    Shane and Hannah my husband is an airline pilot and flies for Delta. Each time you have had a difficult flying situation I always pause Your video and talk to him about your experiences flying.....he keeps saying, tell Shane and Hannah to fly Delta.....we treat our passengers with great care! I’m happy to see that you had a better experience and you were flying Delta! He’s a Captain on the 737 and a very considerate/sweet bald man.. His name is Rand and he would love to meet you! He said that if he could talk to Shane he would explain the logistics as to why he can’t fly sitting in his own comfortable wheelchair. Your friends!

      Vicki Averett The majority of people in wheelchairs do NOT want to stay in their chairs. Shane's opinion is his own and does not reflect the wheelchair community, at large. Let your husband know that we would like better trained personnel to make getting on and off the plane less stressful. I will say, things are improving.

      Bobbi Young kinda bitchy if you ask me. It’s not his fault. Obviously he checked the bus before departure and I’m sure the lift was working sometimes things go wrong and you can’t help it I thought it was very rude to get upset with the driver. Not a good look made her look bad. Instead of waiting so longing they should’ve made arrangements right away instead of just sitting there complaining.

      @@desaraebarber881 they had arraignments, the bus that had a broken lift was their arraignment, it wasnt just that bus either, apparently all of their buses had a lift problem. "Obviously" if they would regularly check the lifts, like they are supposed to, it would have been addressed before this inconvenient situation unraveled.
      Hanna is really good about calling in advance and asking about wheelchair accessibility. This isn't a situation where they failed to do their part, it's a situation where companies and their employees fail to do their jobs. They paid for a service, like everyone else, and they are entitled to the same treatment and services as anyone else.

      He explained but not once did anyone apologize or offer to help them find a solution. The family paid for a reservation, 2 non-inspected buses had an issue then after waiting almost 2 Hours they were basically told "can't happen, figure it out yourself". In my state, buses or trains can't leave the station without completing&submitting a check list inspection! If not done the driver could be reprimanded or fired if it's a recurring issue. The cab wasn't recommended at any point until they had already waited so long and called twice. Other companies have SLAs of not letting the customer wait beyond a certain threshold, to have a quick TAT so the person has the best experience. Candidly, if the family pressed more they would be due reparations for the company insisting to have them wait outside in the elements with no seating. Paying for their cab is bare minimum reparation and doesn't undo the horrible time they had, time wasted, any engagements they could have missed and worst scenario any medical deadlines (like having medication at home or at a facility). The driver should have said Call in as soon as they knew it was broken(or he or the 2nd person should have called), then CS should have issued a cab right then. If I had a bus driver basically tell me "Welp can't help you disabled folks so just wait"*walks away* 'for how long?' "call and figure it out" Yeah I'd have a disappointed frown. Promise I'm not a Karen(Neither was the mom!), this is a legitimate business expectation held in many companies. Imagine waiting 2 hours for dinner you paid for in advance then to be told "uhh we cant make your food.. Call corporate for help" *walks away*

      The bus driver had a crowd of people on the bus wanting to get home, and had a job to do. He isn’t the engineer of the bus, and he couldn’t do anything, it wasn’t his fault. Imagine you just landed from a long flight to LAX, hopped on the bus and you had to wait two hours sitting on a bus because the wheel chair ramp was broken. The bus driver couldn’t do anything to fix it obviously, so what are they supposed to do.
      He woke up that morning to go do his job, he had no idea he would het assigned to a bus with a broken ramp.

    It seems from watching your videos, the airlines are learning about accessibility! This airline definitely stepped it up on helping and making it smooth! Keep it up you two!

    • @KristineNapper
      @KristineNapper 5 років тому +6

      Not to be super-negative.... But the problem isn't the airports needing to learn. They're not stupid; they know. The problem is they need to be held accountable. Currently, they don't legally have to provide better service than the nightmare they put wheelchair users through every single day. But since this channel exists, there's a higher level of service when Shane flies. The education needs to be directed at lawmakers, so the rest of us can enjoy a more accessible travel experience.

