My wife Pam and I live in Charleston Tennessee and enjoy your channel very much. Our son lives in Wahiawa. We will visit in December and wanted to thank you for you help. Aloha from the Hillbillies. :-)
I love your show. I have been looking at your show since August. Your presentation of the food and the way you enjoyed the food. Four friends and myself it going to Hawaii today', i can't wait to taste the garlic chicken and the mac salad aloha.
Palisades Drive Inn!! I'm glad you tried the Garlic Ahi. Its my go to place on days I dont want to cook and truly a hidden gem. The steaks are good and reasonably priced. Aunty Kalei's shave ice is also excellent. They're soooo friendly. Go before school gets out!
Omg! I can't believe you came to my neighborhood! Love all the food you had and the ice cakes made my day! When I was a kid, we used to pop the ice cake out of the cup and turn it upside down so we could eat the cake by just biting it. No spoon needed. Lol. You brought back a lot of memories!
LOL! I thought we were the only ones who did that! Plus, the bottom is softer and sweeter because it settled, so as it melts, it helps sweeten the top which is now the bottom.
Many ice cake were lost doing the pop and flip back in my day. Then you had to run to the water fountain and rinse all the grass off without losing to much of it. If you were lucky you still had at least half, but when you do get the perfect flip it’s the best thing ever.
The food you both ate on the video looked so onolicious that my husband and I went to Palisades Drive Inn for dinner tonight. I ordered the garlic ahi - mochiko chicken combo w/rice and Mac salad and the hubby got garlic shrimp with fried noodles. Both were very onolicious!!! If I wasn't watching you guys last night, I wouldn't have noticed this hidden gem. Thank you!😃
Ice cakes! Used to cost 5-10cents but was in smaller cups. Flavor, always red. Turned it upside down or flipped it in cup so it would sit high and eat it that way… plus all the syrup would b concentrated at the bottom so if u flup it… sooo good!!! My ukulele teacher would make some for her students for after class snacks!!! ❤❤ We called it Pacific Palisades and my high school bf used to live at the top. I used to jog there all the time beautiful! I have to stop by mext time. That shave ice place is new to me! Mahalo!❤👍🏿😀
Hi guys 🌺 the hidden gem places are usually the best and serve awesome food l. Both the garlic chicken and the Ahi fish meals looked huge and really delicious. The shaved ice place looked really cool
Geeeezzzz I'm just down the street, wish I'd had known you guyz were here....They make and awesome Chicken Mushroom, Roast Pork, and Beef Choi-sum takeouts. Honestly, the owner "Leo" does and excellent job with all his dishes...his burgers are also pretty tasty...his French Fries are pretty good as well....My wife loves the Garlic Ahi...and the Portions are pretty much Local Style volume as I'm sure you noticed....Mahalo's for for awesome post, you guyz Rock!....
Believe my wife and I walked pass you guys at Ala Moana the other day. We had to do a double take and weren’t sure if it was you guys. We love your channel. Happy Friday.
You two are so darn adorable! When I was a kid we had a version of ice cakes. My favorite was limber de mantecado. So delicious! You guys took me way back! Simplicity at its best! Thank you for always sharing such wonderful videos. Sending you tons of kind energy!
Ice cakes!!! Yessah! Reminds me of my childhood days growing up in Makaha Valley back in the 70's. Me my cousins used to spend our summer at our grandma's house and her neighbor used to sell it for 5 cents a cup. Great memories! Thanks for sharing this video!!!
Oh my Akua! Those plates looked so onolicious. The chicken and tuna looked so good I could almost smell it through the TV. That shave ice stand WAS a hidden gem. Now everyone knows where it is and will be storming it for the ice cakes. I hope to try some soon. Keep up the great work my favorite Hawaiian couple! Mahalo for another great episode. 🤙🏽🌺🍧
They used to have cake noodles as an option and their mushroom chicken was really good too. Chicken Katsura is like a two people meal lol. The Chinese chicken salad is awesome too! That location was supposed to be a fire station but that didn’t happen….so I think it ended up a fast stop and over time evolved to diff businesses.
Aloha guys 🌺 love the plate lunches , and you did find a great hidden gem , have to remember when we come back , and another good place to get our shaved ice on , was really disappointed with Matsumoto’s 😟and always 👍👍👍 up ❤
I’ve never seen anyone do the scrape method of eating ice cake. I always used to pop it and flip it. My daughter, who is 20, says that she used to do the same. Thanks for sharing the great locations. I haven’t been up to Palisades in years. Going to have to go check out these places!
Both garlic dishes look tasty. Not too much but just enough. That ice cake brought back memories of Chang’s Poi Shop on Waialae Avenue from back in the day. Good job guys!
Hey! You made it to Palisades. We live in Palisades and our favorites are the Chicken Fried Noodles plate and the Chicken Wings Plate. I also like the BBQ Cheeseburger with fries. Haven’t made it to Aunty Kalei’s yet. I heard that she’ll also blend anything as a drink. Gotta try it 😊
Aaaahahaha those little moments of silent arguing and side eyes real quick was everything 🤣 had me cracking up I love it! Another great vid y’all 🤙🏼 #MalamaDaAina y’all 💝
My wife and I was on Oahu for an overnight trip and after seeing your video went to try this place out. She got the garlic chicken which had lots of garlic and we liked. I ordered the garlic ahi and that was kinda disappointing, no garlic on top and, flavorless and dry. Maybe it was just a bad day for the cook. Lol. Overall nice little place way up in the hills.🤙🏽
Got to get the fried chicken at Palisades. It’s the best plate they got. Plus 1 plate will feed 2 people. Katsu curry is also good, classic loco moco, and try the fried rice, get half chicken half spam. Teri Beef sandwich also good.
Talk story: Back in the late 50s, early 60s, we didn't have much money. So, grandma would take tin cans she'd saved up and clean, cool aid, and make us them. We all wanted popsicles, but she'd scold us that we hadn't saved up any sticks. Back then 2 cents and some sugar would make a good baker's dozen of them.
Palisades Inn: Try their roast pork and chinese chicken salad. Can’t forget about the cheeseburger and fries. Aunty Kalei’s: everything is refreshing but my 2 favorites are Haupia shaved ice and coffee shake
Felix you got it all wrong. Lol. You supposed to pull the ice cake out flip it over and eat it from the bottom. Ice cakes in Waianae cost $1 nowdays. Keep up the good work aloha🤙🏽
We still make the ice cups for the kids. You need to take the ice out of the cup and turn it upside down in the cup and eat it like that.. eat the bottom first.
@@AmandaFelixEats Wow, that Palisades Drive-In place has major One-Plus-One vibes! The Garlic Chicken and Garlic Ahi look identical! I wonder if there's a connection? Hmmmmmm...

