    NICE REVIEW SCOTT ~! We often believe that people from back then lived like cowboys and that the word pioneer meant "lived in primitive log cabin or shack"... the reality was, they lived almost exactly as we do now, just with less cell phone and internet technology.

    Thank you for your excellent video. I just found an envelope postmarked Wehrum, PA dated September 17, 1906, and I watched your video to find out about the town. The envelope was sent to an address in Cross Fork, PA. The return address on the envelope reads,” After 5 days return to Wehrum Supply Co. Wehrum, Indiana Co., Pa.

    Yes! Eliza furnace in vintondale, , you should check out the Mack road cemetery, Russian Orthodox i believe. It was very much over grown and unkempt til two or three years ago. Cornfield directly behind it. Its still pretty neat

    The jail is still there to its covered by weeds and bushes now but if you drive slow you can see it and there was a school and the foundation on the curve was the hotel i think and my dad went to elementary school in wehrum then when wehrum shit down my dad went to United high school and graduated in 1972 and i graduated from United in 2005 so i know exactlybwhere this is at i grew up around this area......i think i made a mistake moving to town

    • @ODDySEEy
      @ODDySEEy  4 роки тому

      Oh... that would be cool to go back just to see that jail. I did catch pictures of the foundation, but everything was so heavily "posted" and "no trespass" that I essentially just decided to cut that stuff out and not have people complain too loudly.

I was just perusing your main page and was certain I hadn't seen this and if I'm remembering correctly there are also a few more here. I will indicate them with a 🎯as I come across them. Thank you, Jason. I think I will be doing another sub-video for it because, believe it or not, I cut out over 7 minutes of actual history that took place due to the audio drop out. Maybe I should podcast the audio portion of these videos for situations like this. Where we get a nice "tour" with a "touch" on the history followed by an optional "audio" of the full researched history. That would keep videos in the 10 min mark and give the opportunity for others to listen to the 20-30 or even 40 minute original scripts.

    Great video Scott, I know Wehrum well, I grew up very nearby there. I don't know about the condition of the creek now near the Wehrum location but I do know that as of 2018 there are stocked trout in the creek to the east near a town called Nanty Glo.

    • @ODDySEEy
      @ODDySEEy  3 роки тому +1

      Stock trout are probably fine... and the water probably is not too poisoned, just the substrate. Kinda like when you drink water from a well, don't drink from the bottom and don't drink from the top... drink from the middle.

    Hey Scott, great video. We live about a mile from wehrum, and walk the Ghost town trail quite often. Its fascinating to get more of the history. Like you said we found your channel by accident, but now we are liked and subcribed. We have been to quite a few of the places you've spotlighted but never knew the full depth of what we were seeing. Thank you for filling in a few of the holes in history, and we look forward as you continue your ODDySEEy. Jesse and Yvonne L.

      Thank you @Sayan Chakraborty... WOW, 10k miles. India? If I get big enough I will most definitely be coming out that way. So many things all over the subcontinent that I want to see (and above it, and next to it, and all over the place). Anyway, keep watching as I attempt to continue uncovering and pulling all this remote sites back into each other. I am glad you enjoy it. In a lot of ways, my history in PA aligns with the history of your area when it comes to trains, tunnels, mining, and the ovens and dams.

    Another great video Scott! It's shame Blacklick Creek is so polluted. Perhaps one day they will be able to clean it up. The creeks in the Horseshoe Curve are are coming along, so there's hope for BC as well.

    • @ODDySEEy
      @ODDySEEy  4 роки тому +1

      Did the ones up by Horseshoe Curve look like that? And those mining pools just above the Glenn White Coke Ovens?

    • @sapperssgkelley
      @sapperssgkelley 4 роки тому

      @@ODDySEEy Yes, when I was young Glen White run was a mess. The ponds are the filter system for the mine drainage installed by the Altoona Water Authority. They built the settling ponds in the 90's I believe and they have worked wonderfully. Kittanning Run that emerges from the mountain draw at the Horseshoe Curve park will start getting attention in the near future. From what I was told by a AWA employee, the entrance to the Glen White mine still exists, but it is submerged under the water that flooded the mine. I never bothered to look for it because it doesn't sound all that impressive.
