- The Ever Given had departed
from the South Chinese port of Yantian
on 7 March for Rotterdam.
The ship is over 400 meters long, 59 meters wide, and weighs over 224,000 tons.
On board were 25 Indian crew members and thousands of containers, with an estimated value of 1 billion euros.
For unknown reasons, the Ever Given got stuck in the Suez Canal on March 23. The blockade created a real traffic jam behind the ship of hundreds of other ships. This led to major problems worldwide. Hundreds of ships had to wait in the canal until the ship was straightened. Other ships took a much longer route, via the Cape of Good Hope. Thanks to Boskalis from Papenrecht, the ship could be straightened again on 29 March and the blockade was lifted.
The Ever Given arrives in Rotterdam more than 4.5 months later than planned. After the blockade in the Suez Canal, the ship was chained for months. In the meantime, negotiations were underway between the Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen and the manager of the Suez Canal about the settlement of the damage. The ship was eventually able to continue on her way, after an advance of more than 500 million dollars was paid for the separation of the ship and repair of the waterway.
On Thursday 29 July, the unfortunate
container ship finally arrived in Port of Rotterdam
early in the morning
Prachtig schip 👍🏻
Loved that video thanks for posting, there was so much in it that makes we want to see more. Like those container carry units, never seen anything like them before, a video on the container port would be great,
I have sailed pass there a few times in my classic motor yacht built 1930 and used to help evacuate troops from the beaches of Dunkirk for 3 days and then stay on in the Royal Navy on mine patrol of the Thames Estuary.
Thanks again and stay safe.
Prachtige opnamen Theo, complimenten hoor. Ik ben later op de dag wel wezen kijken tijdens mijn dagje uit ha ha. De video gister op mijn kanaal gezet. Gr Jan
