Crhis your positive energy is contagious ! God bless you.
Thank you so much!
Chris, just finished a 75 mile section hike on the PCT from Timothy Lake to Cascade Locks. I am nearly 65 years old and took my Helinox Chair Zero. It was by far my favorite non-essential gear. I will not be hiking again without it!
I appreciate how detailed your videos are! I like that you show us the set up and packaging. So helpful!!
Thank you Laura!
And logs/stumps/rocks at camp are never in the sun when you need to sit somewhere warm, or in the shade when you want that. Zseat or chair when I pack now 😎👍🏼 Good stuff Chris!
Thanks Pow- One guy I talked with went backpacking in the Arizona desert...said he had no place to sit ( all cactus/ rocks and brush...went out and got a chair.
Thanks very much, Chris. I’m in the process of choosing a camping chair and this was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Grateful for your reviews... getting set up for Kayak and Backpack camping in the Sierras.
You always make me laugh. Even after a long day! The info is great too
I appreciate that!
Nice review! Just an honest straight forward review with the facts. Give the viewer excellent details to aid in their decision! A pleasure to watch! New Subscriber here...like the positive refreshing energy of this channel!
Thank you Greg! Keep Hiking!
Great reviews on all the gear Chris and very informative ~ thank you!
Glad you like them!
Regarding the Z Seat (which I love), I would also point out that the silver side reflects body heat back to you. I take it along to use in my camp chair when I car camp. What a difference it makes on a cold day!
Good point! well designed/ simple piece of gear!
Like the idea of having a little welcome mat for your boots keeping your socks clean and feet clean
I picked up a small hand broom and dust pan/ a welcome would be a good idea! Thanks.
I've tried so many types of Backpacking chairs and since I discovered the Hammock chair... I just love it. 1lbs just need a tree and you're super comfy hahahaha.. Thanks for sharing
That is awesome! Yes the ole chairs vs the hammock chair little more work setting up but a real good lounge.
@David Wang well, yea... it's always possible to find some issues but still 😉
Thanks, I was looking for just the right one.
Welcome! Keep Hiking! or sitting in this case.
I think you made this video for me, lol, great comparison and reviews on the chairs , give me something to think about before getting one. Thanks for the video Chris, excellent as always !!!
I do have one like the stool you showed , but one with a back would really be nice !!!
Thank you IH ! Always a lot to think about with new gear. Keep Hiking!
"Need" is such a strong word.
Needs in the US don't mean the same as in the rest of the world.
That trekology looks like the one for me so thanks chris for helping us to see the specs on both
Welcome Calvin!
Hey Chris nice vs video we have been using the Trekology chair for a couple of years and had no problems with it. And you can get the Trekology sand shield for soft ground. Thanks for sharing stay safe my friend
Welcome! yes the sand shield could be very helpful.
Thanks Chris..Very informative.
Welcome Talking Bird.
great detailed review, thanks a lot
Glad it was helpful!
Great camp chair comparison!
Thank you!
Cooking: I do everything possible to cook on a surface above the ground. I use dirt or sand to level the stove.
I found in my local outdoor store this GCI Stool that doesn’t has the ring like most of them do. The poles have that elastic cord and folds fairly small. If I hang it in the middle of my osprey external horizontal compression straps, its length wont exceed an inch past the second compression strap. Its fairly small, the bottom mesh also works great in the dessert it prevented it from sinking too much. 19.99 if you wanna look at it but to be honest you can’t beat having an actual chair.
$20 bucks is a good price...I do like the back support of the chair.
Sportneer Ultralight chair on Amazon is $34.99 and holds up to 350 lbs. Weighs in at 2lbs and has adjustable legs to change the position you sit in.
Great price - Sounds solid!
Two pack currently seeking for 54.99
Would love to see more comparisons in the future. The REI vs. Helinox vs. Big Agnes vs. a couple Amazon chairs.
Good idea...always side by side look you get a real feel for what is really going on.
I went to REI and they allow you to open the 2 REI chairs and the Helinox chair to compare (Those were the 3 my local REI had). It really helped me make my decision and go with the Helinox.
LOL 😆 I actually have 2 of the Trekolgy chairs. It was for lakes and beaches. It has worked really well. The price is right and they are so light.
Cool - they are solid chairs. Comfortable too....Keep Hiking!
Thanks Chris!
You bet!
A problem I have, and have seen, is that when you get older and your knees get stiff it can be difficult to get out of these chairs once you get in. One stool I am considering is the Stansport camping stool. 1 lb and inexpensive.
Yes these chairs are designed to have you sit way back / almost hammock like...The Stansport could be a good option.
I would first decide whether you think you will be comfortable on a stool. Really, the purpose of the chairs is to have a back to lean back on. I don't think I'd be comfortable having to hunch down on a stool and have to concern myself a little bit with the balance. And the ass pads aren't always built for your particular ass type! :)
REI usually include their chairs when they hold their regular sales. If you watch, you can get the flexlight air for $70 several times a year.
