    Great list, Anthony! I enjoyed playing around with my Porter Cable dovetail jig, but didn't find it practical for many projects for the reasons you mentioned. Big thanks for the notes on the Festool rapid clamp - that was on my list to try out, but I don't think I'll get it anymore.

    Agree totally on the Porter Cable and Kreg. The PC jig got shelved after one job. I'm still evaluating the Igooo Dowling Jig which is a Triton knockoff. Had to modify/add vertical alignment lines to improve accuracy and the dust collection is not bad.
    Been using the Shaper Orgin and Plate for dominos but will definitely get the Festool before the summer is over.

    Informative post as usual, Anthony. You just stopped me from buying that dovetail jig. I'm just a hobbyist and it looked like an interesting tool to buy, but I'll hold off on that one. I have and tried the Beadlock system but never liked it. It's gathering dust at the moment. Didn't know about the rapid clamp. I've got some Festool items in the shop, and like most of them, but they produce some duds too. Bought two of their Clamping ElemenTS and found them to be complete garbage. Thanks for posting. Mark

    Great video but I absolutely love the Festool rapid clamp. It really shines when I’m doing shelf pin holes using my LR32 system.

      @AnthonyScolaro1  Рік тому

      That was the real reason I bought it for the LR32 system when I make shelf pin holes, and no matter how I adjust the screw to make more holding pressure, it just doesn’t hold.

      You think maybe you purchased one that’s defective? Tools are funny like that I see some reviews good and bad on tools that I own and I totally disagree with them but Festool is way too expensive to have a hit or miss as I’m sure you’re very aware of but I can tell you that I own 2 rapid clamps and use them quite frequently and they have performed flawlessly. I used the ratchet style for a couple years but the rapid style is just that. Anthony try another one and see how that one works.

      @@mrmarkfive it’s quite possible but honestly I actually don’t need it because I really love my ratchet clamps. Even with the LR32 I don’t find the ratchet clamps to be a problem.

    Can I have your porter cable dovetail jig? I build cabinets. Just thought I’d ask…lol

    I have a dovetail jig....never used it. Not once.
    Moved to a pneumatic 6 inch sander with a mirka backing pad and even with 80 grit the wood looks like I sanded it with 120 or finer. Still have the cheap dewalt because I still have 5 inch sand paper...but both are collecting dust.
    But for me the biggest regretted is a drum sander. It was my first big purchase and for the amount I use it it's not worth it.

    You’re talented and you’re on your purpose. I just hope you go to this full time and get away from law enforcement if you haven’t already. The sky is the limit when you do your own thing and don’t slave for an employer.

    I 1000% about the dovetail jig I learned to cut them by hand faster than always setting it up lol and yea tht triton dowel tool sucks ..no pun intended.. the rocker beadlock system is a time waster too..

    Did one test and then never used the pc dovetail jig, or the 1/2" router I bought to go with it. :(

      @@AnthonyScolaro1 Definitely! Plus my wife had no particular love for dovetail drawers, so for all my kitchen cabinets I never used them. Did lots of drawers though, hidden and otherwise, as they are so much more useful than low shelves.

      I own a similar jig... Never used it. Read the manual and said sure one day... and that day never came and after 15 years doing this as a living....probably never will

    I've owned a DeWalt
    random (adjustable) orbital sander for 10+ yrs and always got great dust collection w it hooked up to my 5.5.hp shop vac or not. Vibration isn't tht bad either..maybe Q.C. from 10+yrs ago has changed from good to worse .. just like my 734 lunchbox DeWalt planer had it for like 12 years sold it a few years ago and got back into Woodworking and re-bought it and it does not perform nearly as well as the one I had 12 years ago..so I'm thinking quality control products has gone to crap over the years

    • @AnthonyScolaro1
      @AnthonyScolaro1  Рік тому +1

      Yes, quality control is out the window on a lot of dewalt products these days. It’s all about the quantity they push out.

      Have you ever tried a real sander like festool or mirka? It's day and night

    • @AnthonyScolaro1
      @AnthonyScolaro1  Рік тому +2

      @@MrTresto I use the mirka everyday. I also have the festool rotex and the dts400 detail sander. There is no comparison. festool and Mirka have the best.

    3 of those tools probably added up to the cost of the domino! 😆
    I think with all the time you spent trying to explain how the festool clamp works you could have just shown it in action, probably would have taken half as long and make more sense to people. The clamp is especially poorly suited to thinner material, as it can flex the material as it tries to squeeze it.

    • @AnthonyScolaro1
      @AnthonyScolaro1  Рік тому

      I would have demonstrated the rapid clamp, but all my tracks were tucked away in the TSO storage bag you see hanging on the wall in the background. I just got back from finishing up on site work and I wasn’t about to start unpacking lol. And I definitely wasn’t pulling the track off my MFT table.
