this song is so intense, you really need to watch the live performance of this to get a full grasp of just how...talented and intense this is for him. These lyrics are amazing and hit hard.
17 seconds. That amount of time will always be in my head. 17 seconds of raw emotion. I remember in 2007 when I first heard this, I played it again and counted the seconds of that scream. In 50 years, I will still remember that number. 17 seconds.
Being an older fan, i prefer their older stuff like “In the End” and “Faint.” However, I think I’m going to suggest one of later songs. “One More Light” is a rather tragic and touching song. It was written with the “intention of sending love to those who lost someone,” so it’s rather heartbreaking hearing Chester sing these lyrics when he was someone who was going through the pain that he was going through. I’d recommend checking out one of the live performances of the song, as he was in the middle of dealing with the suicide of his friend Chris Cornell, as well as his own battles with depression. They are incredibly raw, and there’s a couple vocal lines that you don’t get in the studio version
for this song i always recommend watching the live performance in clarkson. its so much more intense than the studio version. he doesnt do the full duration scream there but you can see and feel his pain through the screen in that one
Thank you so much for this reaction. I would love for you to react to "The Little Things Give You Away" by Linkin Park, live at Milton Keynes in 2008. It's also off of "Minutes to Midnight" but very, very different from "Given Up", I think you'd dig it and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Doug I was a student of yours Music Theory 1 in KC somewhere around ~’09. One of the first assignments you gave us was to bring in a recording of one song that was compelling to us and share it with the class. I brought in Linkin Park’s In Pieces from that very same album. Good to see you exploring more good music ☺️
I definitely suggest looking into their fourth album, A Thousand Suns. If I were to pick one song, that would be The Catalyst, although this album is a conceptual one, so it's meant to be listened as a whole. Waiting For The End, When They Come For Me, Wretches And Kings, Blackout- they are all extremely interesting songs.
I’d say keep it going and pick one song from each album! A thousand suns is next and it’s a lot different and it explores new sounds for them! Check out “the catalyst” next!! Or honestly even the entire album needs a listen. But their records go into so many different directions! I think that would intrigue you!
Chester’s voice was truly one of a kind! I would definitely recommend checking out anything from hybrid theory, every song is amazing; I’d recommend My December if you want a different side of them
Doug, you should get in touch with Elizabeth Zharoff from The Charismatic Voice channel here on the UA-cams. She has been doing a screaming metal growling study with civilians and notable screamers/growlers in the industry to find out of there are psychological benefits, and if it can be done in a healthy way to protect the vocal instrument... for a bit of background if you don't know who she is, she is a former opera singer... she's done a ton of research
Go back and do half of the first album (my suggestions below), get familiar with the identity of the sound, and then do the same with the 2nd album. You will appreciate the changes and growth even more. Then when you come back to the 3rd album, where the experimenting really thrives, it will hit that much harder. Every album beyond that continues the exploration even further constantly extending and probing, honing and perfecting the identity. This is the journey I would suggest for you: [ Hybrid Theory ] - With You - Forgotten - Runaway - In The End - Pushing Me Away - [ Meteora ] - Somewhere I Belong - Faint - Breaking The Habit - From The Inside - [ Minutes To Midnight ] - Leave Out All The Rest - What I've Done - Shadow Of The Day - Valentine's Day - In Between - In Pieces - The Little Things Give You Away - Once you get through those, the 4th album gets very experimental and I think you'll really enjoy some of the directions they explore there.
This song along with pardon me by incubus were basically my anthem for a few years. Also I alternated between this album and black veil brides set the world on fire for a while
I think it would be interesting for you to watch them perform live even though I don't think you do that. Maybe Place For My Head - Live In Texas, audio quality is really good, but make sure to watch as well,
Chester’s performance on this song is iconic! Especially that 18 second scream! I know not everyone agrees, but their next album, A Thousand Suns, is an incredible concept album with the band pushing the limits of their sound even further. In my opinion it is their best work and the band firing on all cylinders. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with their first three albums either.
We miss you, Chester. I really need to listen to their later albums more. Hybrid Theory, Reanimation, Meteora, they're all the comfort zone and I need to spend more time out of it.
Unfortunately I really relate to this lyrics. By the way it is incredible how similar Doug looks to Lubomir Arsov who is also an artist. His last film ''KINGDOM'' relates to the song too.
I know... Its sad lyrics ... But this song is amazing the best music that chester ever sing in my opnion ... Yes its sad lyrics but is pure Chester art and soul in this song
Hi Doug, I don't normally request songs, but you did David Gilmours luck and strange rehearsal, However I would love to see what your take on his song Scattered, a wonderful Gilmour 3 solo melodic echos vibe music which isn't covered much on utube. I be interested to see what you think
Doug there are a lot of other good songs on this album in my opinion. The album mostly has a different sound from their prior albums (Given Up is more like prior albums) and a lot of fans said they were going too commercial. But I think you would appreciate what they put together on the rest of the album and the vocal range of Chester on those songs. The songs Leave Out All the Rest along with Shadow of the Day are really different sounds for the band.
Doug, i plead you to react to music from the game "Guilty Gear Strive", that soundtrack has some crazy fun variety with the music themes for the characters. For starters, i recommend you listen to "Smell of the Game" first and then you can decide whichever music theme for the characters you want to listen. Cheers!
I think you could take a look at to songs from LP: One Step Closer and Two Face. They've been claimed to be two similar versions from two diferent eras of Linkin Park and it's worth putting up this debate
One of their greatest. 17 seconds of pure emotion then straight back into singing. Keeping on this path and jumping to the next album, A Thousand Suns, you can hear Mike's dgaf attitude in one of my favorites: "When They Come for Me"
Love this band. The music is so catchy. Their creativity, angst and emotion in their music, Chester’s vocals, and their use of heavy riffs on the guitars and the hip hop type sounds. Great to see you checked more out
On one hand: yay more Doug+Linkin Park!!!!! On the other: oof, this is a sad one. So many of their songs are, but there's a few that hit harder, and I think this is one of them. In other news, Day 2 of asking Doug to listen to the metal band Sleep Token!
That legendary long screaming by Chester, have goosebumps every time! I would like to recommend Dimlim - Vanitas, another song with really long scream.
Apparently I've never heard this song before today. Glad to have been here for it. Hoping this helps someone or maybe me, but mostly someone else. Asking "what's wrong with me?", answers itself. I can only write it honestly, I tried dancing around it a few times, it's not working. Everyone will have a different answer because better is subjective, which makes right and wrong subjective. Like Obi-Wan said. "Good is a point of view". Pretty sure that's Confucius, not sure that matters. It's true. If I had a worst enemy, they'd be my best friend and my best enemy, would be my worst friend... I'd give up, but it's just so very interesting.
That song sounds emptier than their good old tracks, no synths, guitar tuning has no power, just the bass is good, for the rest it is just general skateboard music.
This song hurts to listen to, in retrospect. He was screaming his legitimate feelings for decades. RIP Chester :(
Yep. It’s wild how clear things became *after* we lost him.
Be sure to check out Rolling In The Deep Cover [Live from iTunes Festival 2011] - Linkin Park. A great performance by Chester. R.I.P.
Yes,that performance is soooo good😍
this song is so intense, you really need to watch the live performance of this to get a full grasp of just how...talented and intense this is for him. These lyrics are amazing and hit hard.

