    "Schwarzer Mann" in this context primarely means "Boogey Man". However, I think Rammstein liked that it also means "Black Man". Because this kind of fear of other people they are describing is strongly interwoven with the fear of people from poorer countries that have a different skin color. For example, many Europeans fear that the flood of refugees from Africa will never stop and eventually destroy "white" Europe. Similar to the situation of the USA and South/Central America.

    They are an extraordinary band and they'll be sorely missed when they finally call it quits. I thought Till's vocal delivery on this, especially at the breakdown, is so powerful it moved me to tears. His commitment is amazing, he lays it all out there, even after all this time.

    Thank you, bless you! You've dobe my favourite recent Rammstein's music video ♥️ I love literally everything about it - beginning with a song itself, through the colours used, ending with the mesaage. The way how they have shown how "mad" politicians inject fear into the minds of happy, friendly citizens with use of media is so simple, yet extremely catchy. The style of the video is so eye-catching that we're sucked into it just like these poor people are. And more fear is injected into our minds, we feel more and more uncomfortable, we spend our money to build little prisons for ourselves - and treat absolutely everybody as a potencial threat.
    See how well we've been played during the pandemic... and every other crisis that happened. Everytime we are being scared and all we need to do is sacrifice "a little bit" of our freedom, of our privacy. And yet we realise, that those who tend to protect us, are actually abusing us.
    And you definitely need to do "Zeit" next 😁 Use the video from educatedmarine, or just the autotranslated CC's like here - these are good enough 🙂
    And one thing: although "Schwarze Mann" is boogeyman, you need to take into regrd that Rammstein love to play with words. That's why we have these women who seem to be trapped in refugee camp during migration crysis, that's why during credits they are eating desserts once called "maur's head" (now official name was changed) and so on...
    Have a nice day! ☺️

    I think angst is a good description of what social media and by extension the news media perpetuates because it's what sells. Like the way people slow down to look at an accident, horrible things draw people's attention and it gets views and thus generates money, but seeing that stuff constantly has its toll on everyone. You eventually end up where people are looking for these things where they don't exist as a way to promote themselves or their business, creating false fear and panic.

    The things they are eating at the end are nowadays called Schokokuss (chocolate kiss), but they used to be called Negrokuss (negro kiss) in German. They've been renamed some years ago after considerable debate about the name. This was an issue in many European countries. In French for example they were called "negro head". Rammstein's eye for detail shows again.

    Boogeyman - Der schwarze Mann

  • @codydaigle4354
    @codydaigle4354 Рік тому

    Wolfman is correct "Angst is Rammstein for fear"

  • @foofourtyone
    @foofourtyone Рік тому

    The lyrics were poorly translated. "Der schwarze Mann" or "Black man" has two meanings in this video. One, it refers to the Boogeyman. The hook of the Song goes "Who's afraid of the boogeyman?". Which is a kids school game in Germany, in which one kid plays the boogeyman (standing in field A) and yells "Who's afraid of the boogeyman?" and all other kids (standing in field B) "nobody", and the boogeyman goes "but when he comes?", all other kids: "then we run" and the kids are starting to run towards the bogeyman (across the middle field). The bogeyman tries to get to field B and on its way catching the kids by tapping them three time on the shoulder. They them selfs trying to get to field A by dodging the boogeyman. If the boogeyman catches a kid, it then becomes the boogeymans helper and is supposed to catch other kids. Then the next round begins in the opposite direction. Obviously the game ends, when only one kid is left. In the Video it means that fear of the boogeyman (or the unknown) spreads human by human. Maybe referring to groups like Q-Anon or flat earther or similar groups. One started the rumor and other people follow, mostly out of fear of the boogeyman.
    The second meaning is "The black man". Standing as a synonym for foreigners, more precisely refugees. As the war in Syria began, Germany was flooded with refugees. Some people were in fear of the unknown (mainly afraid of believers in islamic religion) and began to form groups against refugees or already existing nazi organisations became bigger. Spreading hatred and racism. Especially one incident was a great factor, where on new years eve 2015/2016, around 290 (that authorities know of) north African and Arabien man, sexually assaulted many woman by groping during a "party" at the Cologne main train station and Cologne cathedral. The Media at first was restrained to fully report about the matter. Because they knew what would happen. They knew about the uprising that would happen on a topic like this. And of course, it happened. There even were discussions of changing the law.
    In the end of the video you see the band members sitting on the couch eating candy. It is called "Schaumküsse (foam kisses) or "Schokoküsse (chocolate kisses)". It's a very sweet mouse like foam, made out of sugar on a small waffle, covered with chocolate. Before 2005, the candy was called "Negerküsse (negro kisses)" or "Mohrenköpfe (moor heads / negro heads)". I think it's obvious why the renaming happened, although the name was never intended to be insulting. But it symbolizes the bivalence of most racist people. Being against (or in fear of) foreigners but also enjoying certain things that foreigners had brought to our Country.
    Side note: foam kisses were not invented by black people obviously, but from the Danish and it is 200 years old. In other Countries like France, Belgium and Netherlands they also were called "negro kisses" or something similar. So it is not a German phenomenon.

