My drum teacher took lessons in your dad's store. Ray admired him greatly, I have heard as many stories about your dad as of Buddy. After all these years, it's good to see things about your dad coming out. Truly a great drummer and a part of drum history. 🥁🥁🥁
I knew ET pretty well, worked for him for quite a few years and while I saw him hit the drums a few times I never saw him really play. Thanks for posting this Don. I knew Bobby too.
I just can’t believe how great this video is.........I get to see Ellis play after all these years! I knew him well back in the early-70s when I was a young, struggling musician in Philly. Music City became a Mecca For Music for myself and most of my musician friends and Ellis helped me out with equipment a number of times when I was short of money. Needless to say, he’s someone I’ve never forgotten. Thanks for the wonderful video remembrance of a fabulous drummer and, even more so, a wonderful man.
Yea- I worked for Music City for many years- all 3 stores - Center City (when Chestnut was closed to traffic) Northeast and Cherry Hill- loved your Dad- as least to me he was always kind and understanding ( I was a full time musician )- I never met you ( Don) but have great stories about Bobby. Thanks for posting !
Donald--I stumbled on this and was so delighted. I worked with Ellis as a songwriter, visiting him at his offices at Music City in Cherry Hill. Great guy. Did some recording with Ronnie in his studio there. I think I still have one of those Rogers snares...
Yes, on "The Twist," with the incredible suspension hi hat cymbals and on "Let's Twist Again," where he reversed the roles of the hi hat and snare. Incredible.
Dad was one of the great jazz drummers of all time. He only played rock when he helped his buddies who owned Cameo Parkway Records to do studio work for them as they wanted the best drummer.

I hope he and mom are dancing to this in the spirit world!
AMAZING. Loved his beats going back to the days of the 50s and 60s. I'm going to save this!
Fabulous, thanks for posting

This is the drummer on 'The Twist'? That was some of the most driving rock drumming ever. I didn't know he was a jazzer too.

This guy is in a Clifford Brown record. Know how many drummers are in a Clifford Brown record?
