to 4x on something seems like a really good investment! I want to get into sending cards off for grading but you made it seem like it was really easy getting your money's worth.
That might be a little misleading if I did. I apologize. This is absolutely a gamble, because the same card could get 2 different grades at psa. The best thing you can do is put yourself in position to get potential 10s. Otherwise you are at the mercy of how the grader is feeling.
You're not even getting the exact value he listed it for. Fees, lowballers, market fluctuation. At best you'll probably get 80% of what he said. Still a good return though.
Like dude already said; it's misleading value. I was considering doing this recently with my collection, but you gotta take into account: 1. Cost you paid for the card. 2. The estimated value of the card (mind you that value fluxuates over time and doesn't always go up for every card). 3. The condition of the card (even recently unpacked cards can have damage/imperfections that lower it's grade/value. The difference in value between a 8/9 vs a 10 for most cards is HUGE. You can go from hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars, to like $80 which would be a waste to even send out as grading fees are potential value based. You could easily drop $75 to grade a card that *could* be worth $150, only for it to be worth $80 after grading). 4. Grading, listing, and Selling fees. After all that you have your profit, and unless you have a perfect PSA 10 card that fell out of the sky (or you got with relatively low expense); you likely won't profit much off this endeavor. I feel like people see these videos with zero context surrounding everything I detailed. Especially what seems to be absent in all these vids is point 1. Basically nobody talks about how much money they spent to reach this point and get these cards in the first place. Did they buy tins? Multiple packs to get one of these cards? Trade? Hand me downs? All of that is very relevant in accessing how much profit you're actually making. If you bought multiple tins/packs to get one card you wanted; the cost of the card as far as what it cost you is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than others and will impact your overall profit. However since most pokemon fans are dopamine, lootbox addicts; they rarely keep track of these totals like gamblers who don't keep track of losses... But I digress; that wouldn't be as fun of a video right? 😂🤷♂
@@chrissoto4878EXACTLY. I believe most if not all are in the negative overall in this hobby. The only ones that make profit are the ones posting videos. Noway buying thousands of packs and singles plus grading on top get a net in the end.
@@chrissoto4878 Completely agree. The cost of grading those cards alone was likely more than the 498 that is put on the video as the cost. I didn't count exactly but there are something like 40 cards, and PSA charges at least $15 a card, so that would be at least $600 to PSA to grade the cards. Plus you have the shipping, which you would want to get insured when you are talking about this value. And even insured there is no guarantee that you get back your money if something happens such as the package being stolen. So that is probably around $1100 for the cards and getting them graded. If he sells them he is probably going to pay between 10-15% in selling fees, and chances are there will be at least some he won't manage to sell at full price. And then you run into all the issues with potentially getting scammed by the buyers, you could see to someone that will resell them but you would maybe get 70-80% of the value if you are lucky. So all told I'm going to guess that he ends up around $500 ahead if he sold them all. So then the question is how much labor is involved? Well over 10 hours when you count everything that goes into it. So not a lot of money per hour when you consider the risks. The real money for this guy isn't in grading the cards, he probably broke even or just made a few hundred. What he is likely to make the money on is stuff like the views on this video. 2 weeks and he has 36000 views, and only 40,000 views on his channel. So this video alone is getting him 90% of his views. Potentially he is making between $2 and $30 per thousand views. So at the low end that is $72, but I'm going to guess he gets a little more than the low end. And I'd be shocked if he didn't at least get another 36,000 views during the rest of the year on this video, and the more like this that he posts the more they will feed views into each other. So far looks like he has been posting videos for 4 months, and 16 videos, so around one video each week. So he maybe makes $500 from grading the cards and selling them. But I'm going to guess that he makes at least that much from the views he gains from this video. And if it's part of continuing to build up a channel where he posts once a week then there is a decent chance he will eventually be making more than $500 per video. No risk involved, and probably not even 10 extra hours of work if he is decent at editing videos.
