Amanda, at Itoya you didn't see many pens because they have two buildings the one you went into was a paper and cards store. There is another Itoya building behind that one its main focus is pens, pencils and regular notebooks such as bullet journals. Next time you go remember to go behind, trust me it's worth it. (please like this comment so she sees)

Yes this is true!! but don't feel too bad because the although the notebook selection is pretty great, the pens and markers etc options are a lot more limited than Tokyu Hands and Loft etc., (I work in Ginza so I walk past the itoya everyday). If you ever have a chance to visit Japan again there are also a ton of other really amazing places to get stationery and art supplies (so dangerous haha)

Fun fact; My husband and I folded 1000 paper cranes for our wedding and used them as center pieces on the tables instead of flowers. So pretty and a forever keepsake

I’m Japanese and I think the second notebook (cherry blossoms one) is ご朱印帳(Gosyuin-cho), which is not basically a notebook you write on. Gosyuin-cho is basically a stamp book. You go to shrines and temples and collect the stamps.

The last time I went to Japan, I wasn't into bullet journalling as much as I am now. Going back again next year and I'm definitely planning my "to buy" list starting from now. Wouldn't want to waste another chance to go all out for stationery shopping hehe. Thank you so much for this!

@@poppirubenson6428 well.. in my case i plan to stay for about a month or so. I plan to go to most of the region except for hokkaido, okinawa and kyushu. I saved about 5k-6k us dollars maybe save more in case i have the urge to splurge. I do want to go on a budget for most of the trip

I didn't even get to buy any stationery when I was in Japan! Just went to a store and bought a doll (I was 6 at the time), visited my grandma and celebrated my birthday there (we were in Okinawa, my dad went to Tokyo a lot of times already) probably I'll be living in Japan next school year and buying a bunch of stationery (if my dad allows me)

I love the pilot juice pens, they were a gift and they're what really got me into stationery! they're not my favorite gel pens, but they sparked my love for gel pens and stationery altogether, so they have a special place in my heart!

hey amanda, that "notebook" at 6:38 is actually a "goshuincho," which is a holy book that japanese people use to collect seals at temples and shrines. you should probably not use it for art. just wanted to let you know!

Itoya actually has two separate stores in Ginza! The one you went to was probably their more high end and stationery focused store with more traditional Japanese things. The other store a few minutes away has all the art supplies and pens, including a huge selection of paints etc. That store is the one with all the stationery brands like Mildliner, Zebra, Copic, Posca, Pentel etc. That store was one of my favorites out of the many art stores I went to.
You were so shocked when you found out that you got a calligraphy pen! It is so nice and beautiful

I love the Pilot Juice pastel pens. The ink looks like it's floating on bright white paper. So good!
U can use washi papers like washi tapes. That's why I like it. They don't need too much space to store :)
I'm so glad you found all the Mildliners! I was lucky enough to get the entire collection with all the colors at Costco one, two, oR tHrEe, years ago.

Hello from Dallas. What an interesting video. My mom was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. She loved every minute of it. Even at 86, 65 years later, she can still speak a lot of Japanese.

I found you and so glad I did. You are an adorable young lady and I enjoyed your excitement about all the treasures you discovered! I love the Pilot Frixion pens because they are erasable and come in beautiful colors. I used them when I was working so I could keep a nice neat legible calendar. I had 30 clients and appointments changed all the time. I can’t stand a messy calendar! I know this comment is super late, but the washi origami paper around the eight minute mark is very cool! If I remember correctly, washi paper is actually made from mulberry tree pulp- it gets softer over time, instead of more brittle, and it’s naturally acid free making it archival quality- really great if you want to keep a special piece of origami for a long time (if you ever find a notebook made of washi paper grab it because it assures your your artwork/writing will last forever)!

I enjoyed watching your haul and it gives me ideas for the next time I return to Japan. The accordion notebook you picked up can be used for art but most commonly used for Goshuinchou. My husband and I each have our own. When you visit a temple there will be a little office area where a monk will hand write the name of the temple and date using traditional calligraphy and stamp their seal - it's used to trace your temple journey through Japan.

Watching you geek out over all the stuff you bought is the best thing on the internet today. And I completely get you. I lived in Japan for 6 years and spent SO much money on stationery its ridiculous. For years, I've had dreams of going to the stationery section of the local Japanese department store and discovering cute pencil cases, pens, pencils and writing paper. And thanks to the internet, I don't have to go to Japan to get the cute stuff I want. (Just a little pronunciation hint: Ghibli is pronounced jib-lee, soft J sound.) I have the same Totoro stamp, that I bought at the Ghibli Museum last year when I took my then 9 year old daughter to Japan. Cant wait to see ALL the things you bought. I love your videos, BTW.

i've so into stationary for so long that the idea of the Clickart pens being markers didn't phase me. it wasn't until a classmate asked to borrow a pen that it hit me that its not that common. must say, her mind was blown when she used it. 🤣
I went to shibuya’s tokyu hands and I also went crazy hehe. I also took the clickart set! I love them!,
By the way, the zigzag notebook is typically used in budism to get the stamps inside the temples.

I don't know if you already know at this time but just in case, Washi Origami means that it's made from washi. Washi is actually one type of paper and the kanji of "wa" stands for Japanese and "shi" stands for paper. So I guess the one you've bought in Itoya was pretty expensive than normal Origami.
Also the word "washi" is used for washi tape but actually most of them are not made of "actual" washi😂 So in Japan we often use the words "masking tape" instead.
And no need to say but I really enjoyed this video since there were some pens that I didn't even know😂Thanks so much for the wonderful video!!
