Hi Ben! You and I occasionally chat in Star Wars Fanatics. Just wanted to drop in and say Hello, as well as let you know that you are doing a fantastic job on your channel. I look forward to seeing your growth having fun while doing so! Great video!
Just to help out for newcomers who are wanting to get into the comics especially as alot of the original darkhorse can get very pricey even for the omnibus collections check out kindle especially if they are just wanting to read the stories. You can usually get the whole collection at the price of a hardcover. The books sometimes are on sale as well or every so often they can be free too.
Hey Brian. That's a great call. I shop on Amazon all the time and they always have great prices for SW comics, old and new. Comic lovers should def. check it out!
Good picks. Battle Surgeon books I never got around to, I’ve heard they are good. I just fell a little behind back then and didn’t get back to it. I think I’ll go back to it later this year, great reminder. Can’t recommend XWing books enough, Stackpole and Allston’s titles.
Thanks for your videos. I watched one of them 1 1/2 months ago when I decided to start reading Star Wars books and it helped me with finding the books that interrested me. I ended up staring with the new Thrawn trillogies and loved them. Now I've read 17 Star Wars books, more books then I've ever read in that amount of time before. Regarding canon and legends, from what I can tell alot of people working on Star Wars today aim to bring the best of legends into canon and are influenced by legends books, comics and games.
Thanks. This is the highest praise for my channel when someone tells me my videos helped them with their reading. Canon is def. influenced by Legends but I'm happy they exist as two separate entities. You can enjoy the original material in its purest form and move on to new ideas and characters in Canon.
Such a good video. Thrawn has to be one of my *favorite* characters of all time. I just started digging into book 2 of the new prequels. Timothy Zahn is a wonderful author and the audiobooks are exceptional!
@@Redbeardflynn I favor traditional reading but I have checked out the audio book classics like Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy and Original Thrawn Trilogy, Jedi Academy Trilogy. I gotta get into the new stuff as well. Listening to Master and Apprentice would be awesome.
Twilight Company looks great! Looking for my first SW novel . I love military fiction : Jack Higgins, Tom Clancy and some Webb; a little dense but still worth it in the end.
Some great recommendations, probably should watch the whole video ! I think I’m gonna be a legends guy. Takes me back to when I was a kid and my uncle John would tell me stories from the novels . Gonna be on the look out for Battle Front , medic , and rouge squadron . I didn’t know thy made Rouge squadron books before the recently video game . Very excited! Been waiting for this moment to get that internal urge to read some Star Wars! Thanks for your videos
Thanks for the kind words and my pleasure. The X-Wing books were developed as tie-in material for the mega popular Rogue Leader/Squadron games from the PC/N64/GC era. They are some of the greatest military fiction I ever read. I'm sure as Tom Clancy fan you'll love them!
@@starwarstimeline Hey, I’m a slow reader so it took me a while but I finished the Revan book. I enjoyed the book but the ending was a little disappointing. I’m thinking of reading the Bane trilogy next since I’ve only heard good things.
Thank you guys. Would love to see both of you in front of the camera disscussing your favorite SW things!! Right from the start you got excellent video production. Best of luck and maybe we can do something together along the way.))
@@starwarstimeline that is good feedback, thank you! We are trying to figure out that workflow with a 8-month old baby lol. We may just have a little dude sleeping on us in the vid 😄 We would love to take you up on that as time goes on!
Great video as always, Ben! I hadn't heard of the MedStar books before, so I'm very interested to read those down the road after I complete some more canon novels. I also had a question regarding the Old Republic era. I've heard a lot about that Revan book and also the three Darth Bane books, but do you have other recommendations of Old Republic books to get a full view of that era? I see there's quite a few books from that era on the Star Wars Wiki Legends timeline, but I'm not sure which would be the best to read. Also, any plans on getting on Twitter? Would love to keep up with you more there :D Thanks for the video!
Master Greatsorm, hello there! LoL, thanks so much for the kind words man. Means a lot. You totally gotta read the MedStar books. Those are serious sci-fi novels very few popular media tie-ins can measure up to. In terms of Old Republic, if you haven't read Darth Bane I would start there. It's thousands of years after Revan but one of the most kick-ass trilogies in the franchise.
Oh, it's a series I intend to continue for sure. I might record another one this week but I want to come back to book reviews as well. I haven't done that for a bit.
Hi Joseph. If you enjoy that "Old Republic" era I highly recommend Revan (which takes place 3,000 years before the events of Bane Trilogy). Follow it up with other Old Republic titles Decieved, Fatal Alliance, and Annihilation. If you would rather move up in the timeline closer to the events of the Prequel Trilogy I would say read Darth Plagueis (if you want political espionage and more on Palpatine's master) followed by Cloack of Deception, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, and Lockdown.
If you're not going to enjoy playing a video game, skip it. However, keep in mind the KOTOR game is where Revan's main story takes place. The key difference is the game's narrative is focused on the world and characters around Revan while the novel puts him in the forefront of the story. Both are great experiences imo.
I don't believe so. I think it would get very convoluted since a lot of books takes place at the same time. Your best bet is to use the main 9 films as your time stamps. Let's say you read a Canon novel taking place 6 years after Episode VI. Then you go back to a Legends book that's 1 year after Episode VI. Immediately the films help you get your timeline right and not to convuse both books. Hope it helps.
@@starwarstimeline thanks man. I’m Trying do something super ambitious and read every single comic and book in the legends timeline but I also wanted to combine some books/not comics, from cannon if that could even work. My main thought for that would be to instead of having the legends book series jedi apprentice be in my timeline I would instead replace it with the newer book from canon “master and apprentice.” Or if it’s possible I could maybe do both because I checked the years of each from when they took place and the legends book series is from 46 bby I think to 40 bby and then the master and aprentice book takes place in 39 bby. I don’t know if these books would contradict each other but yeah what are your thoughts on that? Sorry for the long response. Also both are about Qui gon and kenobi. I know you know that about master and apprentice but i don’t know if you knew that about the other book and it’s series.
@@starwarstimeline also love your content, it gets me so hype for new books. Hey did you ever finish the new thrawn trilogy ? I was trying to find a video where you covered the second two and I couldn’t find it. I was wondering if you are ever going to do a review video over those?
I'm in the middle of the second Thrawn book (first trilogy). Rest assured I'll review every Thrawn book. It just took a while to get there. As far as your reading project goes. I can tell you this is beyond daunting. I've been reading Legends for over 20 years and there's SO MUCH lore, things begin to get mixed in your mind easily. If you top it off incorporating Canon books you'll be more frustrated than having a good time. I suggest pick and choose. Read a trilogy from Legends. Shift gears and check out a Canon book. That's what I do.
Thanks for making more videos on these recommendations! Tomorrow we should be doing a live stream around 12-4 PM eastern time, if you want to join just join the chat then I’ll message you the link :)
