Amputations can occur during during accidents. These are the steps that the emergency responder can take when handling the amputated body part.
1) If possible, clean the amputated body part with water
2) Wrap the amputated prat with gauze or clean cloth
3) Put it in a clean plastic bag
4) Put the amputated body part in a cooler with ice, or bag with ice
