If combat in this game didn't suck ass this fight wouldn't even be that bad. Blocking isn't even an option against most of his attacks and even the basic combos (barely, if at all) stagger him. People would rely less on I-frame spamming if this wasn't a problem.
Yeah, something about psp version, if you try to use a command when you're getting stunlocked like at 1:50 your character will try to use the command but fail, putting it in cool down without even using it. At least that's what happens for me on psp.
man I forgot the old BBS menu sounds I miss it so much, why did they changed in the remastered version. also I remember the nightmare of the commands, somehow getting a cooldown even tho you didn't used it.

That's because 99% of the player's options in this game are trash against anything tougher than a basic enemy, and the 1% remaining is Dodge Roll, Cartwheel, and Thunder Surge. Everything else is almost suicidally slow due to how the stagger system is broken, too many moves that should be blockable (due to the speed they come out and their high accuracy) aren't, and the dodges not having enough I-Frames.

All dodges have full i frames from frame 1 until they end, including terra's slide (the only reason you can still get hit when spamming slide is that unlike dodge roll and cartweel, it cant be cancelled into itself) and excluding offensive dodges.
Hes doing this fight for fun, and maybe to discover how this fight works with some diferent things that arent the usual surges, he only used fire surge here cus rope was being a pain in the ass during the stream.
@@gablink5190 In the stream, he figured out that Transcendence, the command used at the end, is actually good. It deals decent damage and it puts up a barrier that MF can't walk into if he's outside if it. Even if he does his dash drill attack that strikes you into the air.

Kids have more free time and can eventually figure things out or even get lucky. I was in college, did Ven and Aqua and by the time I got to Terra, just gave up.
Young Xehanort(Formerly Mysterious Figure)really keeps f*cking you up until you beat him in the end. Still, I didn't know he was THIS POWERFUL in BbS and DDD until KH3 where he was neutered during the final battle.
Finally a video of how my first MF victory went. Original psp BBS with Terra using a whole lotta blocks and very little surges. Also you can see the time rewind which is pretty rare to see people talk about.
You were lucky cause that Meteor thing happened to me back in the day and for some reason it pierce through Once More and Second Chance and instantly kill me. Also one major difference between Vanilla and Final Mix is you get stagger much longer in the vanilla PSP version as a result this attack at 3:01 can also be deadly, as sometime he hits you staggering you but goes to far and by the time he come back for the next hit the game doesn't considere it a combo and it kills you but you still can't do anything, and sometime it just randomly pierce Once More and Second Chance for no reasons, in Final Mix this attack isn't an issue cause you can spam Cure or Barrier with Aqua and i-frames through it to avoid these issues.

Here it is. The fight that made me say "Fuck this" and put down a Kingdom Hearts game. Ven and Aqua? yeah sure, why not. This? This was the point I asked myself "Why am I doing this? Can't I just do something else?"

Let's see... enemies breaking stagger on a whim, many commands not coming with I-Frames, which makes them nigh suicidal to use, Terra's dodge not having enough I-Frames while Aqua and Ventus have too many, all the bosses that make Aqua's and Ventus' invincible dodges practically neccessary, command reloading being so fast that basic combos are pointless, basic combos being trash, shotlocks being too unbalanced, bosses having the worst (untellegraphed and/or very difficult to avoid) unblockable attacks, unresponsive (aka floaty) gameplay... and that's all I've got off the top of my head. The annoying thing is even after all that they still made many of the same mistakes with DDD, and to a lesser extent 0.2. Osaka Team should've just been completely replaced with how shoddy their performance is.
I dunno if its this boss or a seperate one, but its said that nomura play tested against him and when he lost like 3(?) times he said "okay, thats hard enough"
This may be a stupid question, but why everyone calls this version of BbS the vanilla version while it added quite a few things compared to the first Japanese release? If anything, this is more of an international version while the first jp release is the true vanilla, is it not? Same with KH1.

The hd ports are based off of BBS Final Mix, unlike the usa/international psp version, you can Air Slide/Aerial recovery from MF's rope so it isn't an guaranteed loss if he catches you and decides to immediately follow up with an attack

this is the Vanilla USA version of BBS running on the PPSSPP emulator, with upscaled resolution and a 60fps code
