Got this camera once it was released,used a few times since.In 2021, I have been thinking to get a new one especially for shooting videos but as I knew this camera was considered as a really good one back then I decided to search the internet for a review like yours.Also, I am aware that 1080p video made by a outdated buy still powerful device can be better/the same than 4K one. Hi, I had decided to go for an entry level dslr i.e. nikon D5100 or Canon 600D, until I came across reviews of Sony RX100. The reviews have made me confused hence I have resorted to you for advice. I currently take snaps using Canon SX110 IS and main reason to upgrade to DSLR is better image quailty. Practically I think that my camera usage is limited to family vacation photography where I'm sure I will not carry multiple lenses, filters, etc in a separate heavy bag, thus I will be shooting using kit lens. I like bokkeh and i assume the kit lens will do a decent job at it. My concerns with the RX100 - 1. Image quality - Its sensor size is less than that of entry level DSLRs. 2. Cost - I can buy a Nikon D3100 + long lens for the same price. 3. Scope for adding lenses is not there however the range of lens should suffice my needs. Since the RX100 II is a compact camera it has obvious advantages with respect to portability hence the confusion. I heard many people that they take lot of snaps on their phones because DSLR is not available with them when they want it. I would like to go for the Sony RX 100 in case image quality is exactly same on a DSLR using kit lens. Your thoughts are highly appreciated.
Close your eyes and go for Sony RX100, I have same confusion which you have then I go to multiple camera shop and compare Canon 1200D, Nikon 5100D and Sony RX100 turst me Sony RX100 result is incredible.
For you suppose you purchase camera whose worth is rupees 1lakh and think if you didn't take 1lakh pictures from that camera then there is no worth of that 1lakh Rs. camera most of my friend costly DSLR camera but they didn't use that because that is not portable before carry to camera they think many time and not carrying so much. But here is good news If you have Sony RX100 believe me it's very convenient for carrying and Image quality is incedible :)

I had mine for four days until I had to send it back to Sony to get fixed. I had a flashing "E9501" on the screen and it would not let me do anything, If anybody knows what this code is please let me know.
If you know what you are doing, and are actually a good photographer, the Sony DSC-RX100 is capable of doing a great deal - pretty much as much as any DSLR. Buy this camera and master it before you sink thousands into a premium DSLR.
