@@stevejamieson8468 That's a fair point. I didn't think of that, tbh. Backlund should never have gotten it when he did, Superstar had a lot left in the tank.
The great Bob Caudle, #1 Paul Jones what Super Graham would give today to beback in that body! As always NWA back then the greatest time in pro wrestling!
SBG laying it on thick as only he can. Also, notice how Paul Jones always verbally backed himself into a corner and had a tough time getting out of it, LOL. Great stuff. Get well, SBG!
This was superstar later on in his career check him out in late 70's early 80'S This man was 💯on his promos and had muscles that were world class Hogan totally ripped his gimmick off💯
Well ya know something mean Gean. No one accuses me of ripping off anything. What ya gonna do when the largest arms in the world 🌍💪 the patriots runs wild on you.
The Superstar... what WWWF could have achieved if they had strapped a rocket to him and left the belt where it was instead of trying to push Bob Backlund
@@jayjayrada What you both forget is that while Backlund couldn't immediately match Sammartino's numbers and took a while to catch on, he WAS over and was popular for YEARS which is why Vince Sr. Never took the belt off him! If Bob didn't draw, no way would he have been champ that long! The Backlund of late '83 was a total stranger and that's when he started to lose his fans to someone like Superfly Snuka!
Backlund was a GREAT heel. I loved his character. Part of the reason that heel character worked so many years after his championship run was because he was always such a goober, goody-goody, square babyface. Total opposite. His unhinged, sanctimonious promos were by far the best of his career. Vince Sr. (and Toots Mondt for a while) almost always had “ethnic babyface” champions (Bruno, Pedro Morales, Argentina Rocca, Tatsumi Fujinami, Gino Brito etc) due to the cultural and racial diversity of New York City and the fact that Capitol Wrestling Corp, WWWF, WWF all revolved around the big monthly show at Madison Square Garden. Vince Sr. wanted to stay with a babyface WWF champion after Bruno’s second run-hence Backlund. Bob was a great worker, in absurd physical condition (I think that at 73 he still does the Harvard Step Test daily) and eventually got over. He was just… Dull. It really is unfortunate that VJM decided to have The Superstar be only a transitional champion. Graham would have continued being over as a heel then would’ve become a HUGE star once he went babyface. VJM would’ve had the babyface champion he wanted, sold out all over the territory, moved incredible amounts of whatever merchandise they had around’79-‘80 or so… He was just too impatient. 2:49
@@andrewkarp5067 I agree with much of what you said but I honestly think if they had switched Graham "Babyface" his star would have burned brightly... for a while. I've seen his matches and without rulebreaking, Graham had that boring "walk around and punch" style! Bob got over because his matches were exciting! It was "Opie Taylor v. The Dastardly Villains" and the outcome was always in doubt-- for those fans who forgot how strong Backlund actually was! Bob didn't have to yell and scream, we knew he was a tough dude! Hogan had Graham's "look", he could cut promos like a heel but aim them AT the heels and unlike Graham, he was fast and a better wrestler, which was perfect for the Glitzy 80s!
It's a shame the Mid Atlantic territory didn't get Superstar Billy Graham from his prime. This video also made me think if the managers from the WWF would have gotten over in other territories. The Grand Wizard, no. Freddie Blasie, maybe. Lou Albano, probably.
This stupid king fu gimmick sent him being from a mega star in WWWF to a NWA mid carder. His stint in Florida didn’t help either. He was never the best worker, but the “Superstar” persona alone and being a former world champ could have elevated him to much bigger things post WWWF.
When he "turned" on Kevin Sullivan here in Florida, it put him back at "top tier status." (If only for a moment) Whoever wrote that script should have got an award! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
those were legit 22.5 inch pythons! annoyingly though, his belt says Japan Karate on one side and the another says Superstar Billy Graham, nothing about Kung Fu…. but that’s rasslin
Superstar still has the mic. skills here. I wish he, however, had stayed clean shaven and shaved his blonde hair. Paul Jones, however? That had to be the WORST promo I've EVER seen on his part.
@@jayceegenocide4402 listen Retard his first stop was wwwf in the karate gimmick, but his muscles were mostly melted away, much less steriods. Then when he went to the NWA he started to pump up again with the juice and got most of his body back. That's the point.
A legend has left us. May he rest in peace.
Let’s keep The Superstar in our prayers .🙏🙏🙏
RIP Superstar Billy Graham🥺😥
Jus seen it RIP
Billy Graham was jacked!!!! Hulk Hogan ripped him off
So did Ventura, Savage, Steiner, and a bunch of others.
And Mr. America ripped off Hulk, so what?
At least Hogan didn't rip off his stupid karate guy gimmick. 😂
Actually no he ripped off Hulk Hogan. Billy Graham didn't start doing these promos until Hulk Hogan was doing them in 82.

A master behind the mic. The man with the biggest arms.
In an interview, Graham said he hated the kung fu gimmick and that it was the low point of his career.
it was his idea lol
Hard to think of someone less in need of a manager than Superstar Graham. 10X the talker Paul Jones was.
I met the superstar when I was a kid he was very cool. I think Chael Sonnen is graduate of the Superstars school of self promotion.
He had the Grand Wizard back in his WWWF days
@@stevejamieson8468 They had a real chemistry too. But I still wouldn't say he "needed" The Wizard

Superstar BG was a larger than life kind of guy. Great character and personality.
the strongest promos in the history of wrestling nobody can do a promo like the Superstar
He was better as wwf world champion in the 70's!

He calls Magnum TA...Magnum PA..😂😂😂
R.I.P. Superstar Billy Graham.😢
He and Ric Flair should of had a match for NWA World Title.

The Super Star Billy Graham doesn't need a manager .
No, but the Grand Wizzard was the perfect manager for him nevertheless. Those two were great together.
