      Jason Brand More mid. Lots of folks, especially younger players scoop the mids out. Experiment! Turn your distortion down and add some mid. Remember that the drama and dynamics are what you are creating, the amp knobs don't need to be set extreme.

    random.. But I'm watching this with the auto generated subtitles on and at certain points the guitar literally talks. it gives it words. kinda cool especially the end when you are jamming and the guitar is going yeah yeah yeah

    Thank you so much bro! I've loved this song since I heard it in WPLJ in NY when it first came out, listened to the AEnema album to death on cassette driving from NY to Tampa. Rocked this song out last night around midnight on my new VOX AC30 in my headphones, rockin out! Looking forward to checking out your other lessons.

    Another great lesson! I just listened to Aenima on the way home. Between the title and lyrics, I think it's one of Tools most clever songs. I've really been enjoying these Tool guitar lessons. Adam Jones knows exactly when to lay back and when to rock it! He's got such a unique style. Tool makes mind blowing music without any ego at all, there is no other band like them. I love the hemiola between the guitar chug on "learn to swim" and the triplet feel on the drums. Simultaneous 2 and 3 rhythm!!

    Thanks for another high quality Tool video man. You're really fucking good and know your shit! But I think the thing that makes me respect you the most is the way you don't try to conform perfectly to Jones' style like many other people do. The little different things you do add more uniqeness so the song, which is essentially what Adam is about anyway. Rock on dude! :D

    Good job on that. I'd always done the full bar chord (on the 9th fret, emphasising the g & b string) on the part right before the outro. Never thought of using the b & high e on the 7th fret. You're right it does seem to ring out a little better.

    I knew there was a reason this was the first vid. Awesome. You’re the truth dude. Been trying to learn this song for years. In particular the intro. You are the only guy I’m ever watching to learn how to play any Tool again (and most likely probably other bands too). A little fast but nothing I can’t go back over. Can you put a link to the equipment you use please? I can’t get my gain right.

    Sounds really good! I haven’t even tried to play it like this I just hammer on and off for the intro and do the exact same palm muting when you do the dead notes , just let my amp do the work with the hammer pulls to keep from cramping, sounds great both ways!

    @axeofcreation Great lesson as usual! your teaching style definitely helps me a lot plus i like how you incorporate theory in your explanations in regards to timing, etc. Your tone sounds great and i know you mentioned you used a delay and flanger effect on the song. Would you mind sharing the settings on your delay? i know its more of a subtle delay sound but i cant quite nail it. Thanks!

    what i've found from learning a few tool songs is that adam isn't afraid just to hang on the same note in his solos. i suppose initially this seems kinda counter inuitive to how you might think a solo should sound ie really busy but he makes it work with his bends artificial harmonics etc

  • @axeofcreation
    @axeofcreation  11 років тому +1

    Thanks! No need to fix it. Try playing it differently but in the end, play it however you think it sounds best.

  • @shadyblitz
    @shadyblitz 11 років тому

    awesome!! for the intro i don't strum the third supposed strum if that makes sense. So for the last five notes are not strum because when i go to strum it i do a 2-2(strummed)-0-2-0-2 instead of 2-0 -2-0-2. Obviously strumming with give the note more of a sharp sound but practice i guess will fix it;)

    During the verse where you play the dead notes, I tend to follow the bass, similar to what you play in the second half of the verse, with the muted intro riff. Both work though, cause especially during the first verse, the guitar is really quiet, and I've seen it tabbed both ways all over the place. Great lesson though. Love the Zelda poster in the corner too. Also, the middle section before the solo, I usually play the whole bit with the slide, and I usually keep it on my finger the whole song.

    I play the main Riff pretty much the same way,well exactly the same at the beggining, although i try not to pick the root and just go with all hammerons and pulloffs after the vocals kick in. apart from that the only riff that I play differently is at 1:12 in your play through you play that slide Riff. I was always shown to play that as a repeated hammeron pulloff on the 2nd fret. I dont know which way is "right" but who cares right? thats what sounds good to my ear anyway isnt that what matters

    Why is the E5 power chord (2-2-2) used in this song (and very often, I might add) as none of the notes which comprise it fall on the d minor pentatonic scale, whereas almost every other note in this song comes right from the d minor pentatonic scale?

    • @guitaristssuck8979
