Argonians and Khajiits in Skyrim are the most OP characters imo because of claws, water breath, poison resist, disease resist and the best of all, a mod that gives their tails a piece of armor so you can look fancy about it

    • @weaponizedpizza8825
      @weaponizedpizza8825 3 місяці тому +46

The funniest part about skyrim khajiit is that claw damage still applies while wearing gloves, including the gloves of the pugilist which increase your melee damage significantly, allowing you to just kill everything in the first half of the game with two punches.

As much as I love playing Khajiits, I actually disagree with this take. Unarmed isn’t useful past the early game (yes, even in AE) and poison/disease resist in pretty inconsequential due to the werewolves and vampires giving immunity and one of them giving buffs that will work no matter your build and with almost no drawbacks.

Is is possible to play as NOT the dragon born, so long as you never meet the Jarl of Whiterun, the dragons will never spawn and you will never be revealed as the dragon born. The best part, it that all the NPCs that recognize you as dragon born will have alternate dialogue.
So yeah, you can just fuck off and do the game as regular joe.
Only real down side is that you can't finish the civil war. But the Skyrim unbound mod fixes this

I hope one day The Elder Scrolls provides the player with a New Game Feature that allows you to play as a different type of character after beating it the regular way. For example, if you want to you could start as a new Initiate of [Insert Faction] or a type of resident of [insert town/city]. Yay for Alternant Start but it’d be nice if this was a feature in the actual game instead of a mod.

Not long after I got my Steam Deck (not long after it launched) I used vanilla Skyrim as a practical performance test. I intended to run the Helgen opening, then use console commands to go to various places to check the performance and just generally muck around a little. Maybe 60-90 min at most... around 35 hours later I had to reconsider calling it a performance test as well as consider some sleep. Ended up playing ye olde vanilla Skyrim for around 300 hours and then another 100 hours mucking about with mods.
I have played thousands of hours of Skyrim, but that was the first time I played the official vanilla Skyrim since launch for any length of time. It was also the first time I had played Skyrim in a few years at the time. I honestly had thought I wasn't going to get absorbed into a non-modded Skyrim, but that thought was quickly quashed. In the end it really just cemented how great of a game it is, even with its unending list of flaws.

    • @MaxUltimata
      @MaxUltimata 3 місяці тому +4

People complain about Skyrim's many flaws exactly because of how long it has been played. Hundreds of millions of collective hours over the past 13 years and countless mods is plenty of time to identify every last glitch and scrap of jank until that is all so many people can see.

I swear, that damn chicken from Riverwood...
The year was 2012, the console was a PS3. The target? A damn chicken. It was a simple question. Can I kick the chicken? Will there be a cuckoo response like in Zelda? Enter Me, a young high elf, only a mere 350 yrs old. Sneaking. Creeping. Hunting....
There, blissfully unaware of her impending doom, just casually crossing the road, walked a chicken! I had spied her, my heart! Anyways, I digress. As I drew back the string, I paused. A breath, a quick glance at the thin slit of an eye to tell me I was unseen, and I let my arrow fly!
WOOOSH! Flies my arrow, true to my heart! A perfect strike!
So, woe be me when out of nowhere comes a bounty?!?!? The F*CK? This BROKE the rules. I was livid. Confused. Spiraling out of control as I ran for my young (comparatively) life, I questioned everything. Does stealth work differently in this game? Was there a hidden guard? Did the game somehow include deductive reasoning in the NPC's?
Eventually, I realized the truth. The awful, unavoidable truth... The chickens are a protected class in Skyrim. Not protected like vital NPC's, but more protected like the polar icecaps and Skyrim is Greta Thunberg. You can destroy them, but be prepared for a lot of annoyance if you do.

