I love this guy's attitude "you're a musician, feel free to play your guitar"
If i want to learn a tool song, this is the ONLY place to go! Thanks as always! Great stuff
I like the speed you go through it. How to play, for people who already play.
Dude you have the fucking best tone ever! How the hell do you pull it off??!!
Jason Brand More mid. Lots of folks, especially younger players scoop the mids out. Experiment! Turn your distortion down and add some mid. Remember that the drama and dynamics are what you are creating, the amp knobs don't need to be set extreme.
Holy shit i didn't know Dave England was a Tool fan. Let alone know how to play guitar
random.. But I'm watching this with the auto generated subtitles on and at certain points the guitar literally talks. it gives it words. kinda cool especially the end when you are jamming and the guitar is going yeah yeah yeah
I'm pretty sure the guitar is actually saying yeah yeah yeah
can't believe you don't have a million subscribers man, awesome as always
Awesome. Thanks! Saw Tool live a couple of nights ago. It was great. And they played this song...highest point of crowd energy the whole night.
Learn to swim.
See you down in Arizona Bay.
-in memory of Bill Hicks
You definitely explain Adam jones's guitar playing better than anyone of ever seen. Big fan of yours. Thanks so much for all your work!! 🎸🔊🤘🏻
I had noticed an increase in the new year, thats fantastic! thanks alot man, there are no more passionate fans out there than tool fans, and you're making a whole lot of us happy :) thank you!
Good lesson. Very thorough in your articulation, describing what you're doing, what can be done etc. Thanks for sharing.
your lessons are amazing dude, thanx once again, really enjoying playing along to some of my favorite songs ever! aenema is the pinnacle of tool and all their stuff is amazing, i think that album was truly flawless from start to finish....
You’ve come so far, man! Loving your tutorials!
Dude, I've seen countless guitar lessons, and you lay waste to all of them. Great detail and broken down perfectly. Fantastic work.
watching your tool lessons makes me appreciate tool more and your awesome teaching skills as well. a superb teacher!
Axe of Creation is the BEST for learning Tool!
i just got an acoustic today. and im looking forward to watching your videos now for real. i have watched em already and Tool is fantastic.
Thank you so much bro! I've loved this song since I heard it in WPLJ in NY when it first came out, listened to the AEnema album to death on cassette driving from NY to Tampa. Rocked this song out last night around midnight on my new VOX AC30 in my headphones, rockin out! Looking forward to checking out your other lessons.
Helpful as always, whenever i see my subscriptions im always so stoked to see another tool song, stop what im doing immediately and start learning haha
love your videos man i appreciate you putting them up.
Thank you for your time. Awesome talent!
You are a phenomenal player and teach very well, thanks for doing what you do!
Another great lesson! I just listened to Aenima on the way home. Between the title and lyrics, I think it's one of Tools most clever songs. I've really been enjoying these Tool guitar lessons. Adam Jones knows exactly when to lay back and when to rock it! He's got such a unique style. Tool makes mind blowing music without any ego at all, there is no other band like them. I love the hemiola between the guitar chug on "learn to swim" and the triplet feel on the drums. Simultaneous 2 and 3 rhythm!!
Excellent lesson man !!! This is just what i need...great song great band!!! Keep it rockin'!!
im so happy you are alive
good stuff as usual man, always makes me happy to learn some tool
Thank you for this upload, man!!!
thanks alot for this. song is easy enough to learn by ear but this helped with the more nuanced parts of mr jones' performance
Thanks so much for your input. I try to upload a video once every week or two (which isn't always to case). I've uploaded 8 videos since January not a bad start to the new year! I'll do my best to keep pace.
Great lesson!!! Very insightful!
Thanks for your input. I understand the concepts clear as day. As I said, there is/was a reason for doing so.
Very good lesson, well done too... thank you.
Just wanted to thank you for these Tool video's !! They are awesome/ i wanted to play tool when i first started playing guitar along time ago/ it was over my head/ now that i have the skills to learn them correctly they sound awesome!!! thanks i love how you get to the point/ gunna check out as many of your vids my two year old will let me Go AXEOFCREATION !!! very helpful !!
Another great video as always
Very well done!
Thanks for another high quality Tool video man. You're really fucking good and know your shit! But I think the thing that makes me respect you the most is the way you don't try to conform perfectly to Jones' style like many other people do. The little different things you do add more uniqeness so the song, which is essentially what Adam is about anyway. Rock on dude! :D
Thanks Axe. exeptional teaching
Loved your channel for years. Just wanted to thank you for the help. Just finished learning all parts now to get them down like buttah :) Hopefully up on my channel soon. Thank you again, i appreciate the particulars - thats so important.
Awesome lesson thanks a lot
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that!
Good job on that. I'd always done the full bar chord (on the 9th fret, emphasising the g & b string) on the part right before the outro. Never thought of using the b & high e on the 7th fret. You're right it does seem to ring out a little better.
I knew there was a reason this was the first vid. Awesome. You’re the truth dude. Been trying to learn this song for years. In particular the intro. You are the only guy I’m ever watching to learn how to play any Tool again (and most likely probably other bands too). A little fast but nothing I can’t go back over. Can you put a link to the equipment you use please? I can’t get my gain right.
Thank you and welcome! In this particular video, I believe I was using the Line 6 HD Rack. More recent lessons, I've using Helix Native. Check out my "How to Sound like Adam Jones" videos, it give a great generic overview.
axeofcreation thanks so much man! Much appreciated.
