Thanks for the comments! Yes- It needed something at the end, and that seemed to fit. I used to play a good bit of the Toccata in Dm back around high school, which was great fun.
@@SteveOuimette Many thanks! I've been enjoying several of your videos over the last couple days. You are an incredible guitarist! I especially enjoyed Owner of a Lonely Heart. I was just getting into Yes when that tour was kicking off and was very lucky to have been able to help tear down their stage in Lititz, PA (my home town) the night before the big 90125 tour kicked off in Millersville. I've seen Trevor Rabin with them five times and never understood how he was able to get such sounds out of a Strat. Most of my videos are about keyboards, but I play some guitar in a few including Kashmir: ua-cam.com/video/_oQwr20WVd8/v-deo.html
@@TaurusTarkus Thank you for the kind words, I LOVE this song and solo! Trevor is a brilliant player and clearly knew what he was doing. Totally redefined Yes's sound back then. How cool that you were able to be a part of that during the beginning of that particular tour. History! I'll check out your page, thanks!
Thanks for your comments! I would like to do more videos with singers, but so far it has been difficult to schedule. Maybe in a few years when I will have more time.
@@TaurusTarkus You have a wonderful skill mate I look forward to hearing more of your work and will keep an ear open when you release your next composition or cover.
A fantastic interpretation of a heavy metal classic. I'm not sure how you prompted the voices at 1:06? Maybe at 1:03? Anyway very cool from start to finish
Thanks! (I thought your first/deleted comment was very funny.) The button that I touch turns the portamento/glide on and off. I frequently use volume pedals to control parts; you can see a good example of using two volume pedals for different parts in my cover of Inferno, where I show them at one point. But in this video I have the lower keyboard/Montage controlling the Prophet via MIDI. So I start with just the Hydrasynth bass and the Prophet Rev2 organ, and then I play the part on the Montage which gives you the Rev2 organ plus some Montage sampled organ and choir. This is also why I can activate the glide on either keyboard. Lots of fun!
Thanks! I LOVE Rush! The band I was in a few years ago were rehearsing Tom Sawyer, which was very fun. I also had the intro to Lazy by DP worked up at one point years ago but couldn't convince that particular group to do it. Perhaps I should work on that one again someday.
Cool! My knowledge of Ozzy-dom is not great, but this has prompted me to dig through the back catalogue … Also, my Rev2-KB-16 has landed!; now I just need the time to learn it well, lol. Thanks for this little nugget of inspiration … 😊 Be well! 😎👍🏼
Thanks! Congratulations; the Prophet Rev2 is a wonderful instrument. I would have been happy to have played this bass part on it if I had another one. Remember to check out those VCM patches/templates by Creative Spiral and have fun.
Cuando mi momento llegué, que sea esta intro de Mr Crowley la que me acompañe en mi camino al cielo, o de regreso hacia el infierno. En ambas opciones, suena genial!!
Thanks! That's a great idea! It's almost too short for a cover video... although Mr. Crowley is pretty short too, which is why I added to it a bit. I certainly would enjoy playing that and seeing what I could do with it.
@@jvidalw I would definitely want to do something with that part. I look for music that I can do 'ideally' better or at least different/interesting and close to the quality of the original... I could possibly do a better pipe organ and bass, but I couldn't get a bell that would sound that good! I may be able to get a creepy choir that wouldn't be as good, but still sufficiently sinister. We'll see; I had a switch at work, which isn't giving me much time for music.
Does anybody else keep looking at his right hand and briefly getting the illusion he has 6 fingers? Maybe I've just watched Princess Bride too recently
I struggled to get that effect as loud as I wanted it, and so I overdubbed it a bit to give it some more power. To play it live, it would perhaps be best to have another keyboard... or maybe with more time I could have figured out something. The effect is called Glide or Portamento, and you see me turning it on and off with my left hand. Glide is easier to get your head around with a monophonic keyboard. With a polyphonic instrument, it can act very different depending on the number of voices you are using and the number of notes you are playing. There are more settings on newer instruments like the Rev2: I have it on "Fixed Rate" rather than "Fixed Time." I also have slightly different Rates for different oscillators and possibly different layers. The Rev2 pipe organ patch uses both layers to get more tunings/stops. For the second part, I am controlling the Rev2 with the lower Montage (with added organ and choir) via MIDI, so I can do the same sweeps from either keyboard. I have the rates up close to max, around 124ish on a range of up to 127/8.
I'm blown away! This is even better than the original, so clean and crisp!
Thanks so much! It's a fun one to play.
the coolest keyboard intro EVER. period.
So cool and so original.
Sweet child in time also has a cool keyboard intro
Hands down! I could listen to that intro all day
Aghast. Mouth agape. I cannot lift my jaw from the floor. Maestro!
Thanks for some of the best comments ever!!

Love the nod to Bach's Toccata in Dm at the end. Fantastic all around!

@@TaurusTarkus Of course! Yeah, Bach was the king and what you did at the end was a nice touch to Don's already very Bach-like intro. So good!

How to get the choir-like harmony on the second time through the melody? What instrument and effects are you combining to form the angelic voices?