The one thing that genuinly made me feel bad in a videogame happened in Knights of the Old Republic. When you arrive on Tattooine a woman approaches you telling that her husband had died and her children were starving. But she had a hunting trophy her husband had treasured, but she cannot sell it because she doesn't have a hunting license. And since you basically get handed one to you upon arriving on the planet she asks you if you can sell the trophy in her stead and give her the money, so she can buy food for her children. So I went and sold the trophy, got back to the woman and told her of the sale but also that I keep the money.
Another really evil thing you can do in KotOR is you can have your Wookie companion kill his best friend, a teenage Twi'lek girl. But you have to be so irredeamably evil to 1) get the girl to leave your party and 2) to manipulate the Wookie into trusting you way more than his best friend

11:00 It's not only the horses. All the vendors have their wares lined up on their market stalls, but when you pick something up, it automatically becomes stealing, when it *should* instead have you purchase the item. And with how cramped some of the market stalls are (esp. the Windhelm ones) and how wide the hitbox of the cursor is, it's easier to accidentally steal than to talk to the shop owner.

On my first playthrough of Skyrim, I froze a bear on a mountain and with the original quirky unpatched physics, he slid down the embankment, accelerating like a bullet until he hit an obstacle and then yeeted off into the sun. Disappointed that I got no XP, I promptly forgot about it and went about my business.
Five in-game days later, I was in Whiterun when a bear came charging into town with the singular purpose of wrecking my sh*t. None of the NPC's took any notice.
I wonder to this day if that beast was the same one I froze, with his revenge bit set to one and a 255 grudge level, stalking my a55 across the wilderness, changing tack every time I fast travelled.

The question of manipulating ai in video games, and talking about Oblivion, I have to mention this as it's something as a kid (and honestly now as a adult) I am proud of.
In Oblivion the Skull of Corruption staff, when used on someone would make a copy of them that was hostile to them, so you would use it on an npc, say a bandit, and a copy of that bandit would appear and attack the original.
Also in Oblivion, as Karl has stated, npc will sometimes pickup weapons that are better then what they already have, this includes staffs.
I dropped the Skull of corruption in a town, punched a few civilians, one of them picked up said skull of corruption, used it on me, and a copy of me proceeded to kill me very quickly, because unlike me at the time, they knew my fully upgraded Blade of Woe was by far the best weapon I had.
I tended to favor the Blade of Woe on the rest of this playthough.

Talking about the AI of Skyrim, I want to share a unique experience I had playing Skyrim on PS3 during the pandemic
I took on Uthgerd as a follower, intending to marry her (I didn't look at the Wiki lol). She and I must have travelled around doing the entire plot, the Thieves Guild, the Companions, the Bards College... She was bad*ss. But finally, we started doing something to do with vampire dens, and no matter how many times I save-scummed (which I hated to do, as I'm an avid roleplayer), I couldn't save her or stop her from dying. Even when I stationed her outside the cave, she would come running when the battle started. Finally, I said the Divines had a different fate for us. I dragged her body back to the nearest town and did my best Dragon-born send-off funeral off the side of a cliff where I wouldn't find her. In the meantime, I solemnly took her keys and vowed to keep her home warm until I could mod the save somehow and resurrect her.
About a week in-game of using her chests and sleeping in Breezehome night, being too depressed to adventure without her, a Whiterun guard stopped me as I exited her home one day. He said something along the lines of "Uthgerd appears to be missing, the townsfolk have seen you but not her. Do you know where she is?" And I explained she fell in battle. The guard was like "Well that's unfortunate, but you can't be here because this isn't your property."
I was stunned. I've asked other Skyrim players about this kind of interaction, and I've been met with: "Are you sure that's real?" I'm beginning to think I made it up in my fervor of roleplay! But I remember the genuine shock and surprise of having such an in-depth conversation with the NPCs about a character I cared about extensively.

When I played skyrim I had a high elf necromancer vampire. Her main house was in riften. One time a dragon attacked and my go to shout is call storms. Anyway the storm wrecked the town and built up a huge bounty. So because I was being attacked I just butchered the town and made it my main feeding base. Every time I had to feed I'd just summon two daedra to attack the town and keep the guards busy while I snuck in and fed on whomever I found first.
I also kept like 10 bodies in the basement for the permanent dead thrall spell. So had people broke into the house they'd have found a pile of corpses in the house of the vampire that on a near nightly basis sends daedra after them. I was a monster. Lmao.

