Christmas Faffing - Mercedes W123 and Crown Vic action
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- It's been a while since the Mercedes W123 drove into the garage, and side the Crown Vic's hidden rust was found. Over Christmas the plan is to get the W123 out and fix the brakes. Let's see how that goes....

😂… I think you need to ask your neighbour if he wants to swap his adjoining garage for a Furious Driving Hat and Mug!!!😊
Matt lives in the South East of England. His neighbour’s garage is probably worth as much as a whole terraced house up in the opposite corner of England (Cumbria) where I live.
I'm sure if he threw in a sticker on top then they'll be powerless to resist 😅
@@BungleBare ok ok point taken… 3 mugs, 2 hats… and a T-Shirt!!!🤓
@@BungleBare A garage sold in Kensington last year for a £ million plus.
I haven’t been subscribed long enough to see either the W123 or Crown Vic in action, so it was great to see even an attempted start. I’m sure next time will be a winner!
Love the Alfa Romeo sign in the garage!
All the best for 2024, may your channel go from strength to strength Matt. I can't remember a dry day up here in the North West of England, so i don't know how anyone is getting jobs done outside.
W123 pump doesnt run until cranking so youll never hear it. You can temp remove the relay and short pins to run pump.
Its nice to see fbe W123 again! I'm excited to see it back proper!
Echoing the comment by Victoriasmith8229, check your fuel pump relay. On your Volvo 740, which has the same K-Jet system, the fuel pump relay would be the number one suspect in this situation. On the Volvo there are two pumps, an in-tank lift pump, and the main underfloor pump next to the fuel filter. If the W123 is the same, you want to check both for operation: you should be able to bridge terminals at the socket for the relay to check whether the pumps are working. If the pumps are in working order when you test them but aren't operating when you try to start the car, the relay is the obvious culprit. Good luck with it!
There was much faffing there, and I do like a good faff now and again.
It was lovely to see the Mercedes again, and to hear the distinctive tones of the Crown Victoria.
Have a happy New Year Mart❤.
I really liked the video because of the comical aspect of the situation and it made me think about this: - there are cars that are just the right size, such as the Rover P6 (which in my humble opinion deserves to be kept in the garage) and there are others that are a true oversize, which are ideal for always being on the move (like taxis for example, or police vehicles), or for people who have barns or warehouses, where there is no shortage of space. The problem that is consolidating is that almost all brands are oversizing their cars and on any given day, not even a simple utility vehicle can reasonably fit into a garage designed more than 30 years ago. Keep simple, keep small 😉
Here Here
Glad I'm not your neighbour.what a mess .. looks like a scrap yard
Perhaps the problem with the 123 is the fuel pump relay?
My old e21 Bmmer had K-jetronic injection as well.. the fuel pump relay started intermittently failing and then completely packed up.
I think a lot of voltage goes through it.. my old one used to get really hot before I replaced it.
Good luck. 🤞
Love your videos.
Merry Christmas. 🎄🙂
The fuel pump relays are expensive all but impossible to source now. Remove it and bypass it with a jumper across pins 15 and 87, to get pump running.
@@bikeman123this is ok for testing but it's not a good idea to drive the car like that because the fuel pump wouldn't shut off in the case of an accident.
i would have left the 123 alone and finished the crown , great video
Ahhh at last the W123 lives to see another day. Thanks for awesome content over the year
This was realy a Furious HubNut episode!😂😂😂 I hope Christmas went better for you Matt! I wish you and your family a furious 2024! And hopefully see you in the 🆕 year with lots of Furious content! 👍🏻👍🏻🆙
If you buy a couple of lengths of compression spring around 25mm diameter it makes a cheap effective spanner tidy in the workshop draws.
Look on the bright side. You invented the word "engunktion". I'd consider that to be a good afternoon's work by itself!
Reminds me of when I had an Austin Maxi in my small tin garage, what a struggle that was.
Top quality Christmas faffage!
New Furious Channel idea. Furious Gymnastics with Matts Mercedes. 1,2,3 lift.... 😊
Thanks for another great year of content Matt! I've enjoyed them all. Bugger the W123 doesn't start, sounds indeed like a broken fuel pump. Happy new year and looking forward to all the content you make.
It shouldn't take too much more work to get your Crown Vic back on the road. Well done sorting out the rust problem. It's tons of work but worth it.
Another thoroughly enjoyable video👍
To many projects on the go. That much going on nothings getting done. Thin out the collection and focus on a few of the better cars.
Hubnuts garage is now looking tidier than yours 👍👍👍👍👍!!!! HORDERS rings a bell 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 with plenty of waffle !!!!!!
Your single garage would be good for the little mini restoration
As thousands of middle-aged men wheel out their best Roscoe.P.Coltrane impersonations🚗🚧👮
Glad the Crown Vic coming along nicely.
You have worked hard to save the Crown Victoria, most people would have given up at the test failure and phoned the local scrapyard. I know I would and I have been working on cars for over 40 years.
Happy New Year to you, too.Thank you for all these wonderful videos that educated and kept us entertained at the same time.See you next year!...
