Hey everybody,
Late January goings on here at the courtyard garden with last of the bulbs potted and what we're working on since the cold icy weather followed by the two storms.
Thanks for stopping by, and as always do leave a comment, and of course subscribe and hit the bell if you haven't already done so.
All the best,
Hugh

Oh my hands are itching. My cannas and elephant ears are still growing inside. My house is warmer than last year. Its like spring here too. Im not used to this. In '18 we had a Blizzard in April which killed things. Berry trees. No berries.
I'm so anxious. Have a wonderful weekend Hugh❤
Thanks for stopping by Molly, yes, we've had some amazing spring-like days, and like you said, we can late hard weather. Such is the gardeners life, isn't it 😊😊
@@HortiHugo it has been easier on arthritis. I have a couple new methods of planting perennial seed I'm trying. Since my ground is so much clay. In containers too. The freeze doesn't seem to hurt them.
@@mollylittlewolf9192 Yes, growing some things in pots is definitely an advantage Molly, especially when the pots can be placed in more sheltered areas when the weather is colder 🌱🌱😊
@@HortiHugo I have got to get bulbs now. I started Sweet William in pots and transplanted so we'll see if they are good.
Sweet William are super Molly, hope they're coming along nicely 🌱👍🏻😊
You'r going to have a lovely show HH.....can't wait to see the Springtime again 👍
Yes, Spring won't be long now, and with days like these, definitely makes the winter feel shorter 👍🏻👍🏻
The promise of a lot of colour in those pots Hugh!
Those greenhouses - I enjoy those restoration videos on UA-cam, the before and after, the transformation. Got yourself a nice little restoration project there Hugh!
Goodway to look at the greenhouses John, both in need of work, particularly the glasshouse. Yes, plenty of colour on the way 😁😁
Wow look at all those bulb babies 😍, my poor bulbs are not happy as they were frozen then drowned but I’m hopeful 🙏. Hope the weather finally settles down for you, we are in the middle of a few days of downpours ☔️☔️☔️. My tiny irises no shows yet. Have a wonderful week and stay safe, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
There's something special about seeing all the bulbs come through Ali, the promise of spring 😁😁 Yes, weather is mostly unsettled at, so we certainly enjoy those bright days. Have a great week there too, Hugh 😊🌱👍🏻
Hi Hugh I definitely neglect my bulbs most years but I was more organised for a change this year and have topped up with fertilizer and compost, looking great just like yours 🙏👌👍💪🤠 My front garden gazanias are still alive 💪🤯
Hey Nick, well worth giving the bulbs some feeding, amazing how they respond. That's amazing about the gazanias, goes to show how mild the winters are 🌞🌞
Beautiful! 🤩 now I wish I planted more bulbs!!
These were some 'bonus' ones Susie (more like forgotten 😅😅). Roll on the spring show of flowers 😁😁
It all looks so spring like - it's definitely on the way - but there's no sound, Hugh.
Ah, thanks for stopping by, will have a look here and see if there's sound from my end 👍🏻
@@HortiHugoit's good now😊
All sorted now Gwen, sound should be working 👍🏻😊
@@mollylittlewolf9192 Thanks Molly, all sorted 😊👍🏻
@@HortiHugo Thank you for the pin!❤️🌹
Looking good Hugh. My bulbs are just about starting now, they're in the ground here (Waterford) but it has been very wet and I'm not at all sure about how they're going to do this year. Regarding the greenhouse, a sheet or two or twin wall polycarbonate should work, very easy to cut to size. 6 or 8 mm works well. I've built mine with it and it's withstood all the storms so far. 😊
Hey Ed, sounds like a great idea to replace with polycarbonate, where did you pick up yours? Well done on them with standing the storms!! Yes, ground is still very wet, is there a high water table there? Have a great week there, Hugh 🌱👍🏻😊
@@HortiHugo Hi Hugh, try 365 Plastics, Ashbourne, Co. Meath. I originally bought mine from Celuplast, Baldoyle. I'm not sure they still sell it. Marlon ST is the brand and 365 Plastics have it stock. The greenhouse I built is 12' X 8'. This year I'll fit auto vents for the windows.
The soil here consists of a certain amount of clay - with all the advantages and disadvantages that brings! Slightly acidic too, which the apple trees like.
Im trying to hide my pots from squirrels digging into them!
Aren't they such a nuisance! We had mice problems here, thankfully between Smudge the cat and some traps, there has been far less activity
Im on the north east coast of England - my bulbs are not as far on as yours I've got crocus daffodils hyacinths and tulips peeping up in pots 🌿🪻🌻🌼🌷
Sounds leke plenty of exciting colour to come there Helena. All the best, Hugh 😊👍🏻🌱
