As an old fart Scotsman living in CA, my heart fairly breaks to come home. Guess it's the Salmon in me 😉 Guess either way my soul will come home 🙏🏴
Donnie - the voice of Scotland. Bruce - Scotlands voice to the world. I love them both - different times, different voices. But one thing will never change - Scotland in my heart
Remember picking our twins up from dances in Broadford with 4 others in the back of the car singing Runrig songs the whole way home. Believe it or not, I loved these 2am drives. So many happy memories of these kids (and me) singing with windows wide open and Runrig blaring up Druim Na Cleoch with nobody to disturb for miles. Happy Days
I am English but this group is simply brilliant and this song is fantastic sung with feeling. Fabulous: shame they are no longer but at least I can listen to them whenever I want which is often
This is probably my favourite single bit of footage of Runrig across their history. The guitar solo is the best of all the versions and the sense of finality in Donnie's vocals bring the lyrics home. It marked the end of Runrig as I knew it but listening back to Mara and Amazing Things it's hard to know for sure if they could have continued to be fresh and original for these extra years. Songs like Road Trip, Travellers, Wall of China, Leaving Strathconan and Big Songs of Hope and Cheer are diverse songs written for Bruce's voice and I now feel that I have two options when I want to listen: classic Runrig and modern Runrig. To me that is a rare blessing.
Adi Biały totally agree with everything you said they should have called it a day in 1997 an Malcolm is an absolute amazing guitarist best in Scotland anyway hope Donnie's back singing it at the final farewell in 2018 ( it's my funeral song btw )
I agree, its exactly the same for ACDC fans, Bon vs Brian... can't and shouldn't compare as they are different. This concert recording is my favourite live performance of any band.
Totally agree with you Adi, two lineups for Runrig and each carrying the spirit and passion of the music. And the music lives on, for those of us who love it, it has become part of us.
i have been to so many gigs over the years of many genres but never have i ever seen so many many people crying, weeping and/or greetin as at a Runrig gig. It is clearly emotional
My favourite Runrig song (only Donny singing it) Played at my brothers funeral (he lived in Australia for 35 years) in Fife and Australia at the same time allowing for the time difference :)
Donnie Munro is very active in the music business indeed and charity work :) you can check out his website if you google for it , but yes he is still around :)
A good guy becoming a wank like all politicians, probably found out he can do nothing even when elected, the corruption is unbelievable, I know this for an absolute fact with money distribution it's frightening with councils in Scotland, it's not a conspiracy, it's set up well and lots of twats get rich without question, easily traceable dunno why it's not investigated, I'd vote for any party who would activity hunt the millions and corrupted tender deals that are gave out, sad that it's accepted 🤷🏼♂️
I sailed from Uig to Tarbert on Hebrides and Runrig played in the bar including a blast of the pipes! They played in Leverburgh hall that weekend. They always filled the place there but then they hit the big time with Loch Lomond so it was the Royal Albert Hall after that!
It's never too late to discover great new music ;) Donnie Munro left Runrig, because he wanted a career in politics - but he still makes music on his own now, and he's still great. Those of us who was at the anniversary concert earlier this year experienced him on stage once again - singing duet with Runrig's new front man Bruce Guthro and singing a solo song.
The original album version is so wonderfully haunting, but this is my favourite live version of it, where the whole instrumental part was added putting it into live Runrig folklore for me.
Extra instrumental part but no crowd singalong, vs Last Dance version which was totally a Cappella (and sung mostly by the crowd). Good to have such contrasting versions to choose between!
Lianne Cumming hope Donnie's singing at the final farewell in 2018 Bruce can't and shouldn't try to sing Donnie's songs they didn't need him Rory's a brilliant singer
Thank you and also for introducing me to Socha. Another great Scottish group. My favorite has always been Doo Wop but I really love the Celtic music. One of my favorite Irish bands is Celtic Thunder and let's not forget Daniel O'Donnell.
You're right. This is from a transfer I did from VHS 9 years ago. I did a transfer of the full concert in better quality a few years ago. It can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/zP3Q0j2y7Uw/v-deo.html
He's an amazing singer. I am new to Runrig so why did he leave the group? What a beautiful performance. I have never been to Scotland and has always been my dream. My grandfather on my father's side was born there but don't remember where it was because he has passed on a long time ago and so hasn't my Dad.
Donna MacCrossan runrig is nothing without Donnie and like many other fans I haven't been to a Runrig Gig since he left I just can't listen to Bruce murdering Donnie's songs
I always liked this song, the music and and never really understood the words until Jesus Christ became my Lord and King, he revealed a truth that you all know when i hear Runrig sing this song, for it will make you weep and and be ashamed because you want to be healed and made whole, in yourself, in your family, in your life, in your nation, in what you think you and everythiing you think Sootland and you are all about. If you want to get healed and truly live, get Jesus, in your in your life Now, the storm to wash away sin and unbelief is upon this nation and calling for those blind and deaf who want to hear and see. this is truth. If you know the truth, then the truth shall MAKE you free. if the son therefore shall make you free, then you shall be free indeed
Sorry to say but they seem to have forgotten some of the Scottish cities that supported them in their earlier years. We miss them in Aberdeen it is time they came back
I'm working on arranging this for piano/Celtic harp just so I can enjoy playing it for myself. Basic chords are not enough.... I want the choral subtleties and countermelodies! Between Rory's(?) higher harmony and the studio gospel version, I'll get there...
Was there, can't listen to Donnie singing it without tears.Absolutely brilliant.Donnie got the most stirring voice,I've ever heard.❤👍
Definitely
check out Julie Fowlis's version. worthy. x
Played this at my mums funeral,we are Scots and thank you mum for bringing us up knowing what it means
My Mum is a Scot tae and yes agreed. God Bless You.
🏴💙🦢💙🏴
This band is what it means, to be Scottish ❤
No disrespect but definitely first generation Runrig fan no one sings like Donnie especially this one, emotive for me & family
As an old fart Scotsman living in CA, my heart fairly breaks to come home. Guess it's the Salmon in me 😉 Guess either way my soul will come home 🙏🏴
Absolutely agree
Legend 🏴
Got to agree to a certain extent. Pre Bruce runrig songs are always going to be better by Donnie. After that Bruce is runrig through and through
Totally agree 👍
Runrig deserved far wider international renown. Awesome band!!
Like Marillion. Underrated
Donnie - the voice of Scotland. Bruce - Scotlands voice to the world. I love them both - different times, different voices. But one thing will never change - Scotland in my heart
Never let go of that emotion.
It's great to shed a tear for Truth.
💚🇨🇮❤🇮🇪
Donnie for President!
Donnie is Runrig. He can’t be replaced x
Robbie Williams wanted to join. Facts!