    The Boogey Man is called "black man" in Germany because he is a dark figure, when this term developed people with black skin color weren't even thought of because there were hardly any dark skinned people in Germany at this time, only after WWII with Germany becoming open to the world anbd even more in the recent years with the migrant crisis because of the wars, Germany became multicultural regarding POC. The kids game "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" (Who fears the black man) (which till cites in the lyrics) is said to be established as part of the plague games in medival times to teach children to stay away from strangers an sick people with black spots (the plague) on their skin, and is a game of catch that is/was famous among german kids until my childhood 30 years ago. One kid screams "Who fears the black man?" the others scream "nobody does" then the first kid asks "and if/when he comes?" the other reply "then we run!" and the game starts. Now with the new demography in germany the game might send the wrong singnals to kids (being misunderstood) therefore most people don't teach it anymore to their kids. Just like the word "Neger" which means "Negro" and is origninally non-discriminatory, is "banned" by society because migrants confuse it with the N-Word and it sound offensive to them. The Dickmanns Marshmallows were originally called "negro kisses"(translated) in germany but that was also banned (unofficially), this is not offtopic because it is exactly what the band is nibbeling on in the credits, which again shows, that Rammstein intentionally does not only speak about the Boogey man but also makes use of the double meaning saying "We treat/fear black people and cultural change like we fear the Boogeyman".

    There is a children's game in Germany called, who is afraid of the black man? Schwarzer Mann literally means black man. Historically, this meant the Grim Reaper. But it can also simply describe a person with dark skin. They change the original meaning of the children's game to address xenophobia.

    • @sarcasticconsultant378
      @sarcasticconsultant378 2 роки тому

      Yes , they changed the meaning to decry modern days xenophobic issues…
      But the opinions about the games historical roots differ a lot more than you can guess
      - mostly they ara about some kind of "black dressed man"
      - one is about the chimney sweepers "painted black man" (by smut) - who were prejudged kidnapping the children
      - for me the most meaningful root is the "black death" - the personification of the pestilence (fits sooo perfekt to the principle of that game)
      Means - simply saying it's the grim reaper is the most unlikely interpretation...but historically absolutely not about an african (rooted) man

    • @yasminesteinbauer8565
      @yasminesteinbauer8565 2 роки тому

      @@sarcasticconsultant378 Chimney sweeps have long been symbols of good luck. It is unlikely that they are meant. I don't know of any sources that claim that either.
      At the time of the plague in the Middle Ages and at least a hundred years later, the term Black Death was not even used for the plague. Moreover, the game in all its variants speaks of the Black Man, not the Black Death. And just because you like something because it seems plausible to you does not mean that it is correct. In this way, you quickly arrive at false convictions.
      Sources also suggest that there are older predecessors of the game. It may well be that it descended from ancient plague or death dances. And, besides, there's not much difference between plague and death, as one usually leads to the other. In both cases, the dark figure is in the end death.

    the vidio and the song already want to show how the West reacts to people of other skin colors who flee to Europe or the USA or Australia etc. the US is building a wall on the Mexican border, the Europeans patrol with war and police ships in the Mediterranean to intercept all refugee boats. the Australians as well. the media often stir up fear. fear of terrorism , fear of the Russians and Chinese , fear of Muslims, fear of gays and lesbians, fear of refugees, fear of dissenters m fear of communists and anarchists, fear of blacks, ANGST ANGST ANGST. that is why the states are arming more and more because they are afraid of each other. billions upon billions for weapons. the south is afraid of the north, the west is afraid of the east, the east is afraid of the west, etc. and at the end of the vidio you see who you are basically afraid of, a mother from Africa with her children, who hoped for a better future, but again was only locked up behind barbed wire

      Westfale
      There is a lot I agree with here. Especially the reoccurring theme of fear. I don’t know if I am as pessimistic as I want to believe we can change. Having grown up as a child during the civil rights movement and the Vietnamese war, I have seen amazing changes.
      I’m gonna keep love, kindness and tolerance in my life and believe that it will facilitate change,
      Thank you again
