Hi there, Im the product developer for this camera. Glad you are enjoying it. At the moment the version of synapse available to the public is a version we used for internal testing. We have a new build being distributed globally from the 12th Jan till around the 14th (depending on location) that will feature the new UI/UX and features you see on the product page. Should also address the crashing you saw. Thanks for being an early adopter. One final note, try it in low light mode (even just your monitor lighting your face) Im hoping you will be impressed - designed it so that when people wanna stream and game in "sweaty gamer mode" they still can be visible without needing key lights (more for my own use case 😂😂)
i have this webcam and i love it, but can you guys please come out with a cord extender?! i want to put it in a better spot but the short cord is very limiting :/
I see, yeah the low light performance is super good. I definitely should have showed it off in this video, but I'll add more footage in some of my other comparison videos. Good to know about Synapse. I've never really had a good experience with that software even with the last Kiyo Pro and other Razer headsets and mics, but as long as it's being worked on, that's all I can ask for. All that said, the webcam is awesome, great job.
@@lab2gifted in my testing it will work with usb 3.0 extenders but if the cable struggles to provide sufficient power it may cause the camera to freeze. Will work with the team to see if we can make a running change to 2.0m in the box and make it available to customers through customer service (no promises) will comment back here if it’s possible.
@@SomBikes Incredible support, tell the team that your public comments sell cameras! The current Kiyo Pro is excellent, and when in HDR mode it's the best webcam I've ever seen. Best consistent performance across varied real world low-lighting scenarios. I hope we get lots more REAL lighting reviews on UA-cam, because most people don't have pro lighting!
OK so we have made it so that customer support will have 2.0m cables they can ship out to customers who purchased one of the first 3000 units and we have made a running change. (People should be able to reach out to customer support at the end of the month for new cables) Synapse update also has gone out.
bought it right now. As a videoproducer, im very picky with webcams and cameras in general. At the Moment im using a fullframe DSLM with a 14mm Lens with a capture card. It looks very good but its not really a handy solution. Additionally its way to expensive for a webcam setup, lul. This is the first webcam where i dont have to decide between quality and handyness. i just love it. Thanks so much for your reviews!
I have bought this webcam in a physical razer store, and I'm very impressed with the quality. Low light performance is excellent, way better than any Logitech or Aukey webcam I've used. I find the "shutter ring" very satisfying to operate, they nailed the feel of that. I will open a support case though because of the short cable. They apparently offer a longer cable if you ask them, so I'll try that.
Thanks, honestly I got fortunate with this one because Razer didn't send out many early review units to influencers like they usually do. Usually even when I buy stuff day 1, by the time I get it and finish my video, the sponsored videos have already been up for a week lol..
Best and likely the most honest review I've seen for a webcam yet. I really appreciate your "tell it like it is approach". I use both PC and Mac. My PC is company provided (and protected) so I use my Macbook for creative video production using ScreenFlow. I'm really wanting this RKPU Webcam, but the lack of OSX support gives me pause. I'm wanting a great lens for webcam and video production and curious if you would recommend the RKPU or something different? I'm doubtful I could load the Synapse software on my work PC due to corporate restrictions...so that's a hurdle also. Any advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
So I opted to try the Pro camera instead of the Ultra to test the software. I liked the camera, but not the buggy software. I certainly didn’t like the lack of support for iOS. After a week of giving it a solid chance, I’m sending it back and going with the ElGato 4K/60. So far I like it better from a control perspective, but the color needs work to get it accurate. If it wasn’t for the software, I would’ve upgraded to the Ultra. Thanks for your review as it helped me narrow the field down.
Phenomenal and honest review, brother! Can you make a follow up video showing the low light capabilities of this impressive aperture and sensor sized webcam?
I look forward to the side-by-side of the Insta360 Link and the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra. Glad you're enjoying your new webcam :) Do you know if this works plug-n-play on Chrome OS by chance? I also see the RKPU tracking / hunting when it ought not to be.
Great review. Im going to buy this camera. Please add a comment regarding on how much strain is put on the CPU & GPU when using the cam to stream. And how about strain when using 2 Razer cam (using OBS o Vmix) in the same computer? You got a new subscriber. Keep up the good work!!!
I have a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and an RX 5700 GPU. When using both the Kiyo Pro and Kiyo Pro Ultra at the same time (1080p 60 and 4K 30 respectively), CPU usage was around 13% and GPU usage was about 29% in OBS.
