  • Installing my new Dakota Digital Dash in the 1971 Ford F100.Super cool as it gets most info from the diagnostic port that I gained with my LS Swap.
If you'd like to help out with parts and future builds you can donate at / thegofastgarage

Dude you’re lucky to have a truck like that. I was always drawn to a similar truck, my neighbor’s, he brought one from up north, in its original, surprisingly preserved form. The instrument cluster was noticeably still crispy and shiny, after almost 40 years. Please save that Ford OEM instrument panel. It’s probably worth a lot.

The truck just keeps getting better. 😎

It looks killer! I thought about getting that cluster, I really like it. It's funny you said you didn't want the circular AutoMeter gauges because it looks racy. I just bought, for very little, an F600 dash cluster for that very reason. I love the circular gauges and have always wanted them. Your tuck is ridiculously cool! I'm a die hard Ford guy, but I don't knock people for building the way they want. You have done a great job and I look forward to your future en devours as well.

I got the dash outta a '72 F-350 and put in my '71 250 highboy to get rid of the cheesy plastic cluster. The 1 ton cluster is a pressed steel faceplate. Unlike the F-600 it doesn't have the large hole for the vacuum gauge.

Fun fact. Factory computer doesn’t read Oil pressure at all. It goes straight to the gauge cluster in many gm applications. You will need to hook up the oil pressure sender they sent for it to work properly.

Nice job on the swap and entire truck, I have a 1967 short bed stepside with a 428ci I've had since 1974. I need this dash cluster in mine.

Building a 02 blazer Xtreme with LS swap, and a 71 f100 with 4.6 3v out 07 mustang gonna do crown Vic front and cut the rear like you did to use the four link and coils. Only reason im not putting LS in it is I got the motor and trans out of car that traded for. Traded a running driving 97 crown Vic for 07 wrecked gt mustang and 73 mustang that needed floors and was roller, that traded for blazer and LS engine trans.

I have a 1967 Dodge D200 Sweptline w/ a 5.3l na vortec/4L60e transplanted from an 02 Silverado. The factory gauge clusters look damn near like theyre comprised od the same components with a slightly different layout. I'D BE VERY HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO RUN A SPEEDOMETER THAT MATCHES ,WONDER IF DAKOTA DIGITAL SELLS INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS FOR RETROFITTING INTO STOCK HOUSING?? CHEERS FROM THE SWAMPLANDS OF THE US!

Very nice dash. It came out very clean. I love everything about the truck except for the engine but that's my opinion on gm. It's your truck and I think it's a very cool build sir . I can't wait to see how it does on the track. Keep up the good work bud 😎

Videos are good, like that you seem willing to try small format changes, for me the length of videos is about right. A suggestion would be to include part numbers of the more "complex" items in the description, not many channels seem to do that and I often find out useful information by going to websites but numbers and links would make it a bit easier. Waiting to see whats next.

Do you respond to questions? I just picked up a 71 F250, same color as yours, however, 2 degrees this side of Rat Rod! Has a 460 with a C6. Too low of Tranny for 4:10 gears. Tachs out at 55! I have an AOD to put in... Will that work???

  • @timcarroll3827

good job. i'm replacing instrument panel on my 72. can you point me to info on wire colors that align with various instrumentation (signal lights, etc.) ? i couldn't find a conversion harness, so i guess the only option is the cut the existing harness off and splice each wire individually like you've done.

Enjoying the videos. What did the LS engine come out of and did it already have the super charger on it? I'm thinking the same thing, but a Ford coyote with a super charger. Like the dash. Can you see the small tach well enough while driving? That is the only thing about the Dakota Dig dash for these bezels... the tach is small. Lastly, even if you didn't make a video of the bed shortening, think about doing a "how I did it" video where you walk everyone through the process. I'd like to see close ups of the welds, the way you measured it, kept it straight while you brought it all back together etc. Would still be a good video. Take care, Clay

    • @TheGoFastGarage
      @TheGoFastGarage  6 років тому +1

The engine came out of a 2001 2500HD 2wd, the supercharger was used off of a yukon 5.3 I picked up cheap. I changed the pulley and bolted it up. Thank you for the video idea, I may just do that one day.

haters out there don't want to understand. we have all heard that engines are an air pump. the more in the more out. the garbage heads on an ls are 50 years more advanced than the old sbf stuff. mid 20 gas mileage and 350 horsepower is twice the hp and millage of the original is what we have learned a lot over time. the ability to have a kid or a wife dive it is the whole reason to justify the build. seriously if you want to impress idiots at the car show keep the stocker. plan your passes and pretend the highest hp car on the road was 200hp corvette you can pass that with a damned 20k Kia car. the 4 cylinder in my toyota grandma camry makes 70 horsepower more than the 70's ford i own. you built a hell of a driver and others out there with it want there rides to be like that.
you don't buy a vehicle for its heart, you have to like how it looks and feels. i love my dentside but I take my 99 Silverado every day to work. it's smooth driving like butter, I start it and go. I can afford to have 3 kids and a hobby with a medichore job that pays average in an area of the country that thing 12 bucks an hour is livable. I look up to the stockers but they can't throw bacon stripes at 50mpg on the highway just cause you gave her the business. that's the world today. accept it or become a novelty.