They also have the standard flexlight that is comparable to the outdoor vitals chair. In case you want to see it before you buy.
That is a good price! Thanks.
great review Chris.... you can buy some bigger feet that slip over the top of the originals and create a bigger surface area and stop them digging in also cutting a couple of old tennis balls in half and putting them under the feet works as well ....
Thank you, good tip ...some people have found small flat rocks to put under that help as well.
I usually have my Sherpa cary my naugahyde barcalounger, but if I'm roughing it I bring my Chair Zero.
Expensive - but worth a look! super light and well designed...may add that to my list to review. Thanks! Tell your Sherpa thanks as well.
cool, thanks
Keep Hiking!
Good job
Thanks!
Thanks Chris! There are some much cheaper knockoffs off these chairs on Amazon would love you to give us your opinion on one of those!
Great comparison man. Much better than reading about 1 at a time . Not sure why rei build their chair unstable like that
Thanks Titan! I think they tried to keep things small ( narrow ) and get the weight down. But you lose performance.
For backpacking chair spend the money for the lighter Flexlite Air or Helinox Zero. Still way nicer than ground and REI has had Flexlite Air at $50 no brainer over heavier one for BP. I think Helinox is a little nicer but REI is fine too.
Das zum sitzen ist ja cool
Thank you for the great information. One question, can you post the weight of each chair without the bag? Does it lower the weight of the 2 lb chair by any? Thank you again.
Slightly more/ not sure the weight. The REI bag is mesh.
I appreciate that so many other companies have picked up the ball regarding these chairs.
The problem for the Trekology one is that it's a tweener that might not really have much of a market.
Let's establish that the purpose of adding a chair in the first place is usually to have something with a back that you can lean back on without having to balance the chair on your own, so the stool and other weird, slightly lighter models of other chairs just don't really cut it. As was said, there's the ground and rocks for most other types of sitting.
The standard for backpacking chairs has been set at roughly 1#. It's already considered a luxury item and weight-weinie thru- or distance-hikers aren't going to add any more weight than they have to.
But backpackers aren't the only people who use camp chairs. There are also people who just drive to a campground, walk a short distance and set up. Weight isn't really a concern for them, so they can feel free to get the Ozark Trail version from Walmart that weighs north of 3# and is the same basic design. It sells for $19.99.
There really doesn't seem to be a substantial middle swath of people who just hike a moderate distance who only care somewhat about the weight on their backs. It's either light or don't care. That leaves a $39.99 chair in the middle weight sort of on the outside looking in.
I think the primary consumers for it will be people who hate going to Walmart, and embryonic thru-hikers who aren't patient enough to save up for the $99.99 chair that they will buy anyway in another year or two.
All the chairs will sink into soft ground. You can buy a base that stretches across all of the legs that costs more than it's probably worth, or buy a set of those pads you put under the legs of couches and beds for about $3 and toss them in the bag that comes with the chair. Or just use flat rocks.
Once you're seated, you're not really moving around so much that any rocking becomes pronounced. At least not in my case. I don't know that this is really an issue unless you're really fidgety. It's probably more of a complaint because a lot of us find ourselves getting up and tending to this or that, rather than just sitting for long periods.
Keep up the good work!
Good thoughts...thanks for your comment! Will do.....
i like the treckology but why does the soft ground attachment for it cost more than the chair itself?
Could you possibly do reviews on the wise owl outfitters brand? I love your reviews and was wondering if you could review some.
Looks like some interesting gear! I'll see what I can do.
Trekology just came out with the yizi lite, very similar to the one from REÍ
Interesting...worth a look. Trekology is much more affordable...well built too. They get that weight down there I will review> thanks.
It will be interesting to see whether you have the same attitude when you are in your 60's and 70's at the end of a long days hiking.
I got Medicare last year. I love my REI Flexlite. Am working on a groundsheet/leg pads. I am using Aluminum can bottoms currently, but will fab a groundsheet a la Chair Zero and test it.
Great video base camp Chris 😊 from my own experience the three legged stool type is not very compatible with male anatomy over a long period of time.. I have a chair very similar to your trekology one. I added big chunky walking pole rubber feet to each leg to overcome the sinking problem, they cost me £2 GBP for all 4. I love the retro signs in the background, great presentation. 😊👍🏽🙏🏽🏕️
Thank you...yes the 3 legged are not the most comfortable/ very affordable. Chair is better!
You mean you don't like standing up and having your manly bits tingling in the wrong way ... before the pins and needles set in as the circulation asserts itself again? :D
@A.J. Hart Ahhh, I can tell you've been there too 😂
@@AggyGoesOutdoors There is a reason I don't use the exercise bike at the gym.
Hello Chris we hope all is well with you . i agree i would not recommend you sitting on a cactus lol. thanks for sharing your opinion my friend stay safe love and Light Sarah and Glenn
Thank You 👍 Enjoy your Holidays!
