I bought a few hundred musket caps, Pritchet bullets and Minie balls for my Parker Hale Enfield. I still need to get it out, but I think I can have some fun with it. The slow reloading means that the 500 musket caps should last me a while. If that gets bad, I have a few dozen musket balls for my Springfield 1816 flintlock clone. All I need is lead and powder to keep that thing going, but I haven't fired it before.

@@kirkstinson7316 If you get REALLY desperate you can make your own black powder and primer caps, I know they have forming dies to make caps out of soda cans and fill them with Armstrong's mixture as priming compound, and anyone who's been on the internet a while knows how to make gunpowder from stuff at the garden center. Reliability tanks, and sloppy chemistry means you foul up faster, but it's still shooting and, arguably, that's a more accurate experience to how it was back in the day.

Can you imagine the reaction of a 19 century shooter, that spent years or decades using this type of rifle, when he finally got his hands on a rifle with self contained ammunition? No more caps, just insert, shoot, eject.

Here in Arizona that would be legal for any big game, but you would have to draw a rifle tag instead of a muzzle loader tag because it loads from the breech instead of the muzzle. In Arizona our largest big game is Elk, similar to a Red Deer/Stag but larger on average. That being said if you have to draw a rifle tag you may as well use a centerfire rifle.

Absolutely brilliant marksmanship, if I may say so. I love the fact that you did it with such an obsolete gun. Getting to see how such guns perform on such a well-designed drill as this one is an absolute blessing so thank you for showing some live history in action like this.
Ultimately this stuff isn't about being the best out there. It is about being the best you possible. This is why I think this is one of the best stage designs out there. The fact that the gun you use is mitigated so much is such a great thing for this drill. Sure, Karl could have likely gotten 3 bonuses relatively easily with a modern rifle but my point is that the biggest limiting factor by far in this drill is you. This drill does a great job putting as much emphasis on you the shooter over the rifle as possible when there are many stages that don't do that.

Good lad Karl grounded himself because he didn't want to spread the virus during pandemics.
    Thank you.
Too bad my back pain won't forgive me throwing 20 kg like that and I do not have a gun :)

Really show the ergonomics of using the rifle far more than just shooting it! Also respect to those who used these and equivalent (or earlier) guns.

I think a good alternative to a 45-pound kettle bell for this drill would be a 45-pound rucksack or pack, which was a pretty standard, minimum weight for a pack when I was in the military.
Maybe toss the pack and wherever it lands is your next shooting position, but you're allowed to rest the rifle on the pack if you choose to.

    6:38 i LOVE the sub-sonic sound....
    .
    BOOM pissssssssssssss TING!
    .
i think super sonic cartridges also do it.... but i normally just hear the TWACK of it hitting a deer......
and its gotta be at longer ranges...... or its all so closely spaced its hard to tell
    .
another thing i find very cool...... watching a 0.177 cal pellet fly threw the scope
no recoil on an air rifle..... and VERY slow FPS.....
    .
when the sun is right.... you can see that sucker fly

I think the Kasarda drill has potential outside of the firearms community as an outdoor field exercise. You have your kettlebell, medicine ball or rock and set distance but you replace the shooting with a set of exercise such as burpees or pushups or even throwing a tennis ball at a target.

The metal capper that they wore around their wrists increased capping speed. They load in a spring loaded holder with one cap at the end as you go.

A Chassepot or a Dreyse would be even better. You still get to use a BP paper cartridge gun without the need to worry about placing a percussion cap before every shot. Perfect SHTF weapon, short of just using a flintlock for lack of percussion caps or a bow and arrow for lack of gunpowder.

7:26 i think that was a bad call, considering they told you later not to hit your rifle. You should just always throw it from over your equipment for safety.

Excellent Carl! What a success Remote Brutality has been, however, there is a downside. The US ammo' shortage has been surpassed by the world kettle bell shortage (wink).

As has been mentioned in previous videos, I think a short safety brief on proper kettle bell throwing is needed. While including everyone in this is an awesome event, I’d hate for someone to get injured while trying to have fun.

That stage is probably close to what infantry warfare was like in 1861-65..a lot of grunting, fumbling and praying. I wonder if my local range would accomodate this excercise if I was the only shooter on the line? One can hope. PS Mighty nice cartriges!

I had a Pedersoli Sharps 1859. While a beautiful rifle my rear sight was made wrong and was mounted upside down too. I sent it back and got another Sharps but then it would never shoot. No matter how or how much I cleaned it, no matter what round, load, etc it just would not shoot. I sent it back to DGW and exchanged it for a pedersoli P53 Enfield. Thinking of getting another one though. Just so beautiful.

Nice video thanks for sharing. One question: I open the breach after firing and the spend musket cap falls off by itself. Ist there a reason to pull IT prior to opening the breach? Thanks for an answer and greetings from Germany
