i've noticed that most neon art supplies tend to be very translucent, so maybe its something in the pigment they use that can't make it completely opaque
I think they are translucent because what makes the colours so vibrant is the white background beaming through the pigment. If you were to use these on black paper, I bet it would be a very different story.
Right! Same here! They all seem very translucent. And I think everyone in this thread it right! I feel like black paper might not have the same effect because the neon color use the white paper to help reflect the vibrancy! Especially if you use a Blacklight or UV!
The thing that stands out about your art is how it's anatomically correct even with surrealism. Also, the color blending isn't bland and too contrasted. I am trying to understand why your art is so good, it's like no other out there, there's comic and realism (which is my favorite) but this is the first time surrealism actually caught my eye. It is one of a kind.
This comment got me in my feelings fr! Thank you so much! I have always wanted my work to be super unique but also recognizable. I know I’m not doing anything that’s super out of this world (yet) but I am so grateful for this point of view! 🙏🏾 I think the real key for everyone to make something unique is to draw what’s in their minds and not to rely too much on reference or detail 😊
@@BlackBeanCMS you are welcome 😊thank you for the last tip, now I understand more how to have a unique art style. I hope one day I'll be able to visit your art in a museum somewhere! Gahh! It's just so cool!
It would be so cool to see a show of just these kinds of drawings under black lights. The way you've done the scratching at it looks iridescent. Like a pretty oyster shell. Love this
Omg! Oyster shell!! I never looked at it like that before! Such an awesome idea! I would definitely do a show with a few neon drawings added!! Thank you!!!

Oh my gosh! That would be so cool!!!! Reminds me of the time I bought a secret invisible ink pen with a light at the schoolastic book fair with my last $3. I would write and draw so much weird stuff until the invisible ink ran out 2 days later😭
We are actually making oil pastel drawings in art class, and I recommended your channel to my teacher to show how to use them. He showed one of your vids when you drew an eye (which everyone thoroughly enjoyed) and then the scratchy scratches came on and blasted on the speakers, I haven’t laughed that hard in a while. 😂😂

Thank you for watching! And you should definitely give them a try! I haven’t tested them on black paper just yet but unfortunately I don’t think it’ll have the same effect 😭
@@BlackBeanCMS thought this said “tasted” instead of “tested” and thought that was kind of odd. Hah 😅 LOVE your videos and u freaking crack me up! NOICE hair!!! U so talented! Thank you for entertaining us all!!
I found myself this very evening doing the "scratchy-scratch" voice as I picked up bits of scratchy plastic from my carpet, and lo, you upload! A very happy and successful new year to you, you absolutely juicy king and queen!
I’ve had the neon pastels for the longest and never thought to use a uv light. You got me wanting to try something. We can always count on you to do something cool with oil pastels. You really have shown oil pastels in a new light as a medium for artist.
Same here! I’ve had these pastels for so much and then it hit me! Neon glows! So glad I tested the UV light out! You’re gonna love them more once you see it under the light I promise 😊
I'm so obsessed with UV and glow in the dark (fluorescent vs luminescent) pigments!! I have bought tons of different kinds (my fav source is technoglow-previously glow inc.). The thing I learned from making my own paints with them is that the UV reactive fluorescent pigments are translucent. Tbh MOST art supplies pigments aren't opaque so they very very often get white mixed in. If you do that with UV reactive colors it dulls them so it's still always better to use them over a white base. I just painted some dark purple shoes w/ neon pink detail so it was annoying to paint everything twice but you gotta if you want the brightest results. (OH also you can get UV reactive white too its the best) It's similar how its annoying to use yellow in basically ANY medium. It really is best to just paint white first because even 5000 layers of the yellow alone wont be as effective aaagh. Additonally, the glow-in-dark pigments are practically transparent! But thats fun too cos you can paint SECRET stuff thats usually invisible. Not all neon pigments glow in the dark BUT all glow in the dark pigments are uv reactive so those are super fun to play with too. This comment is too long but this is one of my special interests oops
You should do daily 5 or 10..... or 30 minutes "draw with me while I talk and let my creativity inspire you" videos or video series. I don't think you have something REALLY special in you that inspires many people. But you do!! And many of us need more of you. Because you are special. I really hope you consider this idea!!
Another banger. You take subpar materials that you aren't vibin with and then create such cool stuff inspite of the difficult mediums. That glow is sickkkk
Give me a hug, you're so cute ... I've missed you! 😄❤️ What a pleasant surprise to see the neon glow in the blacklight ... looking forward to seeing more!💥
Many people have led and if you put it on the purple setting it works just like a black light. I think these are fantastic with how you used them, it gives another layer and surprise to your work.
I initially found this channel thru shorts and omg im so glad I have. Oil pastels were one of my favorite mediums when i was younger and anytime o see any the content on here I get so re-inspired to pick them back up again and i appreciate that so much
I love using those neon pastels ! But I never use them by their own, it just a little more of fun colors in addition to the normal set! So good to have a new video and happy new year!
this is my first video of yours! your art is so captivating and your personality is so magnetic that it's an instant sub for me. looking forward to more of your work my man. keep it up 🔥
Make a print of that while the glowing is happening in the dark, yes. I love you and your videos, you inspire a lot of my art, and to what? to be creative, thank youuu~
Maybe try doing a drawing in reverse? Lay down your regular oil pastels first, then put the neon on top! Then u can control the glow where u want it! When I face paint, I lay down regular colors and top them with the neon so everything pops under the black light
There's a really nice type of glow in the dark ink that works pretty well with glass dip pens and fountain pens or just with brushes (it's a little bit granular, but not enough to clog the pens) that you can easily use to add glow details to pretty much any work. You should try that! It's Herbin Phosphorescent Ink.
I use fluorescent paints and they’re also transparent. I do the reverse and put normal colors down and then layer the fluorescents on top of them where needed
I like how the piece turned out. You may try to do a "3-D effect" piece with the neon cyan and neon red. Also, you may try creating with the neon colors in the dark under the black light. It could allow you to see the colors in a truer form in real time. Anyway, keep it up!
I think you should try them out on black paper. And get that same pop with lighter color glowing in the dark. As for blending, you should try a solid bock coloring, the same way a neon sign would be made with solid color stacked against each other. And maybe use a white pencil for sketching the outline, and it will not be as noticable on final product.
This is the kind of art I love to see on display at museums. This is very gallery worthy.

I wonder how it would look on black paper. My theory is that they have to be as translucent to show a bit of the white under so they seem more bright?
I do too. Prismacolor has Neon pencils that don't feel as pigmented as their other ones, which sucks because I love neon colors.
like glowsticks
I think they are translucent because what makes the colours so vibrant is the white background beaming through the pigment. If you were to use these on black paper, I bet it would be a very different story.