@@spang9782 haha. Exactly my thoughts. When A &F had a spoon I thought, "oh no, I wonder if that spoon will break?...but less messy that way!"

Aloha Toby! Much mahaloz for watching us🤙🏻 I’m pretty sure it was us, I didn’t have make up 😂 lol
It's been there forever! The noodles are reminiscent of old school manapua truck style noodles, and the garlic chicken is bomb!😋
Right! Manapua truck noodles!

You finally found my neighborhood secret. You came at a good time, school still in session, not too crowded. I like the beef broccoli on cake noodle.
I'm glad you guys went there!!! Chicken Katsu Chili Dog Mix Plate is my go to.
Ooh we'll try that next time!

Hey! That’s my old neighborhood. Definitely didn’t have those eateries then. Everything looked so good. I’ll try going next time I go visit my mom.
Wow! Small island🤙🏻 Hope you can try it out😋
I like the location, especially hearing the bird calls in the background near the end.
Awesome food in nature 👍

It was hard to flip in that cup when full haha
Delish!! New follower!!
Mahalo!
The plate lunches look good but portions are so large. Do they have kids size plate lunches?
Yes! They have mini plates as well
I'm coming to celebrate my 60th birthday.
All drive inn’s got good food.. but leewards drive inn? 🔥🔥 mililani restaurant give them competition on the fried noodles though.
🙌
We still make the ice cups for the kids. You need to take the ice out of the cup and turn it upside down in the cup and eat it like that.. eat the bottom first.
👍
Looks mean 🤙🏾 check em out next time I’m back home
From windward side
For sure! 🤙
Was the Ahi moist?
It was more tender, not really moist
Ice cake = tell me you’re from hawaii without telling me you’re from hawaii 😂
😂👍
I haven't had either dish, but they both sounds "ono"!
Definitely ono! 🤙
That’s like goin Molokai. Drive 25mph and you’ve drove thru the whole town.
😅
I will try palisades drive in.
Definitely try them out if you're ever in the area!
Is there alot of houseflies around?
Chopped garlic looks & probably taste great. What is strange is the name. I know what a drive in movie theatre is, but not drive in reastaurant.
I had a Burrito 🌯 today... and a Corona 🍺..
Sounds like a good day! 👍
We arrive in Oahu in 130 days!!!!!😎
😬🙌
You gotta turn the ice cake over!
For sure! 👍

My dad says that sometimes but it’s more cuz he likes to be goofy lol
I deliver water to that Texaco.