I can't take credit for this because I learned it from the Web Comic MacHall, but in Morrowind, the NPC commentary on the PC not having any clothes on was higher on the dialogue tree than any of the lines guards are supposed to say when punishing you for a crime. I remember making a set of 100% Chameleon armour in Oblivion. Chameleon is a spell that lets you blend into the background, making you harder to spot. If you took a Grand Soul gem and filled it with the strongest type of soul and put that gem into a piece of armour, it would give you 20% Chameleon. Make and wear 5 such pieces and you are now effectively permanently invisible and NPCs will not react to you doing anything, be it stealing, casting spells or even attacking them. After that I was basically just casually strolling into Oblivion gates and closing them without ever having to unsheathe my weapon.

I love playing lawfully in games like GTA, because it is a challenge. Most missions are impossible without some leeway, so I minimise the damage I cause, but the rest of the time is not attacking NPCs, keeping to traffic laws, etc., accompanied by some of my favourite songs through the use of the custom radio station

I never heard about the Oblivion Skooma Mosh Pit, but I remember hearing that one character was set to buy a certain armor as a collector. He would buy all the armor the shop offered, dump it on his rug, rinse repeat the next day, and testers could never buy armor in that one city, and going into the NPC's house late-game would crash the game.

    Mentioning the radiant AI
I think the system woulda been absolute GOLD if NPCs werent finite. Even "Shithead 35" will never respawn. Or at least the GUARDS will, iirc?
Either way I think if we had a lot of random NPCs to fill out slots that respawned it'd be really cool cause then you can find that drug dealer having been murdered for his drugs thing and go "Oh shit- Thats kinda sad." and not immediately be like "aw for FUCKS sake"

Yes I was thinking this exactly! I've had one save for over six years on PS3, and it feels so empty now. I realized that through all the adventuring and battling, and with none of the children growing up to take up new roles, the population of Skyrim is set to dwindle. It would be so cool to have mods with like, new travelling caravans, options for children to grow up and/or new children to be born, basically just add one more layer of fluff RNG mechanics to keep the world alive.

Not wanting to be mean to NPCs is how some roomies and i came up with "Nice City".
It's almost impossible to play Vice city without running over NPCs because of their marked tendency to fling themselves joyfully in front of your car.
The 'par' for the game is (Far as i remember) 350 NPCs must ded to beat the missions.
There are ways around this. Mostly involving jumping out of cars just before they esplode.
My roomie managed to beat the game with 150 under par NPCs deded.
    Epic. Totes EPIC!
I totally recommend trying it. It is so hard to get even close to par.

I think the one time I genuinely could not go through with something in a game was GTA IV. I remember this one mission where you had to bust some guy out of somewhere, and the entire time you're driving away with him, he's just so happy to be free, until you get to the end point and he realises you've only 'rescued' him just to kill him off. I... I just couldn't do it. I walked away, both in-game and in real life. I don't think I've played any GTA game since.

    That NJRUA sounds super rad.
On the note of morality and dogs in games, it's always the worst thing playing something like Far Cry or Last of Us or whatever and they force you to fight them.
The combat tutorial of one of the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous involves saving someone from their possessed dog and the only way to progress is to kill the dog, and the person blames you for it, I reloaded it repeatedly to try to find another way and couldn't save the dog so I quit.

Yeah makes total sense that she'd hate me if I picked money, but still hates me EVEN IF I decide to revive everyone from the spire? OR make the choice she would likely choose and revive my loved ones?! Sure that last one is still mildly selfish but at least you're still bringing back murder victims that you know personally

Carl man of culture that he is naming his toons wu tang. I had a bard in dnd that was basically just a thief that occasionally threw out a poem or rhyme and i named him odeebie. The dm would describe a scene and setting and ask the oarty "ok so what are you guys doing?" Regardless of the situation odeebie was always 'lookin for shit to steal' that was such a fun character. His cha was insane so i could basically steal something like a ring from an npc and literally use it for reference to help them look for it... Like "did it look like this ring?"