Sounds really good! I haven’t even tried to play it like this I just hammer on and off for the intro and do the exact same palm muting when you do the dead notes , just let my amp do the work with the hammer pulls to keep from cramping, sounds great both ways!
thankyou greg u rock
I need you as my guitar instructor! I love it, everything is open to interpretation. Unless you’re a studio musician trying to do exactly the same thing.
Good job!!
Great lesson!!! You are the best guitar teacher on youtube!!! The Tool songs become clear with your tips. Please make a guitar lessons of Karnivool, the best Aussie band in the world. Thanks!
Awesome video, dude! You are definetly the best guitar teacher on UA-cam, when I have a proper job (I'm a student at the moment) I'll definetly try and get a lesson with you. :D
What is the next Tool guitar lesson going to be? I'd really lke to see Rosetta Stoned or Third Eye!
Much appreciated!
gracias dude! much appreciated
@axeofcreation Great lesson as usual! your teaching style definitely helps me a lot plus i like how you incorporate theory in your explanations in regards to timing, etc. Your tone sounds great and i know you mentioned you used a delay and flanger effect on the song. Would you mind sharing the settings on your delay? i know its more of a subtle delay sound but i cant quite nail it. Thanks!
I like how he always mentions the time signature of the song. I like that.
nice! greeting from Mexico!
Great teacher.
Awesome.
classic track man yeaaaa rock on \m/
Hey dude, your channels amazing, i've been a fan for quite awhile now. one quick tip but, i think the thing thats setting you back from going fully viral is just the consistency than you pump out videos. i understand youtube isnt your main priority, but you honestly have the talent to be one of the most viewed teachers on youtube. releasing a video even once a fortnight would be huge :) just my advice, keep rockin!
Thanks for doing the Tool lessons, Tool is my favorite thing to play!
Awesome thx
those evertune bridges look sick man
u seem more energetic. so hyped!
what i've found from learning a few tool songs is that adam isn't afraid just to hang on the same note in his solos. i suppose initially this seems kinda counter inuitive to how you might think a solo should sound ie really busy but he makes it work with his bends artificial harmonics etc
Thanks! No need to fix it. Try playing it differently but in the end, play it however you think it sounds best.
awesome!! for the intro i don't strum the third supposed strum if that makes sense. So for the last five notes are not strum because when i go to strum it i do a 2-2(strummed)-0-2-0-2 instead of 2-0 -2-0-2. Obviously strumming with give the note more of a sharp sound but practice i guess will fix it;)
Thanks and Awesome as always! You ever thought of doing Rosetta Stoned?
Thanks.
I love your lessons, make one about Parabola please!!!! :-)
third eye please! more tool!!
Amen brother
During the verse where you play the dead notes, I tend to follow the bass, similar to what you play in the second half of the verse, with the muted intro riff. Both work though, cause especially during the first verse, the guitar is really quiet, and I've seen it tabbed both ways all over the place. Great lesson though. Love the Zelda poster in the corner too. Also, the middle section before the solo, I usually play the whole bit with the slide, and I usually keep it on my finger the whole song.
Love these instructional videos. You rock, dude! Really appreciate all this. I see a SUNY diploma on the wall. I went to New Paltz. Where did you go?
Stony Brook
Where is the AEnema play through. The link seems to be broken. It would be helpful to see it. Thanks
KILLER!!!!!!
your sound is amazing id like to know more about it
How do you do the harmonics with d and g on the 5th fret
Dude do right in two!!!
Christ, I give up! This is too fucking hard. This guy plays it to a tee!
I miss when you used to actually cover the songs at the end. That's one of the reasons I watched the videos lol.
Great video, thank you!...and as for today (08/03/13) 4 people are just mad they can't do this job all detailed, tab included :-)
Top Notch Greg. Changed the way i play a few of them riffs lol yours sounded better
I'm actually running two delays. Both digital. One set around 300ms and the other around 750ms
I play the main Riff pretty much the same way, well exactly the same at the beggining, although i try not to pick the root and just go with all hammerons and pulloffs after the vocals kick in. apart from that the only riff that I play differently is at 1:12 in your play through you play that slide Riff. I was always shown to play that as a repeated hammeron pulloff on the 2nd fret. I dont know which way is "right" but who cares right? thats what sounds good to my ear anyway isnt that what matters
your a boss
Can you do a lesson for The Hollow from APC?
Bro please! Can you teach Parabola!
Why is the E5 power chord (2-2-2) used in this song (and very often, I might add) as none of the notes which comprise it fall on the d minor pentatonic scale, whereas almost every other note in this song comes right from the d minor pentatonic scale?
Actually most of the song is in E minor and then modulates...
This is how I like my lessons...just the nuts and bolts of how to play.
Axe, didnt you have an Agile lp?
Great job. Using the tabs on the website makes it simple with the video. Anyone know a good tab or video for Eulogy? I have found one lesson for it on Tube, but it is trash for a standalone.
Thanks! I'll be doing a Eulogy lesson soon
Maynard pronounced in "EYE NEH MA" in a few interviews and "AHH NEH MA" in others. It was never pronounced ANIMA. In fact there was an interview with Andy where he corrected the DJ on the pronunciation.
you are some kind of wizard
striving for my white robe.
I've always counted this song in 4/4 and 6/8 near the end
Anyone know what bridge pickup Adam Jones actually uses in his les paul's?
+x7stringinJSCx I've heard he uses the JB but I can't confirm that. I have a JB in one of my guitars and I'm a big fan of it (and other comparable pups).
What guitar is that?
Hey dude I've got one request. PLEEASSSEE do a lesson on Cesaro Summability! ;)
Hello again Crimson toxic!!
You should make a Third Eye Lesson!
Oh shit...
what about "Sober"? Thanks
You should click the link in the description :)
@traileater Yes. No longer the case
