I wish I could say it was my idea, but it isn't. I think Bruce and Darren both use a paint tray, and I believe that's where I got the idea. It's just a compilation of everything that I liked about other meters. Thanks for stopping in.
Hey thanks for the shout out. I wish I had thought of that paint tray when I made mine. It would have solved that slope problem a lot easier. I think I used some kind of cake or bread pan. Looks like you worked til dark. lol You might have trouble without the slope on it with too much shadow hitting the inside of your box. I know mine I still had that issue even with that sloped top. I'm anxious to see how it turns out.
That paint tray seems to have worked good. Of course we had a windy day today and it knocked the plexiglass off, so the heating stopped when that happened. I need to hurry and make a frame for the plexiglass so I can hinge and latch it. I also went ahead and painted the inside black. Still too early to tell since it didn't stay on a full day, but it did melt and filter about half of it before that happened. LOL. Yes, I worked until dark. Seems like that's the only way I can get any bee stuff done since I have that day job interfering with the fun stuff. Thanks for stopping in and commenting!
@@leonunlimited7552 thanks for watching. I hope to post a progress video tonight which means it will hopefully upload by tomorrow (slow internet). Overall though, I am very pleased. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Hey @Larimore Farms, I just wanted to let you know I just watched your latest video and wanted to say that your phone is doing great capturing everything. The picture was crystal clear . I even saw eggs in some of those cells. Comments were turned off on your video, so I just wanted to relay that to you. I thought the quality was great! Thanks for sharing.
I left a comment earlier but it didn't show up. I tell people all the time to find multiple uses for beekeeping equipment. So nice job brother. Mine worked okay without insulation but when I put the reflective insulation in it was much better. It even made it faster on cloudy days to get the temps up. Good health and success friend 👍 God bless
Hey Houston! Right on brother. I've kind of neglected mine the past few weeks. I still need to work on some mods to bring up the temp in that lower chamber. Trying to keep it between 145-170 which is the temp wax melts at and the temp it scorches at. I'm not far off, since when I check it right now on a hot day it's 120 down there. So I'm hopeful I can get it dialed in to where it will flow, but won't get past the 170 F mark. So far it's just painted black down there, so I've got a lot of options. Just trying little by little so I don't over do it. Thanks for watching and commenting. God Bless! Edit: Man Houston, I just noticed it says you left that comment 2 weeks ago! I just now got it today. Not sure what's going on, but I appreciate you watching and commenting, and am 100% positive that wasn't showing up before today. I apologize for whatever happened. As always, thanks for stopping in and commenting!
@@TexasBeekeeper no worries UA-cam is weird like that LoL. When I couldn't get the comment to show I just typed it again. But that was a while back you can see that the other comment that I left was almost identical. But thanks for answering it twice LoL. Good health and God bless my friend
Great job man. I'm constantly preaching for people to find multiple uses for the equipment in the apiary. Mine worked well without the insulation, but when I added the reflective insulation to it. It made all the difference in how efficient it was. Now even on cloudy days it doesn't take much time to get up to temperature. Wishing you much success friend 👍, good health and God bless Texas Beekeeper
Thanks Houston! Yes sir, I had these medium boxes laying around that I wasn't going to use otherwise, so definitely good to put them to good use. I've got the reflectix ready to go in case it needs it. Thanks for watching and commenting brother!
@@TexasBeekeeper the only reason I waited on the extra insulation was I hadn't found any when I first put it together. Then I found that roll in a dumpster and put it in straight away LoL 👍 thanks
Hey Brad, thanks. I hope it works out ok. We've been mostly overcast today so far, but looks like the sun is out now so hopefully it will do the trick. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
I'll bet it would work great. Sure beats buying parts if you already have them laying around. I look forward to hearing how it works out for you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
If you wanna go nuts about it I've seen a video where you can make a simple solar tracker. Hook it up to an electric motor and it will keep the melter facing the sun :D
Lol. Hey Alex, I've seen that too. Its a neat idea for sure, but I don't think we would need that in Texas except maybe in February. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I like the design, I think if the interior of the wax area is black it will heat more efficiently, think I'll have to make me one next year lol not much need atm:-) A black plastic paint tray might work better it would absorb more of the heat, while the shiny will reflect back out out glass top. Ty much Texas, I like the use of existing boxes makes it very users friendly. Listen to the Lord, He was a carpenter, He gots the best build advises.
Looking forward to more videos

Great tip on the paint tray! Thanks for the sharing your method. A solar wax melter makes processing beeswax SO much easier and faster.

I like the simplicity. I could probably use it for a couple weeks here in oregon.

I would think that a piece of glass would be just as cheap and will never yellow. Or am I wrong???
Hi Renee, you are correct. Glass would work perfectly fine and would never yellow.
Why don't you try female pantyhose for a filter. Love your idea.
I haven't thought of that, but I bet it would work!