Just get it!
Great vid Chris....I have the very same Trekology chair think it cost me £28 on Amazon but I bout the separate bit of kit that makes it stable in sand and soft ground etc....I also bought a couple of thermorest seat pad copies from Amazon so yes they were Chinese but for a few £ each you can’t complain right?.....still going strong
Hey Alistair - The Trekology is super solid chair...yes I need the Z seat for my knees when I'm cooking and building a fire.
I wonder what the trekology weighs without the bag?
Look into the Helinox Chair Zero.
Sounds light weight ....worth a look.
cup holder sold me
I know I would use it!
Watched all
Im in the Bay Area California and we have a Decathlon store here that has Amazing products that I have recommended since I found out about that store. The sitting pad there is $7 and so is the stool I believe which I own and Love. I also purchsed their $19.99 , 13.1 oz, 70.9 x 21.7 folding foam mattress thats just like the ThermaRest Z-lite. and a very nice self inflating sleep pad I bought last year was $40! Check it out
Great prices! worth a look! Thanks
I want check out REI chair before I buy it. I have a treakolgy stool weighs 22 ounces. does work well curved hard get side pocket or on back of my pack.
Very good...I have the Helinox Chair Zero I'm looking at for a review
.
What is the weight limit for the Trekology chair, Chris ?
You didn't mention it.
Keep up the great work !
Hey Crew, sorry you didn't catch that, the Trekology has a 300 lb. capacity...I mention it at 6:03...Thanks for watching.
the trekology has a max capacity of 300lb and the REI is 250lb
@@everyoneknowsadave3580, thank you !!!
I may have to have Santa get me one in January....LOL !
It'll be under the tree!
@@basecampchris, Santa's budget says it's gonna wait...LOL !!!
I am so confused by your back drop...Do you present everything on your knees? Because the background didn't change...Sorry...I get distracted easy lol. I have the trek chair and I love that thing! It does tend to dig into softer ground though so be careful with stability.
I tend to move around...I have a desk, but with larger items I go on the floor to film sometimes. They do have a sand cover for the Trekology chair FYI...I may check into it.
rb.gy/cndwjp
Montbell has a stool which is around 375gm
Great weight!
Chris-that clock needs a battery! Regards.
I got a battery...took it out. Loudest ticker in the county!

I purchased 2 CLIQ chairs from CLIQ on May 25, 2022. One chair came missing a pin. Emailed CLIQ, few days later, I get a response asking for my address and how many screws I needed to repair the chair. I demanded a new replacement holding CLIQ responsible for their written policy on refunding or replacing broken or damaged product. I received a replacement. NOW, the plastic caps on the back legs of the replacement chair is breaking off. I sent email to CLIQ on 7/5/22. Sent photos requested. No response from CLIQ even after sending several messages. Just sent email to "Holly" on 7/8/22.
I take the (drained) inner bladder from a goon bag; it packs down to not much bigger than a pillbox, weighs like 20g, & inflates to a nice, fat, waterproof cushion that's equally good under my head or knees ar night (inside a cover) as it is under my bottom during the day. Plus, it's foil, so it's pretty warm, too.
Classy? No. Practical? Absolutely.
P.S. As mentioned in another comment, I also take my Trekology chair, but sometimes you need to sit down _right now_ , or won't be stopping lock enough for the 30 seconds of assembly & disassembly + repacking to be warranted.
Plus, at partial inflation it gives me extra height + warmth when I _do_ use the chair, on the occasions when that's worth sacrificing the extra back support for, or if fully inflated can make a decent footrest, when not.
Respectfully, these are not apples to apples comparisons. I think you should be comparing the chair zero, to the Yeezy go light, to that REI one, maybe even that other Big Agnes competitor. Need to separate the 2 pounders from the 1 pounders
Your channel is a lot of fun. Not too serious....and you win the best set design. maybe Im nuts but when you finish buying all this awesome gear (most of which never makes the trip), putting it in tubs is such a waste. I have about a 5 x 5 closet space that I made look like REI. Shopped the garage for shelfs and lighting. Decoupaged the walls with big black and white pics from trips. walmart plastic drawers. Its just so nice to fondle my gear and see it on display in fun lighting. Your space is much bigger but super fun. Cheers
Sounds like a great gear closet!! I picked up a new shelf this week installing in my garage to add more gear space! When your organized it's much easier getting out the door on a trip!
Dos XX you know about beer.
Yes...I do Love Beer!! Dos Equis!
Buy cheap buy twice or even 3 times. Find the right helinox for your needs to avoid that. Just my opinion
Buy a cheap blue, closed-cell sleeping pad for under $15, cut it to size.
That'll work....basically what I did in the old days. Keep Hiking!
As someone who identifies as a cactus I am offended by this video
LOL!
Ist das as zum sitzen für kleine Menschen ja