I think it’s sad how the new stuff was poorly received, and I can’t help wondering if that was related to his death
I’m not sure whether Minutes to Midnight classifies as “new” or “old” (or neither?) but it’s my favourite LP album followed by the debut.
one of my favorites from Linkin Park, it goes so deep now - RIP Chester
you should see him do it live. he does this shaking thing with his voice on the line "I hyperventilate" that's just PEAK.
“Screamissimo” might be my favorite word to describe a pitched scream. Wow 😂
for this song i always recommend watching the live performance in clarkson. its so much more intense than the studio version. he doesnt do the full duration scream there but you can see and feel his pain through the screen in that one
One of my gym jams. When Chester hits that 10-15 second scream, dude. I feel all of it.

Now there's a coincidence, I'm playing this one this weekend. Great song.
Missing you, Chester ❤

Check out "Waiting For the End"! It's beautiful, and I think you'd appreciate it
Chester's live performance is absolutely insane. What a true talent.

You have got to watch a live version of this song. Holy crap...
It used to be my favourite Linkin Park song back in 2017-2019
This song along with pardon me by incubus were basically my anthem for a few years. Also I alternated between this album and black veil brides set the world on fire for a while
Well, didn't expect LP here
Understandable, but like Doug says at the beginning of the video, it's not the first time on the channel.
Check out Hybrid Theory and Meteora both amazing albums.
I think it would be interesting for you to watch them perform live even though I don't think you do that. Maybe Place For My Head - Live In Texas, audio quality is really good, but make sure to watch as well,

The scream wr, done live and legit af
Gotta check out the live version of this song
Thank You Doug for this!

It a shame he passed away he had a powerful voice
There is some good newer stuff, but I think Hybrid Theory and Meteora are definitive.
I would highly recommend listening to the 'A Thousand Suns'...very underrated imo.
Unfortunately I really relate to this lyrics. By the way it is incredible how similar Doug looks to Lubomir Arsov who is also an artist. His last film ''KINGDOM'' relates to the song too.
Epic Sound 👏
I know... Its sad lyrics ... But this song is amazing the best music that chester ever sing in my opnion ... Yes its sad lyrics but is pure Chester art and soul in this song
God bless Chester. He was an amazing talent gone far too soon.

Could you please give us your opinion of Jinjer Pisces and anything from the Warning.

Love to see it. RIPChester
I absolutly suggest to check "Phantom Liberty" song by Dawid Podsiało.
Can't tell you how excited I was to see this reviewed. Chester's howl is epic!
MORE LP, please. "In the End" and "Somewhere i Belong" need to be on the list.
On one hand: yay more Doug+Linkin Park!!!!!
On the other: oof, this is a sad one. So many of their songs are, but there's a few that hit harder, and I think this is one of them.

That song sounds emptier than their good old tracks, no synths, guitar tuning has no power, just the bass is good, for the rest it is just general skateboard music.
Y'ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
