Amen! We had a few boxes of jars get broken in a move about 7 years ago and having to replace them was so difficult. Glad you are past the hard part!

In Europe we pay about 2.5 to 4.50 per jar. You guys are blessed to have such cheap jars.

We just opened a jar of homegrown and home canned green beans from 2014 to go with supper tonight. Delicious! And they look exactly like the ones canned last year (2021). Great information on canned goods! -Tom & LeeAnn

Yes! Love it! We have a ton of jellies and apple butters left over from about 2012 (we don’t eat sugar as often as the canned veggies) and we will steadily work our way through them until they are gone! 🙌🙌

Haha, for sure they do! I kinda lump that in with nutrition, but it's a very fair point!

Hello from Arkansas, where I do a lot of gardening & canning .... I hope your next video will be how to can dry beans, as in black beans and kidney beans. In the past I haven't had much success as they all became mushy. I have the dry beans and I need to get them canned. Thanks a lot for your videos and all your information.

Also a big commercial company think Walmart etc....not Walmart when they want a certain tomato and they run out they will put any name on it that the store wants... was not Walmart...you are not in these farms and factories ect...and know what is going on...they sling organic on it and charge you more :)....maybe not always but, it is going on.

This is a great video, Victoria. Thank you for sharing it. I live in South Australia where our ancient soil is not fertile at all. We live on 3 1/2 acres with at least a dozen kangaroos, possums, and other wildlife competing for our food. Thankfully, they normally leave a little for us, even if it has a few bites taken out. Any recommendations about pest-proofing your garden?

Hello from Texas! I don't know about kangaroos, but the larger wildlife here HATES the smell of humans. So we generally pee around the garden, lol! And by "we" I mean the boys in the family. You can either do that directly on the area, or collect it and then stray it... I prefer not having to handle it, so we use the direct application method... just pee around the garden parameter and it usually does the trick!

    Growing anything is not cheap,

    • @AModernHomestead
      @AModernHomestead  2 роки тому +1

It sure can be expensive, depending on how you do it! We spend about $50-150 per year to grow about 3500-5000 pounds of food from our garden

My family have no issues with store bought canned vegetables. Why? We can't grow nor can every vegetable we want. More importantly, aren't any including commercially canned vegetables still far superior in quality and nutrients than what a fast food restaurant has to offer?

Well where I come from bugs....birds...squirrels...rats...ect. maybe get into the garden.
SO I would not knock buying canned foods....it is not gonna be cheaper to grow your own food...then can it.
Worms...caterpillars all kinds of stuff...everything wants the garden.

  • @citizenx6370

Alot of false information in your youtube video...just saying...one thing you can do is when you get vegetables from the grocery store do a vinegar/water bath for awhile and clean any pesticides that might be on there...never cut into a water melon or cantelope without cleaning the outside.
What people should be worried about is about GMO and Round up. ect.
and if you think you ain't being like to when they stick an organic sticker on there well I don't know what to say.

Coming from a family farmer background....where we used to do it and I know what I am talking about....trust me....then you talk of going to the farmer market and buying and canning...you don't know what is going into that food...my Aunt is in her 80's and has scene personally where they say it's organic...a couple of rows and then rows of lots of the other vegetables. It's a JOKE!!!!
