I've never played a MOBA before and while I have played hero shooters that part seems to make it even worse because it's such a paradigm shift to go from something like OW/valorant to this. But it's insane how much attention to detail this game has, it's much more complex than it lets on.

this game has SO much potential. coming from someone who wrote MOBAs off, deadlock's choice to be a third person shooter really helped me bridge that gap and gave me the motivation to learn more about the complexities. my biggest issue, though, is that currently the in-game tutorials are incredibly barebones (its mostly okay since the game is in alpha) and required me to look up guides like this video to properly understand simple but obscured information. i think this game's success and longevity hinges on having a thorough but welcoming tutorial so that players can pick up on all the basics they need to understand so they have enough surface level knowledge to begin interacting with the games deeper mechanics without having to constantly look things up. if valve can pull through, i think deadlock can shift the tides of the multiplayer gaming scene in a huge way.
You can trust the community that poured hours upon hours of their time playing the game for all the details you need to get started, which is pretty awesome.

Actually, dota itself has very few abilities that scale off anything at all. Out of some obvious ones that scale of attack damage, there are only I would say 5 whole abilities that scale at all.
@@skyscrapersheaf5300 The scal;ing can be personalized however the devs think it's the best, even in LoL if I remember correctly there were some characters that made more damage the more tanky you built, what matters is making it clear, and I think that deadlock is clear enough
@@rayder3543 not going to lie, I clicked the video thinking I was going to be told it worked a different way than expected then pleasantly surprised it DID work exactly how I expected. Even in popular games like Genshin, you have % scaling on stats per abilities. From a purely balance perspective if two characters have damage abilities, and one is on a 3 second cd and another on a 6 second putting this in a vacuum you might expect the 6 second ability to get 100% of value and the 3 second one to get 50% ensuring they scale the same. Ignoring all other variables of course. Feels like this is the most intuitive and expected approach.
Yeah. I wasn’t sure if this video was just about this but it is… After thousands of hours in Mobas especially after Dota, pressing alt for the actual scraps of information in the tooltips has become second nature.
So it's literally ability power scaling in any other MOBA. Only certain abilities are affected by it, and the abilities that are affected are affected differently based on a scalar percentage. I think it's really cool to have some characters get bonuses other than damage for their abilities based on Spirit, like the movement speed guy or magazine size guy. This isn't just another AP/AD system like what we always see.
You gotta keep in mind, this video isn't for MOBA players, this is for people who are new to the genre. Obviously League players will understand the system because it's literally identical.

I've found that there are a lot of abilities in this game that scale with something other than what you would intuitively think that they scale with...and the game doesn't really tell you

It should be noted that the spirit store also has a lot of items that modify aspects of skills that don't get affected with spirit power. Spell duration for instance will increase duration of all spells where it's relevant, regardless of whether or not duration scales with spirit power.
there's lots of interactions like that, though. I assume there will be a video specifically about items sometime in the future. I'm personally a big fan of range extension on some heroes, since it also affects things like area of effect radius, but I think most of the spirit items are pretty good. I often end up buying mainly spirit items, except on characters that absolutely need different item classes (like Abrams who thrives off survivability items, or Haze who benefits tremendously from weapon upgrades; neither of those are my favorite heroes, though).

Succinct, helpful. Great guide. It's definitely a little confusing at first, I initially thought the bright purple highlight meant that certain skill attributes were conditional and only active when lit up, took me a few minutes in the sandbox to realize I was wrong.
If you hover over an item in the shop it shows you which stats it woulkd effect by how much (or if at all). Basically it shows every base stat, skill or item that would be effected in regards to: duration, cooldown, HP, MS, Bullet DMG, Skill DMG, etc. etc. even Self DMG for Lady Geist. (i think the only exceptions are "Superior Cooldown" and "Superior Duration". Here the change for the desired skill won't be shown untill you select which skill you want to change - But the general changes will still be displayed even before that.)
Thanks this actually helped, even though I mostly already got it. They make it really ambiguous in-game with mixing terms like "Spirit" "Spirit Power" and "Spirit Damage" and "Spirit Ability" etc. Especially the first three seem to be used interchangeably.
So, similar to League, some characters have AP (Spirit Power) scaling, some don't. For those that do, their scaling varies, and that variation determines whether or not to go full Spirit Power or something else. A good example to look at is Yamato's kit. Barely any of her abilities scale with Spirit Power, except her 1st ability, which has an insane amount of scaling and base damage. If you look at it in isolation, her 1st ability is an insane nuke tool that can dish an insane amount of damage, while giving 60 bullet resist. (Therefore, there exists a build that builds solely around her 1st) But then the rest of her kit is the exact opposite, loving a more closeup, weapon damage/melee playstyle (hypercarry), with no spirit power scaling.
more or less yeah, anyone that comes from league like you and I will be able to understand it easier because it’s just a different play on AP. Dota doesn’t really have any system similar to that so I can see where a lot of the confusion comes from 😅

Tldr you need to watch skill-specific scalings by holding alt button over the skill to understand how much spirit power affects your character exactly. The purple star symbol stands for what is being affected by Spirit Power and what's the coefficient is.
This probably wasn't your intention, but I feel the section at 1:14 could be misinterpreted by new players to mean that Paradox's Carbine isn't affected by spirit power at all, when the clip is only showing that its damage isn't affected by spirit power. That ability gets increased speed from spirit power instead (imbuing it with Surge of Power is particularly effective since it grants a flat speed increase on top of the extra spirit also granting more speed).

funniest thing imo that scales with spirit power is haze's ult duration. You can reach absurd duration of it if you fully invest into spirit power (don't do it please, it's only funny in firing range, and in the actual matches you are gonna get stunned out of it or simply killed).
Bear in mind that scaling values are not created equal. A 0.5x multiplier on an ultimate ability that has 300 base damage anyway is not very impressive, but a 0.5x multiplier on a damage (or even better, heal) per second ability is pretty decent. With 100 spirit power (0.5*100 = 50 scaling added), you would improve your ultimate by 16% (50/300 = 16%), but with the 0.5x multiplier on a heal that has, say, 50 base heal, you've just doubled its effectiveness from 50 to 100 hps.
I will also add that some heroes have one or two abilities with exceptionally good scaling, such as Grey Talon's charged shot. I've found that investing into Surge of Power, which gives +28 (or with the latest patch +34) to a single ability (on top of the base upgrade you get anyway) can be very much worth it in those cases.
Man love playing grey talon for this exact reason And his ulti gains 5 spirit power for each kill with it, which means, in theory, that you can stack his speed infinitely))))
can you make a video on build making? some public builds have a space where there are 4-6 slots for surviving through specific scenarios, I know there's one that sends out a shield when you get silenced or frozen in place, I need one of these guides so I can add it to my builds once I start making them. Considering to this day TF2 has the exact same issue, I guess Valve just doesn't have good track records with tutorials

@@pixelmaster98 Full Spirit Lady Glasc AoE is insane, you can throw bombs across the entire map and clear camps or waves this way.