Whats happened to the world - we need more Runrig in the world more than ever. RR
I'm English but love and miss this band so much Rip Bruce ❤❤❤
Still Brings Tears to My Eyes !! I Hope Alex Salmond Hears this in Heaven !!
As a Dane I've only seen Alex Salmond once. He was at the stage before the Runrig concert in Scone 2009
Thought it was only me, happy to see this song has the same effect on others, eyes swell up so easy listening to this.
This is probably my favourite single bit of footage of Runrig across their history. The guitar solo is the best of all the versions and the sense of finality in Donnie's vocals bring the lyrics home.

My dads funeral today. He loved Runrig
I'm far away from home and crying 😢 whooah amazing
i have been to so many gigs over the years of many genres but never have i ever seen so many many people crying, weeping and/or greetin as at a Runrig gig. It is clearly emotional
Wow!! Donnie all the way...sung with all his heart love it!!
I get goosebumps and shivers when I hear this song
Peter Fordyce Great performance but "thairis air a ghleann" is by far my favourite track.
My favourite Runrig song (only Donny singing it) Played at my brothers funeral (he lived in Australia for 35 years) in Fife and Australia at the same time allowing for the time difference :)
My cousin dìed suddenly 9 days ago and she was a massive Runrig fan, whenever I hear this I think of her 😭😭
A greater Scottish band, you will never find.
Donnie munro , a fantastic voice
"The colours of Scotland leave you young inside."

the sexiest voice on this planet
Back when vocalists sang their hearts out to us
Such a beautiful song! Saor Alba!
favourite song of runrig
I so remember this used to be so loved up with Donnie lol
Audio audio is dreadful, I tried this with two sets of ear buds and the right channel is definitely knackered.

Hey Donnie, sad to say but the rest of the band backed the right (or should I say left) political party…!
why sing about scotland this way then turn into a labour nawbag totally destroyed me
Die schlechteste Version, die ich je gehört habe.....
Dann hör besser weg. Selbst die schlechteste Version von Donnie ist um Welten besser als die beste von Bruce. Fakt!
Hello Andreas. Greetings from Scotland. May I ask a question that intrigues me? Why is Runrig so popular in Germany?