    • @mindyvaughn8217
      @mindyvaughn8217 5 років тому

      Kristine Napper Yes I think this was better possibly because this airline knew who was flying and they had been made aware previously of the terrible flight situations that Shane had been through on earlier flights. But it has to start somewhere.
      I think if enough of Shane’s followers could be notified prior to him using some mode of transportation then we could make enough noise with those agencies to insure a smooth situation.💖 And then eventually that would make all these different companies realize how important it is the provide great service to individuals in wheelchairs.

    • @KristineNapper
      @KristineNapper 5 років тому +1

      Yes... Can we take that energy, though, and amp it up a little? Let's take that pressure from Shane's giant audience, and direct it toward broader, more systematic change? Not just pressure for good experiences for one high profile customer? The airlines are already 100% aware that they provide extremely traumatic experiences every single day for disabled passengers. They're also 100% aware that they can get away with it. So they're 100% ok with keeping things the way they are. They'll put on a nice show when they know there are cameras with lots of viewers, but that's it. If Shane and Hannah's followers want to make a difference, they need to be pushing for legal mandates and accountability. Here's an organization pushing for REAL change, the kind of actions that would change many of our lives, for anybody who wants to learn more and/or get involved: www.allwheelsup.org/

    Good job, Delta! Thinking it should become a standard that all airports/ airlines have the flat for wheelchairs to be safely loaded onto planes- that was pretty neat! Also, that bus situation was the complete opposite and very ridiculous situation- glad y'all made it safely to your hotel at the end despite that. The hotel does look like it's going to be pretty cool!

    Hi Shane, Hannah and lovely Liz, the issue with the lift on the buses, happens almost daily on London’s Buses. I am so glad that you have highlighted this problem. It is so frustrating, all Ramps are supposed to be checked to make sure that they are in good working order. If they don’t work, the bus should not leave the Bus Garage. Thanks for your fantastic Video’s cannot wait for the next one xxxx

    I went through the EXACT same problem with Greyhound buses. Both the original and the 'replacement' bus destined to take me to San Antonio and Austin had wheelchair lifts that didn't work, so I never left my city of origin, much less my destination. It's a frustrating issue all around, and it's sad to see this happening so often. I'm glad they at least compensated you all for the cab.

    And it wasn't really nice that they paid for the cab. You had a reservation, they should have had accessible transportation there on time. Paying for transportation really late wasn't really nice, it was inconvenient and they least they could do.

    • @SquirmyandGrubs
      @SquirmyandGrubs  5 років тому +33

      True, but in a lot of accessibility-related situations, this kind of “fairness” doesn’t happen. If something is out of order, you’re often left to your own devices to come up with an alternative. We appreciated that they paid for the cab, but of course ideally their lifts would have been operational.

I love that you got a window seat to see your chair being loaded. It always helps in the event that it gets damaged. Delta is notorious for damaging wheelchairs....(speaking from experience) Shane your adapted seat on the flight looks so comfy! I may have to get details on that setup! I've been to the Florida Disney once. Had trouble with the bus in both directions. Going, we had to wait for 3 buses before they had one with a working lift. Then that bus driver decided my chair was "too heavy" for his lift and we had to wait for another one. The next one lifted me way up in the air to get on. My brother, who was with me, was freaking out. Here we were on bus #4 and they were lifting me that high? On the way back to airport, same issue. "Only" two buses though. I wrote a letter to Disney's disabled services whatever office and got a reply but it was essentially a form letter. Blah blah inspection every day blah blah sorry for the inconvenience blah blah rarely happens.

    You're a very loving couple. People are prone to say negative things when they themselves don't understand something in life. That's their lesson. Yours, is to keep teaching. But you're not going to reach everyone. That's just an unrealistic expectation. Can't save the world. But you can save your sanity and not let them bring you down. Keep spreading the joy you have in your life. You may not have reached them but you are reaching others and you're definitely making my day brighter when you make your videos. I suffer from MS and other health issues. My husband is healthy as a horse and people always have something to say about us. Keep on, keeping on Shane. My mom and I got stuck in London/Heathrow and Delta was the only airline that was courteous and helpful in getting us back home.
