  • With this, Weezer and The Beach Boys have certainly been referenced in some way in more videos than any other artist. Which one of them will pull ahead of the other? Will The Replacements swoop in and take the lead instead? Maybe someone else? Who knows! Find out on the next episode!
Oh yeah and this is a video where I talk about albums that are lost, unfinished, unreleased, etc. because it seemed interesting.

Really digging your videos (gotta appreciate the love for the Beach Boys in this one). Your musical journey discussed in the Easy Intro to Japanese Music video eerily mirrored my own. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic video! As one of many Beach Boys fans, thank you for talking about Smile and especially Adult/Child! Not many people talk about that one compared to Smile, though I like the latter more. I truly think that had the production of Smile went flawlessly and Brian was able to produce his original vision and release the album in January of 1967 as planned, I think it could have been seen as America's equal to Sgt. Pepper's when that would release and one of the western worlds' crowning achievements. About where they would go after that is something I've thought of too and something that could be interpreted in thousands of ways and if I made a detailed timeline of how I think it would go, I'd be typing forever. It's quite sad that we can't go to this alternate timeline just to take a quick listen. Nevertheless, great video!

Beach Boys lore is so wild it's great, but don't forget Landlocked, Sweet Mountain, and Sweet Insanity! Which the first two debatably existed while Sweet Insanity had... Smart Girls... maybe it's best left forgotten.

awesome video, great seeing some of the albums talked about. I will say regarding Lifehouse that the intent for the album was that the songs could stand on their own as Individual tracks that could be listened to and enjoyed out of context in response to Tommy which was full of short interludes to explain the plot. That’s why Who’s Next works as well as it does despite being 99% Lifehouse outtakes, the songs work on their own, whereas you couldn’t release an album of Tommy tracks as a separate thing because it would barely make sense. The actual story was meant to be explained in liner notes and the movie that never got made. Well, that and the insane transcendental religious experience Townshend was trying to pull off through synths and mysticism teachings. Crazy shit. Anyway great video, subbing

By the way I'd like to hear if there are any interesting cases of albums that I didn't include. I mean like I mentioned I know Prince has a ton of lost albums, I referenced the Household Objects project that Pink Floyd tried. Marvin Gaye has some stuff, and I actually wrote a section on Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg by The Clash but cut it because what I say on that vs. Combat Rock was pretty similar to what I say with The Who and Weezer (though with The Clash I think the best version of the record is probably a sweet spot somewhere between Rat Patrol and Combat Rock).
But yeah lmk. Especially any foreign language albums. Obviously any sources I looked at focused on NA/UK bands so I didn't find many outside of that besides Akina Nakamori and I just saw now there's an X Japan album that would fit too, but surely there's more.

Wow Smile right out the gate. It's the only one that I'm really mad never came out. That and the Police stopping work on a followup to Synchronicity because Stewart Copeland broke his shoulder playing polo and couldn't drum (and they hated each other and Sting was out the door anyway).

The big lost album for me is The Paper Kingdom by MCR. People have said it was way darker, and while I would love that, I'm not sure it's what we needed. They were going through shit behind the scenes and Gerard said he felt pressured take a darker tone to please the fans who didn't like danger days. That's probably not so great because that isn't a good reason to make a record, and also the world just didn't need that.
They did break up, but things are happening again. They've released a new song and went on tour, and there are *vauge* hints of a new album. Things seem set for a new era. I doubt that would have happened if The Paper Kingdom was released