With the W123 it might be an idea to set up a temporary fuel supply under the bonnet, just so you can get it running and driving.
It's a pressurised injection system so that won't be possible. Best to hardwire the fuel pump to get it running up to pressure.
Loving the use of the tripod 🤣 fun video!
everything's a hammer. Or a prodder
I've said it before, a clear-out of a few cars at least is really needed to push some of these long-term projects down the road. I'd be stressed out of my mind with this many cars.
Matt thank you for a most entertaining year of kerfuffery. Roll on the next one.
Feel your pain Matt , I need to get a battery for my SD3 and give her a big service but will have to wait till the new year .
My Audi with K-jetronic doesn't initiate the fuel pump until the key is in the "start" position (i.e. it doesnt prime before the starter motor kicks in). Not sure if your Merc is the same. I would test whether you are getting voltage to the pump first, and try to rule out a wiring or relay issue. Wiring/connections on an old, unused car can get corroded quickly of course. Or you could (carefully) try a direct 12 volt supply to the pump terminals to see if you can hear it run. Good luck!
The pumps on all my old K-Jetronic Audi's were always noisy and obvious. At least on the Audi's there's also a tiny fuel filter on inlet to the system that's meant to be removed before delivery. Mine finally blocked at 175,000 miles, so much for PDIs.
@@iboswell yes, the fuel pump on mine is noisy and has been since it (the pump) was new. I think the small filter at the inlet to the fuel distributor was supposed to be removed at the first service. Mine was still there when I rebuilt the fuel distributor a few years back, at 37 years old (the car, not me 😆) and 120k miles!
yessiirr!! I was patiently waiting for an update on the W123!
Who else’s mind goes straight to Electric Six whenever a clay bar is mentioned?
Just me?
The CrownJewel THE Crown Vic😃 nice car! What a beastie😂
I have been watching this channel since 2020. In that same time I have seen older and newer car UA-camrs race beyond your subscription level. The reason I suspect is the lack of action and progress on various cars and too many vids like this one where nothing really happens.
It depends on other channels niche factor, I tend to see channels that focus on Modified cars zoom to the thousands because that's what people like watching. Not necessarily the lack of progress but that doesn't help.
Nice Fast Show “black” reference 😊. Good Faffing video, shame the 123 wasn’t starting but hopefully the new fuel pump will fix it.
Garage Tetris and Mercedes Yoga... 😂😂😂
Happy New Year Matt, looking forward to much more of this in 2024!
Happy new year to you too!
I love the mercedes w123 can't wait to see this done back up to a good standard love this car hopefully u get a garage bigger for this car and the other cars
Happy new year to you and your family Matt, and I agree, some of the colours the sky has been going are great, 👍🏴
Yeah at last some Mercedes fun
Matt the car will only start in park, I had that with my 230 S124. You could also try pushing the red button to prime the fuel and see if that makes it run.
Please do a wet grass ABS test, wheels and under bonnet mike.
Check the fuel pump fuse and relay first. It's likely they're at fault rather than the pump itself.
I recognize your garage situation all too well.
Great little faffing video Matt, that's a pain about the Merc, I actually thought we could have seen it move under its own steam out the garage.
Hope you had a good Christmas, ours was a nice quiet day just the four of us.
The trials of a standard UK garage, at least one of the houses I lived in had an almost quadruple one at 18 ft by 30 ft. Only problem was a previous owner had put the inspection pit in the center almost, it was good being 18 ft long, but not good in that it flooded when the water table rose in winter. Only to a depth of about a foot at the worst but not fun searching for a dropped tool or part in the mucky oily water when I couldn't be bothered to pump it out.
imagine trying to get a new full size SUV in one!
@@furiousdriving A climb through the boot job and as for shutting the garage door if tall enough to fit through to begin with?
Give the pump a tap 💪
Im not sure if you're Bo or Luke Duke. But either way, hats off to you for getting through that open window! 👏
Oh and as for the piddling Rain. get a Souwester. (Rain Coat).
You are pondering how to remove rust from your mk2 classic mini.
Watch Ed China's latest video on the 1986 Range Rover. He just submerged the chassis in a pool filled with 2000 litres of Evaporust!
I saw that, the paint and underseal are more my issue at the moment
Brit watching at 2am in the Philippines.Advance Happy New Year Matt..great channel .
Great Video, Matt 😊 Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas 🎄🎁
Fear Not.
Furious Shall go to the Ball
Keeping saying, time to move it on. They are not rare and you could make better use of the space, effort, time, etc etc etc
Adverts in between adverts, might as well faff about then.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, he can get anywhere a battery can 😂 lucky your so agile Matt 😁, if it was me the W123 would still be there next Christmas but a great incentive not to get fat at this time of year for you 😉👌🏻.
furious faffing. Happy New year to you, Hope you had a good Christmas
Quality entertainment 👍
I couldn’t exist if my life was such a muddle A place for everything, and everything in its place.