Fun video, it kept me entertained the whole time to find out with you! Suggestions: 1. Change "Cost" to "Grading Cost" to avoid confusion. 2. The "Ka-Ching" after every card was sooo much louder than your voice. Turning the video up to hear you made that uncomfortably loud. I'd lower that by like 50% (or more). 3. Maybe in future versions you can put a little painters tape over the grades beforehand and peel it off to reveal, this way your hand isn't covering the card when trying to show us just the card and painters tape is barely adhesive to plastic so no residue.

Great slabs! Always nice seeing some 10s. But honestly, I'm not sure about PSA anymore. So many people I've heard just crack their 8s, resubmit and get the 9-10. It seems too subjective. I tried out Beckett, it was good but 10s sooo hard! I tried TAG and man that was the best so far. I think they'll takeover from PSA soon, their slab quality is best I've seen and they actually tell you why it got the grade. Just wish it was a little more affordable for em all lol
I agree I don’t like how subjective psa can be either. For now they are the standard though. I think if they had to give a report of why each card got the grade it did they would be a little more consistent in their grading.

Im curious how much money you gained by sending the cards for grading or if its maybe wiser to keep some ungraded. Anyway loved the video and keep up the good work :)
Thank you I really appreciate it. The cost is just how much it was to grade all the cards. Most of the time if the grade comes back a 9 then it's about the same as the cost of the card raw. If you can get a 10 then you usually will see a profit. Some arbitrage plays would be cards you can get for 10-15$ and if you get a 10, they sell for 150-200. Those cards are usually harder to grade in a 10 but the payoff is worth it.
Came here to say this, you could state the "raw card cost" next to the grading cost for people to get a feeling for the value you potentially generate by grading. Besides that, you have an excellent eye for the cards to send in, I really enjoyed your commentary and choice of music. Keep it up. :)
New subscriber, good video. I’m getting ready to go thru all my cards for my first submission. I’m personally gonna be Very picky on what I send in though
I think they are trying to do a population control on how many more 10's go out. Kind of a shame, but one of the ugly truths. Good luck on your Mewoth.
Hello there, I love your videos and I do have some questions about PSA Grading and I’m gonna try to explain it the best I can Is it turn that they won’t charge you until they are completely done grading all your cards? Or until they ship it back to you? I’m guessing it took nearly 2 months until you got your cards back? They give us exact instructions on how to ship our cards. Is it true that we have to sandwich all our cards together with two cardboards? Do we have the option to pay now or they only charge us once’s everything is graded?
Thank you for the kind words and great questions. 1. Payment is not processed until the grading process is completed. 2. The turn around time was about 2 months. 3. Yes you want to sandwich your cards in between 2 pieces of card board. You can do them in stacks of 20. 4. You have to provide a form of payment up front, but they do not bill you until everything is finished.
@@CalvinTheCollector Thank you so much for the response back. It really means a lot. It gives me clear answers on what I need to do. I pulled 3 Greninja EX from Twilight and I’m trying to grade them soon
It cost 498.00 dollars to get 37 cards graded by PSA? I had no idea thier prices were that high? I'm not familiar with Pokémon cards since, I have only baseball cards. I was asked why don't I collect all sports? I've collected baseball only since the 60's being 62 years young there are too many variables. I find it hard to get decent cards in all sports so, I only specialize in baseball, I have a very nice collection and, some cards go back to the 30' & 40's with 90% having higher grades, this Pokémon thing seems like a specialty area and, never ventured in it, you did well with your grades!
Sounds like you have accumulated a very impressive collection. Nice work. I agree about there being so many different variants in all the sports, and it makes it really hard to keep up with them all. I usually only get cards of certain players. This helps to keep it manageable.
Seems like the grading is inconsistent.. like depending on what grader you get greatly affects the outcome.. the variance in the 9s is crazy, makes me think there should be some 9.5s in there
The 498 is just the grading cost at psa. Some cards I’ve pulled and some I’ve had in my collection so I wouldn’t be able to give an accurate total on how much i got each card for.
