hello im looking in to mandarin rat snakes and want to know your care how hot the hotspot should get and humidity there isnt much info on them so any advice is helpful thank you
Sorry I just saw this message! Honestly hot spot depends on enclosure size. These snakes are super sensitive to heat and if it is too hot they will not eat. Most people keep them at room temperature, 68-75°F. The reason I say hot spot depends on enclosure size is because it will be extremely difficult to provide a safe temperature gradient for this species in a small enclosure. I'm currently using a 2x2 cube enclosure for my juvenile, basking spot of 80°F above a basking shelf. The basking shelf blocks the heat from going all the way through the enclosure. Meaning all the space under the shelf stays cool. I would not feel comfortable having a hot spot more than 82°F, even in something as big as a 4x2x2 (which is what I'm planning on as an adult enclosure). I've found mine basks 1-2 times a week under UVB for a few hours. The rest of the time he is burrowed. Active at night. Humidity I would recommend 70% at the lowest. I prefer it around 80% with some spots being +90% so he has options. I hope this helps! @PassionateSnakes instagram.com/passionatesnakes/
Good video
Impressive if you made that terrarium from scratch, it looks really natural aside from being in a cage
Yes, I made it, thanks :)