That roof will be on in notime. at least the boots of the merc and yank tank will swallow loads of clutter 😊
Thanks Matt, my wife accepts that my garage is marginally tidier than yours! She has emphasised the word marginally.
Matt, you appear to have a 1970s car parked in a garage built in the 1990s to what were standard car sizes in the 1950s. 😁👍
Yipee I'm here again.
Shame of the abundancy of advertising…..
Another great video even if it was faffing If you had a pound for every time you get the unexpected results you would be a very rich man anyways Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Mrs Furious best wishes Andy Allen
I always heard the k-tronic fuel systems will give issues if allowed to sit unused too not sure in what way though.
The merc doesnt want to leave the garage again, have you started putting roofing sheets on the car port ? Happy new year to you and the family.
faffing a-plenty .. in my experience with a large immobile car in a small garage , a Freelander 1 & a strap are ideal to drag the car out , much easier than dukes of hazzard style
easy to get it out that way, less so if it has to go back in!
Hi Matt,
Firstly, thanks for another year of great videos!
My NY resolution is to get my car insurances in ship-shape order. I have a small fleet compared with yourself with 4 80’s/90’s cars and wonder if you have any advice you could share please with regards to obtaining cover?
Although on a smaller scale, like yourself, the cars are sometimes on and sometimes off-road due to on-going maintenance/improvements/projects. Do you have any tips for obtaining fixable car cover to facilitate this rather than insuring all cars for on the road all the time? If you do, then might be a good topic to mention in one of your vids, as I am sure there are also others like me who would be interested in your thoughts.
Happy NY and keep up the good work!
Thanks, Daz
phone around the classic insurers like Lancaster, Adrian Flux, Hagerty and ask about group or multi car policies, they have departments for the odd balls to talk to! They offer off road cover but the admin fees to make changes (£15-50) mean its only worth doing if its a long term change
Happy New Year!
Nice video
Furious Driving, idriveaclassic and hubnut present...... The rusty nuts podcast.🤨😄
I would really consider welding up some car ramps for that garage... Have the 123 sit on them, sure, ramps are the worst, just behind The worst, which is the scissors lift... They negate the ability to work on suspension or brakes for the most part, but fucking hell if they don`t beat not being able to work on a car at all due to the damned rain... I would go with ramps, because they generally do the same thing, but you can weld them up from scrap for pennies, and they can hold up a tank, let alone a car, if made beefy enough...
Brake cleaner will do in place of easy start just to see if you have a spark.
Just wondering if you have been able to watch Seaside Garage's video on getting the Saab with K jetronic working and how it works ?
I havnt yet, but having taken this all apart have a good idea about it now
20:11 .......... No it's definitely just a very very dark blue.......
Why the hell don’t you move all that crap out first and then install the battery FFS!
would it not have been easier to use the big v8 tractor to gently pull the merc out of the dump i mean garage
5:33 Nope. That is the LIDL one. I know, because I have the same one. :p
Don’t tell their PR departments, but I can’t tell Lidl and Aldi apart!
I wonder if the ethanol is killing pumps?
It can’t help but I only use V Power or other low ethanol in this
Yay
Of course it’s great to manoeuvre and drive, it’s got a proper auto-box….😂
well you say that...
@@furiousdriving LOL…
Happy New Year to you… 🍻
V8 noise, yummy.
I might be the only one starting to dislike the Merc vids. I'ld rather see progress on the old Mini or the Crown vic.
Just as a counter argument for all the people wanting to see this.
Don't get me wrong the vid is still good (and a thumbs up), just don't like the subject anymore :)
Could just be a faulty fuel relay. Why don't you just hotwire the fuel pump?
That Top Don kit is great - seen so many UA-camrs use various versatile models
Hello, I'm Eden, nice to meet you
I have a Seat Leon FR 2018

I am interested in doing stage 3 without an engine upgrade
I want to keep "close" in stock
Just change to a more powerful turbo than the original
I wanted your help to recommend me a turbo that would fit me with this particular engine

13 minutes trying to get to the car.....
matt, i noticed on the vic your r/h reverse light is out.
thats a fog light now
@@furiousdriving ahhhh!
Sparkalators? Have you been watching Vice Grip garage again?
Now, If Mrs Furious is in a good mood a wee bit of assistance would be nice. Transfer ownership of the W123 and the Rover to her and inform her that she needs to move them. Make sure your Life insurance is fully paid up mind.🤣. As for the roof 40 MPH winds is only a minor inconvenience Man up. All in all "xmas holidays and all that" get yer feet up and get a wee glass of something wet and alcoholic. Yee've earned a wee break. Cars will still be there after New Year. Just Sayin'. 🤣🤣🤣
was it a film or tv work which would of paid for the crown vic?
I don’t know, just filming
Do you have height in the garage for a small mezzanine crawl space for storage?
It would need the rafters raising, theres a sort of loft
Do you need to press the brake to start?
not at this age
What is the Point, 25 mins nothing done.
Buys new battery. Proceeds to batter it unconscious trying to start dead car. Or was it just resting ?
Could have used brake cleaner
