Yeah, I have to sharpen both my saws. I thought I’d get that cut out of it, but that wood is super hard, took the edge off it pretty quickly. Thank you, I’ll keep trying. 😘😘
I’ve not used a lot of walnut, don’t get a lot of it here in Australia. I think it’s like a lot of woods, they get harder as they dry, this stuff just always seems hard. 😍😍
Hi, thank you. Yeah rounding it off probably would’ve helped, but my bandsaw doesn’t like cutting this wood. I could’ve used the chainsaw but I was trying to get it finished so I threw it on the lathe to get it done,
I see you have a bandsaw so how come you did not use a circle jig and make your blank round before you started turning it ? Very nice looking bowl. Great shine,
Yeah, I do have a bandsaw, but unfortunately I haven’t made a circle jig for it as yet. The other minor issue is that for some reason it doesn’t like cutting this wood. I have tried to use it previously on this wood and found that the grain makes the blade wonder off on its own angle. Or it jams the blade. I have even tried with a new blade for the same result. It’s a work in progress. 🤔🤔
I apply two coats of sanding sealer, then use an abrasive paste and the final coat is a product called Shellawax. It’s made by a company called Ubeaut Polishes.

I was going to say the effort looked similar to my action when turning Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), like concrete.

Beautiful bowl! That wood reminds me of walnut but is apparently somewhat harder. Although I've run into some weathered walnut that was hard as nails.

What oil/finish did you use? In the red container?
That’s sanding sealer. Shellac based, I mix it up and put it in that for ease of use.
