my husband I first started dating his grandmother gave me a decorated felt tree pin. I've always cherished my little tree pin and wore it for many years. I've since turned it into an ornament because I began to worry about losing it. This week I make a similar style tree ornament and a second version for those who want a simpler design.

This week's ornament is a simple felt Christmas tree. I've decided to replicate a little felt tree pin that Rob's great grandmother made for me when we first started dating.

As a kid my aunt made all of our dance costumesand she would have tons of sequine and tiny beans and she would donate the left overs and sometimes fabric scraps to her daughter’s school and my schooland we’d make fabric/felt Christmas ornaments.
What fun memories those days were.

Those are wonderful memories and very sweet of your Aunt to donate her leftovers. Very smart of her too ;)

You are so darn sensitive about what others and what they make for you, but, it touches my heart that you are extra sensitive about cherishing what your hubby's grandmother made for you. I hope I will make this same ornament for one of our trees for Christmas!! Thank you for sharing and posting, Robin!!!

Thank you Vicki. I am pretty sensitive to others feelings and I do cherish anything handmade that is given to me. I know how much work goes into a handmade gift.

Thank you for this tutorial. You are a very good instructor and seem to cover all the bases. I have a hankering to do some hand stitching, so I've been watching a lot of these sorts of videos and this is one of my favorites. Love the story of the original pin/ornament.

Thank you so much. Somedays it’s nice to slow down and do a little hand sewing. Enjoy.

I am enjoying these ornament videos. Not doing any sewing now, need some downtime but thinking about a small set of homemade ornaments for each grandkid next year.

Michelle Swistak We tend to work so hard in the craft room at this time of the year that it’s nice to take a little time off. I like to clean and reorganize my craft room. As a bonus i usually find some fun things I’d forgotten about.

I have used those long beading needles for years with cross stitch. They work great. Your ornaments turned out cute. I might have to pick up some sequins for next year.

Kelley Mueller Kelley, is it hard to thread the beading needle with floss for cross stitch? I do like them for stitching felt. They’re so sharp and they just glide through the felt. I don’t use sequins very often but they are nice to have on hand. I want to start adding sequins to my art quilts.

@@rsislandcrafts Robin I usually use 1 strand of DC floss for beading, which makes it easier to tnread. I have finished Autumn Queen by Mirabiia. Her Majesty has a ton of beads. I might have a photo uploaded of her. I'll check tomorrow and email you a photo if I have it.

Thanks for the sequin/beading lesson, Robin. Sweet little tree. Love the way you honor your great-grandma. And great idea for using the felt tree skirt. Let that fabric work for you! haha 😉
