I love how these guys understand how to mix themselves in a live environment. Specifically, both Andrew and Chris' playing and selection of their cymbals. They have a light touch on em, and have chosen smaller, deader cymbals so they don't drown everything else out in that room.
These guys are such geeks... and I say that with love. They know how to create power pop songs.... that stand up and last. They take their craft so seriously. Every album has soul and shows that they are on top of it. I saw them four times. I just love them.
Great live band too. I love the way they switch instruments on stage. They all signed my Commonwealth album. Cool dudes. Jay and Chris were really nice to talk to.
Spin Our Wheels is one of the greatest pop rock songs of the last 10 years. In a perfect world, that song would have been a major hit, all over radio and TV commercials.
I’m really so glad these guys are still doing what they do. Every two to three years they remind me of why I keep coming back to their catalogue no matter how many new bands I bring home on CD.
Sloan = best band of past twenty years or so. See you in Seattle in a few days. Love the new album! Hope to hear a couple of Navy Blues throwbacks. Sinking Ships anyone?
@mountaingoat1003 I was just listenening to my new vinyl copy of Navy Blues when your comment popped up. I just got this vinyl yesterday. It remains my favorite Sloan.
“Making records for rock journalists of the future.” LOL! Well guys, you’re also bringing much joy to rock fans of the present. I’ll be at your next show in Portland OR!
@@christophernewton1437 Kind of, except that Sloan’s kept it going at a modest level of success for over 30 years. Big Star barely made 3 original albums.
@mountaingoat1003 Absolutely! The fans they do have here in the States (like me) love them. They can sell out a small club (couple of hundred) but to me it’s crazy they can’t get bigger crowds. Every friend I’ve taken to see them over the years has been blown away.
@mountaingoat1003 they sell out small venues in big American cities. I've seen then several times in different cities. They always have an enthusiastic audience and always deliver.
It's funny you say Pat looks like Gandalf. After seeing them on the 12 album tour I messaged Jay and asked him to congratulate Patrick on his white wizardhood.
So good, I got a wee bit teary-eyed during every song. And I got to thinking there's almost too much talent for just one band...to spread out the goodness how would they divide the band into two? I think Jay and Andrew together for a British thing and Chris and Patrick for a "alt" indy vibe. Then they get back together for a reunion tour selling out areans world wide.
@@andrewbarrett4276 that's absolutely awesome and i'm delighted and thank you for saying that about my/our own efforts as well, damn nice of you! (and both yt and their bandcamp page are excellent for sampling sloan music both new and old; warning though, you'll likely want to buy a ton of it.
I am sure they all hold a special place in their hearts for the Sloan of old. Andrew has progressed just as much in style, if not more, than the others imo
Umm, No. For the majority of their songs they've used a lot of short delays/reverb incorporated into the mix, especially on vox. I'd say its part of their sound. In fact, I paused one of the songs several times where everything cuts out but the vox just I could hear that "signature" sloan vox sound.

SLOAN are very effin' Cool! Nuthin' geeky about them!
All hail the great songwriter Andrew Scott.
Official Sloan secret weapon, Mr. Andrew Scott.
I miss the days when Andrew played piano on stage
sounds like a lost Navy Blues track... brilliant.
@@nicolerizzo1314 No secret.
Love all Andrew Scott songs especially the ones from "Never hear the end of it"

Totally agree. Like "Wouldn't It Be Nice" great.
The songs sound amazing live. Sound fuller and great harmonies. I am loving this new album

Best band of past 25 years for me.
Not many bands sound this good live. Thank you Sloan!!

Quality versus quantity. You can’t deny that those 3 records were not highly influential? I mean I hear all three in Sloan’s catalog...

I love the new album!....got it on vinyl and its been on steady play...probably gonna be my summer album!
I love Andrew's Pittsburgh Pirates hat! Pittsburgh is the only place I've actually gotten to see Sloan live, too.

Dang this sounds amazing. great songcraft and obviously have rehearsed a bunch. pretty flawless playing each others' songs.

Absolutely incredible
The witty banter... ❤️❤️❤️
Miss these guys and Mr Nelson.
Fucking harmony..... where did it go? Oh yeah, Sloan.
It just hit me how much The Day Will Be Mine recalls the shoegaze sound of their Smeared album.
Awesome!
The Canadian Teenage Fanclub!! Luv it
This needs to be released on vinyl.
Great studio arrangements translate to great live reproduction.
It's brilliant that as tiny as Jay is, his speaking voice is WAYYYYYY DOWWWN. The lost Cohen child.
But his singing voice is quite high. Really nice guy in person.
That shirt encapsulates Chris to a "T." ;)

Sounds great! What amp is Patrick using here?
Oof so good.
Killer.
Telecasters!!!!!!
Anyone know what Patrick’s model is?
@@christophernewton1437 Not sure, but I just noticed he was playing that same guitar back in a MuchMusic Spotlight clip from 96.
