  • Discover how, if the world is to meet the more ambitious climate goal of the Paris Agreement, changes to the energy system must happen faster.
This is illustrated in our Shell scenarios, which explore a range of possible futures to help make better decisions today, for tomorrow.
Our three newest scenarios are all on a path towards net-zero CO2 emissions. But the choices society makes will determine how quickly the world moves towards net-zero emissions.
Industry, governments and society must work together to make the right choices, now. This needs to happen in particular across the economic sectors that consume the most energy: industry, transport, buildings. Increased power generation from cleaner sources will be critical.
We believe the world can achieve net-zero CO2 emissions to meet the goal of Paris. Our scenarios also underline great opportunity in the transformation of the energy system.
Shell is becoming an energy business for the future and is playing its part to help drive that change.

Funny. I went for an interview at Shell about 25 years ago - and one of the interview questions was “what should Shell be investing in for its future”.
I suggested alternative, renewable energy - and was basically laughed out of the interview process. Never did get the job.
    How times change.

Shell is betting on hydrogen as car fuel, not electricity, even though that will take longer to sufficiently develop.

Given where we have come from, it is hard to accept this at face value. Shell needs to show authenticity. Start by taking responsibility, try apologizing. Take a leadership role for others. Convince us it is real by being honest, especially when it is not positive. Will a reduction in energy consumption be necessary? Are renewables a viable replacement? Can the infrastructure be rebuilt in time? Personally I would like to see oil and gas taking a lead on geothermal power - if anyone has the expertise to make this work, it is them.

CREO QUE NO HAN ENTENDIDO QUE DEBEMOS REGRESAR A LAS CONDICIONES CLIMATICAS DEL AÑO 1975. TANTO EN LA CONCENTRACION DE CO2 EN LA ATMOSFERA COMO EN LA POBLACION. MANTENER LA POBLACION SIN CRECIMIENTO.

I knew this was coming years ago. The day Shell, as an era changing oil trust implements the importance of renewables, it is certain that world energy system is changing, I must say as a petroleum engineer. Shell is a key company in my mind to this kind of critical alteration as it is seen before WW1. Hope this time is for favor of humanity..

How is that so? Regardless, the important key area is to support the political parties with green leaning policies. This will definitely put a stop to any potential greenwashing. If government can incentive green policies, definitely traditional businesses will follow the money and switch to green energies. These are small steps to ensure there is still heaven on earth
