IRM 70 for 70 Trolley Pageant: Over 70 Electric Trains in Motion

- On July 1st the Illinois Railway Museum held a 70 for 70 trolley pageant in honor of their 70th anniversary. The event featured a parade of 71 pieces of electric traction equipment (some of which hadn't run in 10 years) and one diesel. Rarely seen equipment ran such as the South Shore Line 803, Illinois Central electric Pullmans and Highliners, South Shore line car 1100, and more.
Extremely well done video that brings back many memories riding the electrics around Chicagoland growing up in the 1950's, 60's and beyond.
It's amazing to think IRM got it's start in North Chicago with a single Indiana Railways interurban in the late 1950's. What a story to tell and you've
done a great job. That's why I have recommended this video to nearly 75 fellow enthusiasts!

Hey - a four-car 4000-series train! They brought out a Baldie to go with the Plushies. Now that's what I call an Evanston Express! But where's the Green Hornet?
When there's action it's not possible to be everywhere. The Green Hornet preceded the three red Surface Lines cars early in the parade.
I wonder why there's no pole on the Baldie? Heck, if there's a pole on the Broad Street Subway car, they can put one on the Baldie. BTW, the BSS cars(as well as every pre-WWII subway car built for Philadelphia use) had the whistle on it...they weren't on just the pre-WWII Chicago L cars.
@@michaelgreene4748 That's a good question. The Baldies had bare steel roofs while the Plushies had canvas-covered wooden roofs.
@@michaelgreene4748 That rolled steel roof poses some challenges, which is why Chicago Rapid Transit never put poles on that series of cars. Also, that car is a lot farther from being operable than the other three, which will be crowd-swallowers over the next couple weekends with Thomas on the grounds.

Well done. Im glad I got to see the Little Joe and the GG1 roll by. I suppose the GG1 is not able to power itself? Back in beautiful Wisconsin now?
Yeah the GG1 doesn't have the ability to move itself. Does have a working air compressor, though! IIRC They have a second one for parts that might have working motors, its been a while since it was last seen so I'm not sure on that.
@@trashrabbit69 I wish they would make a copy of the GG1 shell and have the innards all modern but keep that GG1 look. It looks better than the engines they are using now.
