able to sell us so many toys. Think about it. How many versions of Woody and Buzz exist? If they just gave us “the one to have” they couldn’t sell us another Woody or Buzz again.... they make more money selling Disney store and other versions of the toys that we will always spend our money on them. It could be a strategy of theirs.
That definitely seems very likely now you mention it. It’s a real shame if that’s the case. I’m hoping that one day Hot toys will make woody and buzz and show Thinkway up in how it can be done. I’d easily pay £250 for a completely movie accurate buzz.
I know hot toys have the Toy story licence. If anyone could make a completely movie accurate woody and buzz it’s got to be Hot toys. Their attention to detail is sublime! Subscribed by the way! ;)
