Actually in the real lean move MJ was doing they were locking their shoes to the nails. Even though it's interesting this turned into actual dance move.

What I have never heard anyone talk about is how the shoes themselves at the heel are angled up about 20 degrees so that they would only have to put about 25 degree strain on their achilles instead of the full 45°. Still you would need to still have strong hamstrings and lower back muscles. I have always thought this but have never heard anyone say it. Look at the black on the shoes, that was my clue.
