Purchased a set of plans off David Thomas for his quarter tonner years ago, but never went ahead with it. Will be watching progress of race closely but it is like going thru 'cold turkey'...😀
How did you handle the empty cans mate..they would get smelly and take up room, I suspect you would have washed them well and removed the bottom and crush them flat and store them safely
Also many lithium have issues with water intrusion. If they get wet they can power down. If you have water intrusion the last thing you want is for your pump power to turn off.
Decades of offshore in a small boat make you develop solutions to small things your weekend sailor would never think of. Interesting little boat. Too bad it is so ugly.
Unsinkable doesn't exist. Positive bouncy does. Say something breaks up the boat. I'd rather sit in a raft than cling to a boat fragment. Or say there is fire, Id rather sit in a raft than cling to what ever charred remains of the boat floatation assuming there is any left. GGR has a boat sink. And all the crash space full of floatation did absolutely nothing to even hesitate the rate of sinking. That sailor floated, literally happy, in his raft until Kirsten got him.
This guy loves what he is doing and it shows. Happiness is doing something you like and he's found it.....what a joyful man.
That bubble window is genius
Smart set up. Way cool!
We need more 580 hype! More videos please while I don't find the room to build mine!
there is a lot on UA-cam now and more coming ...so enjoy!!
Great stuff, thanks for showing us inside your boat. What's in your grab bag?
Nearly a full understanding now. Much information. Thanks.

This is so great! I live on my 30 ft 1973 boat so my brain is overwhelmed with information. Anyone know a source for the jet boil gimbal?
google UK has then
What is the brand name of your cans of "wet food", a provisions list would be appreciated.
no special brand just the French supper markets are beyond belief with restaurant meals in cans and jars :)

yes basic wash and not many cans..lots of foil and plastic and only 28 days with plenty of space onboard up forward to light stuff...
Why not lithium battery?
expense and a few boats have sunk ,caught fire etc

Nice,but "camera man terrible

beauty is in the ye of the beholder and function and form are great :)
Why isn't the boat unsinkable by design? You wouldn't need a life raft then and it would actually improve your chances of surviving a catastrophy.
There are instructions on the official site on making the boat have positive buoyancy. So it's optional, but in the design as an option.
you still need a raft even if non sinking as they can catch fire , and break up?? so watertight bulkheads work..
@@mcintyreadventure That's very improbable but sure, having a life raft doesn't hurt but I'd still prefer to rely on the boat being unsinkable.
@@yarpenzigrin1893 but there is zero unsinkable boats on this world. What feature are you missing from this design?
