Cities are the future of humanity. The only viable way to accommodate - and sustain - a global population trending towards ten billion by the turn of the century. As we race, inevitably, towards a more urbanized future there is much to learn from the present and the past; from the 'HOW, the NOW and the WOW' of building the greatest cities in the world.
In this episode, we explore the iconic city of New York, tracing its journey from humble beginnings to global prominence. Through a blend of history and modern-day insight, we unravel the story of how New York became a symbol of urban achievement, offering lessons and inspiration for cities worldwide.

At 8:30 it Says that population was 340,000 in 1790. That was the state of New York. I don't know where the 3.4 million population in 1997 comes from. New York City's population in 1997 was about 7.9 million. The population of the 13 colonies in 1790 would have been about 3.4 million. They need to check their facts closely haha

Yep.. The facts are skewed. The narrator stated misleading facts correctly: "A little over a century later there were 3.4 million people.". There are several at fault for the skewed verbal facts and the graphic typo.
The state population was 340,000 in 1790. In 1897 the total population of all urban areas in the state of New York was roughly 3.4 million. How they managed to screw up so much with this one statement is beyond me. There was at a minimum five sets of eyes and ears whom should have caught these glarring errors. This documentary first aired on network television before being licensed for streaming. Yet Wildbear Entertainment failed, at the very least to correct the incorrect graphic before licensing the content out.

Well said. Three houses within 100 yards here. 15 minute drive to the nearest city (of 55 000 people). On my way to work, I usually see nobody for the first two miles. Maybe some kids walking to the bus stop. A couple of cars in the next 10 minutes. Then maybe a 20 sec. wait at the traffic light. 😅 No street lights here either, thank God. Just horses walking past the house. Life is good.

After the 2019 rent was quoted, I moved on. The city is now a hellhole where if you have the mean$, you see it through the rearview mirror.

21:08 agreed....the Central Park Conservancy does a great job with the park!!!! Its simple ...if you want to make something great, use private money. If you want to destroy it, let govt manage it. Especially liberal govt!
