Thank you for this review of the Nazarene Hymnal….it brought to mind wonderful memories of the old hymns of the Church, the gathering of like believers at camp meetings, and responsive readings of the Word during services. Sadly, in recent visits to various Protestant churches, I observed very few folks carrying Bibles, no Bibles and no hymnals in the seats/pews, and only a few Scripture references on the screens during the services. Many things change with the passage of time, but God’s Word never changes.

Our church started over a year ago to put all the hymns and scripture reading up on 6 screens 3 on each side. My wife still loves to hold the hymnal and sing from it, can't read music but she notices the changes by looking. She sings out of her hymnal every morning and loves reading the stories behind the hymns. I don't mind the screens as the hymnal is hard to read sometimes. We have been reading a chronological bible together this year, reading out loud every other page to each other. Thanks for the video. take care

Raised Lutheran, de-churched for a number of years and now happily in a Wisconsin Synod Lutheran congregation due to their adherence to the whole Bible and its saving Gospel message.

Tremendous! I have quite a collection of Hymnals, but I don’t have that one! I will have to find a copy. It looks fantastic!

I had to watch this 15 minute video in 4 disconnected sections due to children and other obligations, and now i can't think of anything smart to share. But i enjoyed seeing it! I'm biased, but those Wesley hymns are some of the best.

Thank you. I suspect that few people who make videos are normally-thinking people. The church in which I grew up also now has TV screens. I wonder what hymnal the Nazarene Church I visited from time to time when I was a kid used. Maybe that one from the '30's. My Nazarene neighbors loved pointing out to me, a Baptist, that only John was a Baptist, while Jesus was a Nazarene.

@@dalecaldwell Oh, my Brother in Christ (as the kids say): if you really want that old hymnal, it can easily be arranged. Unless you were commenting in jest.

@@ma-mo Oh. My. You are forcing me to consider putting my mouth where my money is, or at least where potentiallly my money might be. Your video made me realize that I know next-to-nothing about the Nazarenes, despite having a MDiv featuring Methodist Studies. I was intrigued by the west coast connection. It seems that when American Christianity reached the Pacific Ocean, it did all sorts of Californication. My otherwise Baptist great-grandmother never missed the radio broadcasts of The World Tomorrow with Herbert W. Armstrong. And then there's Aimee Semple McPherson, who was pretty much the first evangelist of the airwaves. &tc. But I'm not sure if having that hymnal would really help me much understand what happened when the Frontier Thesis reached the Beach.

My Church has mostly ditched previous hymnals(1940 Hymnal, The New English Hymnal, etc) in place of The 1980 Hymnal and Lift Every Voice And Sing.
However a few hold outs exist in my Diocese. I prefer The New English Hymnal myself but do also like The Ausbund(used by Amish and conservative Mennonites)