Totally understandable, just Petting the comparison up this way the way you did kinda doesnt make sense cause it suggest the people that u made this X amount of Profit by getting them graded and getting them back with These Grades. If u wanna Stick to it Do smth like "grading cost" and "card value after grading". Otherwise it creates a wrong picture. But thats just my 2cents. Nice Submission anyways :)
no the cost listed is just the grading fees for the cards. I have had some of those cards for a few years, so I did not have an exact cost how much i paid for those cards around the time I got them.
i dont know if this is a dumb question but for sure i am ignorant, do people "battle" these cards? like do they use psa 10 cards in their hard plastic sleaves to use in a pokemon game?? or is it common practice to keep a "second" of lower quality "damaged" deck of duplicates that you'd rather use for constantly playing ?
No you would not be allowed to use psa graded cards because they have a certification numbers and that can identify what card it is if you remember them. So most people play with used cards or cards they don’t mind getting a little worn.
I just got into Pokemon cards this week, which booster packs should I be buying and also how do you get them graded you just send them somewhere or is there in person places as well. Great vid man thanks!
Thanks for the kind words, and welcome to the hobby 😃. If you are interested in grading your cards there are a few different companies that offer the service. Psa is one of the most recognized companies and they have a P.O. Box that you send your cards to. You have to pay a membership fee in order to grade with them though.
@CalvinTheCollector do you ever wear gloves? Ppl say fingerprints csn affect the surface, and could ding u from getting a 10. I wear gloves when opening packs like I'm opening $500 a pack base set 😂
Awesome collection! I am planning on sending in cards for grading soon, I was wondering if they send cards back in the original order you send them in? Since i know they require you to send them in the order they appear on the submission form
i have been collecting Pokemon card since 2001, i think i might have over 1000 cards in my possesion now, but i never graded any of them, wondering how much it would cost me to grade most of my card since its in the US ( and i am in Asia )
You may want to looking into a middleman service. There’s a few different companies you can send them your cards and they can submit them into psa for you. Just do your research to make sure it’s a reputable company.
When you grade cards, how much does it have to be worth for you to send it? I was thinking anything over $50 when you factor in grading and shipping costs
Honestly it just depends on if it’s a card I want in my collection. If yes, then value usually doesn’t matter if no then I would say $20 or up is usually worth sending in. They typically sell for $100 so this risk/reward is worth it to me then.

I think they are trying to do a population control on how many more 10's go out. Kind of a shame, but one of the ugly truths. Good luck on your Mewoth.
Hello there, I love your videos and I do have some questions about PSA Grading and I’m gonna try to explain it the best I can
Is it turn that they won’t charge you until they are completely done grading all your cards?
Wow im super jealous x) great job and hopefully you get an awesome grade back.
My favorite card was definitely that Disney card even though I don’t know anything about Disney cards😂 ceep upp Love your content ❤
Thank you for the kind words. I think the Disney cards might be a nice long term play.
Great video man! Earned my sub!
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
hi thanks for the video, I really enjoy it😁😁😁
Thank you for the kind word.
I got the cz Pikachu as a psa 10 too. ^^
Great taste. 😄
Hey! Some of these look familiar lol
lol I was just keeping them safe for you.
Feel so silly we depend on PSA for them 9 or 10's, when we all know they can be an iffy on grading stuff, but looks like they did good here. 😁
Yea it’s always a gamble
These are pretty good quality videos 👌
I really appreciate that. Thank you very much
Nice return, dude. +1 sub
Thank you for the kind words.
Nice and mimkyu is like a $30 card I got 3 of them
Great taste
Would be interesting to see what you paid for the cards as well, not only the cost of grading them. Great video overall!
I’ll keep that in mind for the next psa return.
Seems like the grading is inconsistent.. like depending on what grader you get greatly affects the outcome.. the variance in the 9s is crazy, makes me think there should be some 9.5s in there
Psa doesn’t offer 9.5s but yes I agree grading can be very inconsistent. That is why most people have an issue with it currently.
how were the 498 costs calculated? raw card NM value + grading costs combined would make sense
Nice video! Good watch 😊
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed.
