Hello Matthew. Guam used to be part of Spanish East Indies just like the Philippines. The native language, Chamorro is heavily influenced by Spanish. Guam and the Philippines share a lot in common as both were colonized by Spain and the US. I’m wondering if most Americans know that the Philippines was once an unincorporated territory of the US for about 50 years? Is it taught in schools? I’m just curious. Anyway, enjoy your stay and looking forward to your next adventures. Stay safe!
Hi! Yeah, that is right. To be honest, I don't remember if they teach it in school but I think many people understand that they were both colonized and occupied for some time.
Do you plan to travel to other islands in Micronesia? They are not very well covered and could be interesting stepping stones en route to Hawaii and mainland US?
It is a good idea for sure but actually, the cost of traveling to them is crazy. Right now round trips from Guam to Saipan (next island over) is $500. But when I go back to the US, it's usually through Hawaii or Japan as those are the best routes
@@MattReardonVlogs Wow $500 is hefty! I'd previously taken an island hopper service (currently operated by United) that made 5-6 stops en route from Honolulu to Guam. We were only on 30 minute transits on each of those islands, but I wished I could have got off to explore - most of them looked awesome. Not sure if there's a ticket to Honolulu that allows you to stopover in a few of those places - that's on the bucket list for me, at least, lol.
I’ve never been on Guam Island. I’ve been to Fiji and French Polynesia though. And yes very expensive islands. That beach across some buildings kinda reminds me a bit of Waikiki Beach. Yay good news that you’ll be coming back to the 🇵🇭. Matt take care and see you on your next video.
I'm in Wyoming. Planning a trip to Guam in February. Hoping to camp and hang out on the beach for a couple of weeks. Is that still possible, or do I have to stay in a hotel?
I live in California I spent a year and half in Guam I love It asan beach is one of my favorite❤
It's a quiet one where not many people go

I'd imagine that you can camp on the beach in the more remote areas, bet probably not so much near Tumon/Tamuning
