Useful video, been meaning to do this scramble for a while. I take it sticking to the crest is a grade II scramble? By the way you need to add the 'g' to ridge in the title. :)

Yep scratches work really well, but obviously only in areas and with routes that you know are busy in winter, will work well in most of the busier Scottish areas.

Are we just all suicidal in the US? I have never scrambled with a rope in the Colorado 14ers, on class III scrambling or class IV climbing, but climb well within my ability.

They're professional instructors making an instructional video, so they will do things a bit more by the book than you on your own off camera. Scrambling III or IV ropeless seems fine for good climbers

In britain we have scrtambles grades 1, 2 and 3. its the merger between waking and climbing. They are not classed as climbing there is a bit of a merge with climbing grades between 3 and the easy climbing grades of D (difficult) or VD ( very Difficult) we have no 4 in scrambling so i think your getting your grades confused. After watching the video what US grade do you think this is?