Keep it up dude. Great vid
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
You're an amazing person 🌹❤️
A new subscriber from Iraq ❤
Thank you 🙏
Just out of interest, the cost you listed is that for purchasing the cards AND cost of getting them graded?
no the cost listed is just the grading fees for the cards. I have had some of those cards for a few years, so I did not have an exact cost how much i paid for those cards around the time I got them.
Just subbed! 929th sub! Almost 1k you got this!
Thank you for the kinds words and support 🙏
that mimikyu tho. i like it
Yea they did a good job with it
i dont know if this is a dumb question but for sure i am ignorant, do people "battle" these cards? like do they use psa 10 cards in their hard plastic sleaves to use in a pokemon game?? or is it common practice to keep a "second" of lower quality "damaged" deck of duplicates that you'd rather use for constantly playing ?
Great return! please add the cost of the cards into the total spent 😢
Will do 🤣
Nice vid bro this is a really good way to make profit dang
Lol yea it is. I usually want to keep all the cards though 🤣
I just sent out 44 cards. Hoping for at least a 50/50 in 10's!
Btw, did you do any cleaning maintenance on the cards.b4 sending?
Good luck hopefully you have a great grader. No I usually just pull the cards or if I buy it I’ll just put it straight in a sleeve then a card saver.
@CalvinTheCollector do you ever wear gloves? Ppl say fingerprints csn affect the surface, and could ding u from getting a 10. I wear gloves when opening packs like I'm opening $500 a pack base set 😂
@@Grimwulf88 gloves have been proven to be worse then finger oils
The charizard ex looks so nice !
Hey bro which packs do you recommend buying for someone who wants to start collecting
Crown zenith, then 151 and then Paldean fates. Good luck with your collection. Take your time and go at your own pace.
is 498 the price for grading + the prices of the card of just the cards prices
498 is just the grading fees psa charged me.
Congrats! It’s always a crapshoot w PSA but this is pretty good rate of 10s IMO
Yea sometimes it’s just left up to if the grader is having a good day or not, and that’s unfortunate.
Awesome collection! I am planning on sending in cards for grading soon, I was wondering if they send cards back in the original order you send them in? Since i know they require you to send them in the order they appear on the submission form
That’s the running joke with psa right now. You have to send them in a specific order and they send them back however they feel lol
@@CalvinTheCollector 🤦♂lol jeeze, thanks for the reply
Wow your cards are clean. Most of my pack fresh cards have cut marks on one or two corners... I hope they get a 10, but what do you think?
Psa will typically ding you for that unfortunately.
the cost is only the grading, without the raw card prices, right?
You got it right. Only the grading fees were tallied into the cost.
i have been collecting Pokemon card since 2001, i think i might have over 1000 cards in my possesion now, but i never graded any of them, wondering how much it would cost me to grade most of my card since its in the US ( and i am in Asia )
You may want to looking into a middleman service. There’s a few different companies you can send them your cards and they can submit them into psa for you. Just do your research to make sure it’s a reputable company.
Really enjoyed your video, greetings from Germany
Thank you for the kind words.
How long did it take to get your cards back?
About 2 months.
New here bro just subbed up....🎉🎉🎉
Thank you man. I really appreciate it.
They typically sell for $100 so this risk/reward is worth it to me then.
did you pay 498 for the cards or 498 for psa to grade them? havent done that before so idk
The 498 was the grading fees from psa. Next video I’ll include the cost of the cards too.
Nice video. Subscribed
thank you so much.
Is the "cost" just what you paid for the cards or also the grading fees?
It was just the cost of grading the cards. Came out to be about 13.75 a card.
they grade vintage very harshly went sent through with moderns. Probably why those ancient mews graded low
Yea they definitely do pop control on vintage cards.
what do you do with all the slabs that dnt get a 10?
I’ll either trade or sell them. Sometimes I’ll do a bulk deal for 9s too
You trade an untraded card and cash for a graded card.
Are the original ungraded values reflected in the costs or did you pay 500 just for grading?
The cost was just the fees for grading the cards. It does not include the cost of the cards too.
