    Base coating in a minute with Roman, grab a fat ass brush and be fearless 😆. Throw in a wet blend or two while you're there.
    The pencil highlights were a revelation! So fast and neat.

This approach is very liberating and works great for quick gaming projects and fun in painting. For display pieces, competitive ones there are other technqiues and more time invested in my processes. I do not care about gimmicks. They often confuse more than they help when it comes to painting!

      Thank you for the feedback. There is a difference in putting make up to a miniature in a careful way or in painting liberated to a vision that you want to put on a figure. I will have some 15 Minutes for you soonish! Already editing.
      Many asked me to add some more explanations.
      Well, I do have some explanations for the moment or clarification you can say:
      As I am almost blind and in tunnel vision when doing such a speedpaint I did not yet think about in depth explanation. I want to keep the edit value short and simple for me and it is still several hours though. Also the in depth explanation is part of my hands-on masterclass workshop about Speedpainting and I am unsure if I want to give this didactic knowledge and process away for free. Do not get me wrong, I am just trying to be transparent. Maybe I will create a masterclass of it too in video format with a higher production value and explain it all. Then I might ask money for it, maybe in a format on a video on demand. Well, hope this is understandable.
      For now I'd like to keep these as "learning from observing" lessons. There is actual a reason for it too from a didactic point and from my experience. When a painter just sees something and has to make a comitment to watch for a longer time period he is willing to learn. The painter opens up to see and combine and connect what he sees with his own knowledge. It is a different content learning, it goes deeper if I would just brabble what I do there. An unusual path on UA-cam it seems.

    I have one small question about the pencil, how does it hold when handling a gaming mini? I wouldn't have thought that it stays on the mini without fading after being handled a bunch of times

    • @ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART
      @ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART  2 місяці тому

      Well, thank you for your kind words. I am not watching lots of painting videos on UA-cam as I do not find the time for it, but I think or believe UA-cam in terms of miniature painting is a sort of a bubble where creatores inspire eachother in circles. All the time. With not many true inventing things. Everybody is running behind the creation of the next week's video content and the best thumbnail. Painting in such an environement can only lead to a certain degree of development as the creation of content is priority.
      Being focused on painting instead of creation or watching makes a difference. I am happy and glad that you enjoy this video as it seems to be so different. It is a pure painting approach. Not putting make up to a miniature with "rules of technique" that others put on me. This is just joy and bang! Glad you like it and thanks for your comment!
      Pencil: You should be fine when putting varnish on top of your model as yes, it might rub off if you touch it like you would do with some dice ...

  • @mattbrown5234
    @mattbrown5234 2 місяці тому +1

    Three things really stuck out to me watching this:
    1. I had serious anxiety during the first 10 minutes of wet blending, I would have been terrified about a paint layer tearing if I kept messing with the paint without letting it fully dry. You put like four layers/colors on some areas before drying the model. Is it just experience that tells you the paint is still workable?
    2. Using the pencil for dark metallics was really interesting. It looks like it was a Farber Castel 4B- is there anything special about that type of graphite, or was that just the pencil you had on hand?
    3. Painting sure goes a lot quicker when you know exactly where the highlights need to go. I do a lot of painting the same area over and over because I can’t visualize that.
    Great video, thank you!

    • @ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART
      @ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART  2 місяці тому +2

      Lovely to hear these 3 points of yours.
      1. Yes, just experience. Due painting professional since two decades I - in the meantime - do not have to think about consistency of paint, volumes, light placement or which technique to use anymore. Sounds a bit conceited, but is in no way meant as it. It is just fact and truth that throung more and more painting you gain painting muscles and understand complex things, also teaching a lot helps to manifest the own knowledge too.
      2. Just the pencil I had on hand. Harder ones might work better for finer lines, softer ones have more abrasion ... I would not think too complicated about it.
      3. Painting will teach you. Do more of it and be patience. Things fall in their places.
      You are welcome!
      Glad you enjoy it!

    It looks like you're putting paint on really thick at the start so that it stays workable for a long time. Is there anything specific that you are doing to ensure that you don't clog detail when applying paint like this? I feel like if I attempted this, I'd end up with a mini that looks like that One Thick Coat meme.

    • @ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART
      @ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART  2 місяці тому

      Color needs to be creamy with a bit of water inside, like yoghurt. Sometimes I have to much paint where I do not want it, but when I see it I remove it. I will lose detail with this approach. About 0.8 %. I do not care for gaming models. But yes: A larger pool of wet paint takes longer to dry than a small puddle. I am planning to maybe create a future higher edit valued video workshop on this topic. It is all based on my hands-on speedpainting masterclass that I teach ...

    This is my first time seeing one of your videos and I’m impressed with the result. But as mentioned in another comment, I would have liked some voice overs. I’m assuming you started out wet blending, but I would love to know if you were using a retarder, water or some other agent. Then it looked like it moved into glazing. As I say having not watched any of your previous videos I don’t know if this is something you’ve covered before but I was lacking some context here.
    So another 30min or 15 min video really outlining those steps would be great!

      @@thedarkmillennium3788 thanks a lot. Glad you enjoy the workflow and end result. And yes, there will be future explanations. This is already a hands-on masterclass that I teach, but I will create a high value edit of the masterclass as a video on demand. Thank you for understanding this.
      Welcome to the channel. I hope you enjoy many more videos :)

    That looks amazing, but I am left wondering how I can spend 10 hours painting a model and it doesn't even turn out half as good... Thanks for sharing!!

      Thank you! I do not believe all miniature painting techniques out there are benefical for the miniature painter. My approach is more connected to traditional painting and has less technical rules that I got to follow. I hope these videos inspire you to give this a try. There are more to come!

    Great video! Your paints seem to take a while to dry, did you use a drying retarder or is it just the particular paint you´re using?

      No gimmicks. No drying retarder, no specific paint. The first layer was a Ak-Interactive Brown something. Nothing special. A large pool of wet surface dries slower than a small one. Go with a yoghurt-like consistency.

      @@harry-John785 no, did not. I filmed somw footage but realised I can explain it better and in depth in an eBook. Which is still work in progress :)

      Thanks, glad you like it. This is actually a Mindwork Studio Brush, Size 2. But could be done with any other brush ...