Good review brother. Unfortunately I bought the Elgato Facecam Pro. Now I'm thinking, should I get an RTX 3050 graphics card so I can utilize the blurred background with Camera Hub( $300 ) or buy the Razor.
If it was me, I'd try to sell the Facecam Pro and get the Kiyo Pro Ultra. Since the Facecam Pro has been out of stock since mid-November and Elgato has stated it probably won't come back in stock till February, you can probably get a decent price for it. Of course if you really need a new graphics card for other purposes, that's probably more important.
I have the latest version of Synapse and firmware. Haven't seen a crash yet. However Synapse is still buggy when changing the MJPEG compression for each resolution (it basically can't).
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Thanks. I watched the entire video or at least I thought I did. haha. Keep up the great work. I really found this vid to be helpful in me deciding between the Ultra and InstaLink.
So if you wanted to use this without the Synapse software could you? Personally I don't like the software, but if that is what makes or breaks being able to use this camera that is a deal breaker for me.
I am hoping someone can help me. I bought the Kiyo Pro Ultra because I am legally blind. I wan to use it to display small LED/LCD interfaces on various electronic devices on my 60" 4k monitor. So far it is working better than the other webcams I have tried, but I am needing to use Synapse to manually control just about every aspect of the camera. My problem is: I don't know what all the Synapse settings do and how they interact. The problem I am still having is to get the background black and the lighted pixzels bright and clear, I have to tweek the ISO, shutter speed, and auto focus. And turn off filtering. And, and , and. But the bright leds still overwhelm the less bright leds. Either the bright leds are in focus and the darker leds disappear, or the less bright leds are in focus and legible, but the bright leds are washed out and just a blob of bright light. Where can I learn about all the Synapse settings and how they interact? I am tired of guessing... Thanks for any pointers.
So I'm looking for a good camera for live streaming and youtube content. I'm on a tight budget so 300 USD for razer kiyo pro ultra fits in perfectly. I have to settle for a webcam as I cannot afford mirrorless cameras. Do you genuinely recommend this one, or is there something better out there I can get.
If you had to break it down into tiers of webcams based on price point tiers, what webcam would you recommend that's under $150? If I'm spending more than $125 or so for a webcam, I'd rather just use my Sony A6400. I'm looking for something that I can easily travel with though.
1. Nexigo N970P if you can find it for under $150. I think it's the best value webcam right now. 2. Logitech Brio. I've seen it as low as $125 lately. 3. Razer Kiyo Pro is down to under $95 depending on where you look, but it's not as good as the other two imo.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I really, really appreciate you taking the time to respond! That's helped me out a ton. Keep making videos like these. Thanks! Have you - or anyone - figured out how to manage the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra on a Mac? Their Synapse3 software only runs on Windows PCs and their Synapse2 software which does run on a Mac doesn't recognize the Ultra ...
I emailed the support from Camo (Reincubate), and they told me: "Yes, you can use the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra in Camo Studio" I believe the basic controls will all work for the webcam, and maybe no controls over the Modes and Compensation and so on... I'm waiting another reply from them with more details.
So, they said it will be supported by Camo Studio, but what is supported may not be the full spectrum of stuff that Synapse does... there's a page on the Reincubate website about device and platform compatibility they told me to check. Now I sent a message to Razer to see if I could visit one of their stores with my Mac to see if the webcam will interact well with Camo.
Hhmmm, I thought that I'd replied to this thread, but maybe it was another video? Or UA-cam "magic" that makes comments disappear ... In any case, I found that there's a "brew" cask called CameraControl that allows you to control the basic features of the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra - including the default Field of View which comes from the factory at 72˚ instead of the maximum 82˚ ...
In OBS, click properties on the webcam and pick 4K under the resolution. And make sure canvas is 4K too It's program dependent but regardless of the program, I always send the OBS virtual camera footage to other software anyway.

can this do vertical video like the insta 360 link? also, look like there's a fisheye effect... I know there's a "lens distortion compensation" button but doesn't look like it's not doing a good job
The Kiyo Pro Ultra image doesn't flip to vertical by default; you have to flip it in whatever software you're using. The Insta360 Link requires their software to use portrait mode. The lens distortion compensation works well imo, but the problem is it's reliant on Synapse being open to take effect. So it was off for almost all of the footage.
