This is why we still went ahead with our second BYD Seal Premium. Would be nice to have something different in the $50k category but they either only have LFP in a short range model like the Xpeng, or even worse not at all like this car which otherwise looks fantastic. Getting 500+ km on a LFP battery seems like a rare ask outside of a long range Seal. Side note we did prefer a sedan too and there’s no Xpeng P7 here right now.
No offence taken! I love having Joy there to keep me honest and also as a backup in case I miss anything. Sometimes when I’m by myself I’m not sure if I’m going off on a tangent or not 🤪
Hi Tom. With the BYD"s you can use 3 finger swipe up down for temperature and three finger left right for fan speed. I've heard a few people complain about the pull up for the bottom menu on the BYD's, but that's only because they don't know about the 3 finger swipe feature. Hope you don't keep mentioning that as a problem, as BYD's 3 finger swipe is better than the menu on the bottom, which wastes screen real estate and complicates the screen IMHO. Imagine with the menu on the bottom, the time it can take you to figure things out with your eyes of the road? I use the the finger swipe without even looking at the screen while driving. It's better. You can use it in both Apple car play and Android auto also.
Thanks I realise you can do the three finger swipe and yes it’s quite handy. Still I want my cake and eat it too … I want the swipe and also the shortcut bar down the bottom
Thanks Tom, great video again. What I dont get is why does it need a service every 6 months/10000km?? Its an electric car, there shouldnt be a need to service that frequent.
I do wonder why so many people can not use Google to find out simple things like specifications, like its 445lt seats up and 1385lt seats down. And that was found using Google in a few seconds!
Wow.. That sure is impressive. Not too sure about people in the back seat being able to move the passenger seat forward/backwards..... Unless it only works when there is no one sitting in the passenger seat?
Most BYD are no better, even the Seal while claiming 150kw really averages just 95kw. It's only when you get into the 800v that actual fast charging happens, our EV6 tops out at 230kw while realistically, it's a constant 175kw up till 77% and with most new DC charges being installed are 150kw then a car that averages 150kw up to at least 80% is a must on a long road trip.
All vehicles with the driver monitoring are going to have to be desensitised. It is standard practice that drivers have to be able to look to the main screen for functional reasons … especially when so many buttons have been ‘lost’. Also Tom, just watched a video of a Seal OTA 1.4 os where a strip of shortcut function button are going to be added across the bottom of the screen.
Yayyyy, they get it. Centre screen is fine IF you have a hud. Need the speed in my line of sight. Really nice interior. For me, best EV of the recent lot thats come from china, even if no sunglasses holder. This seems like a lot of car for the money.
The bZ4X provides exquisite comfort, cutting-edge safety features, and a range of up to 252 miles, making it an excellent choice for long travels or urban commuting.
Quite funny Tom as Bjorn literally did his road test with this car not long ago and just watched his video about it yesterday. Definitely had issues with it but then he has issues with almost every car he does his long distance road trips/tests with. The real test is accuracy of the GoM, is it like BYD with their truly inaccurate GoM based on CLTC, EV route planning and live charger status info(ie: Google), charge curve(not peak but the overall curve) from 10-80% real world. I'd love to know what the rear leg room would be like with a tall driver or passenger as well say 6'4"/193cm plus. Those insects in Sydney though Tom, they must know when you're filming and come out in full force.
@@TassieEV if you plan on driving an EV on long trips frequently, please, please review Bjorn's content rather than reviews that are focussed on being nice to the car dealers/manufacturers, those reviewers who do a few short trips and talk about seat pockets and cup holders
@@LudicrousFeed All of those are MEB platform cars - also getting the Skoda Elroq mid year which looks like a really impressive smaller SUV to compete with Kia EV3. Tavascan is lovely to sit in. Some of the French cars are interesting, but not coming to Aus & probably too expensive if they do.
Regarding the labels on the rear, they look like they are centred to the flattish area they are stuck on. Would look better if they were each set with the closest character set a given distance from the outer edge? Actually the best part is no part. Get rid of it, if anyone notices the badges, it is because they look wronhg: and they add no value.
Yes, all of that annoying "driver assistance" stuff is mandatory for 5 star NCAP/ANCAP these days. Not only that, but to get the rating, it has to default to on every time you start the car. As Joy quite rightly pointed out, the anti-distraction warning tone is so annoying it's arguably dangerous. Sort of defeats the purpose doesn't it?
92 kw charging? That's pretty sad. Looks great but specs pretty meh for price. In China they get more power for less as well as choice of LFP Batteries. Love the colour and the looks but for not much more get trusted KIA brand with interior I prefer. Can't help but feel we are being screwed over. Was interested until saw the specs. KL skyline.
Efficiency looks terrible. 80kWh battery and only 475km WLTP. Sounds like a charge guzzler. Charging also not great.. will it hold 95kW deep in the pack?
Slow DC charging speed, less range than the Seal Premium by a long shot, let alone the Model Y. Unfortunately, not loving it at first glance, even if the software is better than the Seal pre the v1.4 update.
Painfully long review but based on a few stats you did mention, its not an EV suited for long trips, ridiculously slow charging speeds, annoying warnings and being NMC not really suitable as a city run about with poor efficiency. BTW at the start the efficiency figure you mentioned was that consumed during driving only, not the cars totally efficiency figure. And no one pedal driving. Car is set up for Chinese drivers where i believe one pedal driving isnt allowed which means that the car will slow down around bends with cruise enabled. I prefer a more thorough review rather than you touchie feeling opinion. Did the frunck have a drain plug? Does it have a glove box? Does the voice commands work.

Probably the best looking EV in Australia atm. Love. Rear badges don’t bother me but the metal behind the number plate does
Yes probably could do with a plastic backing behind the rear plate
No LFP, which it has in China? Pass. But great review, Tom, and Joy is a good co-host 👍👍
Nice if they had another SR variant with a smaller LFP battery (like XPeng)
It's like there had to be something wrong, otherwise: perfection.

Hey Tom. I love that you are including your wife's opinions in these reviews. You have to know, that her opinions are more important than yours 😉
That’s always a given 😁🥰
My wife is the financial controller. Everything goes through her. I can’t even buy a gadget without her approval

Just curious is that crickets I hear throughout video?
