I really wanted them to include a "Planet X" in the newest update. It'd be pretty cool if a new planet popped in the solar system every 10-20 Kerbin years.
I'm all for new places to explore, but Planet X is... erm... well, once upon a time, calculations according to Newtonian physics showed Mercury's orbit was wrong, so astronomers concluded there must be another planet inside Mercury's orbit, changing its orbit with its gravity. Then Einstein's theories came along and Mercury's orbit was found to fit relativistic gravity just fine; no need for another planet. Now, Neptune's orbit is a little bit wrong according to current scientific understanding of gravity, so astronomers conclude there must be another planet... etc. However, whenever anyone comes along saying "the gravitational calculations are wrong, here's a formula which works," basically all scientists say, "No, you're wrong, you're crazy, not listening to you ever again." To be fair, a lot of crazies have taken an interest in all this, but this is science's greatest weakness; perhaps its greatest folly: Whenever crazies take an interest in something, basically anyone working on similar lines is just shut out.
The Galaxy in the background of space also looks like it had a visual update! Also, when Matt landed on Duna, there were some cool dust clouds from the rocket engines!
I tried following your build at the beginning and managed to figure it out and I'm now trying to do the same flight as you did and I must say, THANK YOU, this video is really helping me to get better!!
Matt, I think you're great, and I think the self-deprecating tone you naturally adopt is lovely (I hope if I ever had a gazillion-liked youtube channel such as yours, I'd be just as self-deprecating). IBut also like the way you slip into Dame Edna territory with : "I'm just a humble person who likes playing KSP from time to time and uploading it for you, my adoring fans." We demand a pic of you in Dame Edna glasses! ;)

That purple marker is placed at coordinate 0,0,0 of the scene, it allows you to see a lot of tricks KSP uses to make sure calculations are accurate as possible
I recently landed on the Mun for the 1st time (Actually the 2nd but we don’t talk about the 1st flight), rushed to get all the science for career mode, and then I left the Mun in a hurry cause I was so giddy: When I got back to Kerbin I was so happy until I looked at my contract list and it said “bring a Mun Stone back from the Mun” and “Plant a Flag on the Mun,”... I’m goin back later today. Edit: To make it hurt worse, my successful flight was a gravity turn directly onto the Mun’s surface lol. I don’t know if I have the Delta V to get back from a normal flight.
Scatterer is working, check the forum thread for the update. Also, Planet Shine is responsible for the purple square sprite, might want to get rid of that. If you crank up the ambient lighting you will be able to see better in the dark, and it won't be affecting the brightness of daytime.
And out the left side of the plane you can see the mighty arctic kraken, gleefully dismembering yet another spacecraft and crew. The circle of life on Kerbin continues...
hey Matt, @19:35 the answer you seek is known as a few things, Scientifically speaking waves of sand is called "Saltation " few known that if listen as it moves, it humms.. Bam... I got your back on this sand info bro..
Those aerospikes jointly hold second place for the most efficient conventional engines in a vacuum. The Terrier is equal, Poodle holds first place, and Rhinos 4th. If you don't want to use nuclear or ion engines, you pretty-much have to use one of those 4 because they're the only good vacuum engines. If you have Making History you get the Cheetah and Wolfhound too, but that's still not many engines. There are far more low-atmosphere launch engines.
You may have graphical glitches, but at least your altimeter works! I had to install Mechjeb as a workaround! On your dark UA-cam compression problems: I work for a TV station and work with dark shots on the regular. Here's my process: Before exporting, create an adjustment layer; apply 3-way color corrector (whichever one you want; Sony Vegas should have one built in, if not, Lumetri, Colorista, and Magic Bullet Looks are all great options!). Raise your highlights until the brightest color hits where you want it, crush your shadows until the darkest parts hit where you want (in most shots, you usually want near white and near black, but use your judgment). Finally, raise your midtones until you have a well-exposed shot. Raise the exposure by around 1 F-stop if necessary. This is pretty easy and will take all of a minute to do on a single adjustment layer. Always enjoy your videos, good Sir!
It would be really nice to see your Minmus Base and Casino with all the improved textures, if all the parts exist in the new version could you bring the vessel file over from the previous version's save file? I don't know how that all works, I guess you'd need all the required modpacks to work properly though. Enjoying the video, I don't mind the dark side landings. They give a bit of tension to the landings when we can't see what's happening! :)
awesome video, thanks!! hey BTW, I think it's Astronomer's mod that's breaking your clouds. SVE/EVE works fine now! Still no scatterrer, but KER is out, as is a working mechjeb! and most of all - All'Y'All mod is something I wanted to always tell you about!! It adds a right click action to things like solar and ladders to open all with 1 click! :)
I had the same problem with that purple rectangle. Fixed it by uninstalling PlanetShine. Also, the pixelated clouds error could be solved by reinstalling EVE and SVE (or Astronomer's visual pack)
He, matt next time you want to fine-tune the manoeuvre node try opening it in manover node readout, where you can fine-tune manoeuvres in any direction without needing to drag the map slider. It is essentially a precise node mod in stock KSP.

Another great video that makes you think the game is easy to master... On another note, you may want to look at the maneuver node shortcut on the lower left screen (it's stock), you get all the direction on a panel to help you plan your maneuver. It's only accessible when you select a maneuver node (eg : 7:18) , and is not the default selected pannel and lastly, at 21:10, you said it was possible to land on ike using only an EVA pack, can you record your own Gravity film on ike then the rescue mission?

Well, am using the poodle for that. Really four of them. The lander is much bigger than the one you sorted out. Only question is will it land on Moho and get off again. This am not sure on. I did think about designing a SSTO but decided against it. I should make a backup of it and see if I can or not. delta-v may not be my friend on this. So, I may have to change out the engines. Just really wished I had six drills on this. I guess I could have build a mini version of mine and I did. It just had allot of problems. Just wished I remembered what that was other than design flaws. Well, I could waffle on all day mate. I need to get back to work I think.
It took me a day on this game just to figure out how to build and fly a ship into space, im still working out on how to orbit (I really want to put in my first satellite) and maybe eventually I'll land on on the mun... Lol I'm not using tutorials soo... Wish me luck?
Honestly Matt I think the only one who might be better at KSP than you would be Scott Manely, but thta would be due to the fact of his educational and work background, as well as the fact he has played longer. Your really amazing though.
Would be interesting to see one launch with 4 different individual ships, each with their own kerbal to control flight to 4 different planets at the same time
Well, I have a craft already like that one but it's just a bit bigger. Since I had to rebuild my save its on the Mun jumping from GEO to GEO. It was designed to go everywhere but Eve and Kerbin. I use a Soyuz or Apollo style craft to pickup on the science and swap out the crew. Then it's taken to the KSS for processing. While there I swap out the crew, drop off the new science, pickup what the lab doesn't want and take it back to Kerbin. My KSS is orbiting between the Mun and Minmus. I figure that's a good place in time to build craft there and launch it outward. I really would like it to be just beyond Minmus as it would vastly reduce the delta-v. Then I would leave all crew there and send up a progress or alike ship to carry the science the lab doesn't want back to Kerbin. Given I can't get on until the mods are sorted out and I didn't make a backup prior to that. I don't think I will finish before the next release. Sad but I should have as I did for the other releases. Just got busy with work and didn't.
