Haha! Why are you watching this old garbage, lmao. I was so terrible at making videos then. Are you doing research? Hmmm... i wonder what is on the horizon... lol
I agree that a secret society of doppelgangers would be cool. I'm currently tossing around ideas of an assassin's guild in my main city that has several doppelgangers in it. Not sure their overall motivation. I'm thinking about making them try to take the place of the king or the king's council. Perhaps some rival lord is paying them to overthrow the king.
This would definitely make for an interesting campaign... Doppelgangers begin taking over the world and putting themselves in positions of power. This monster can be absolutely brutal if they infiltrate society with a common goal or motivation. Thanks Boba!
Thank you for commenting on the video! I'm glad you liked it... the Doppelganger is definitely one of my all time favorites! More monster videos in the near future! :)
They movie you were thinking about is called They Live and it's fucking awesome!!! It used to have the honor of having the longest single fight scene in movie history. Sadly, this is no longer the case.
They Live! Heck yes. Definitely an epic movie. I watched it solely because I was a Rowdy Roddy Piper fan, but was just fascinated by the plot and science fiction of the glasses and aliens among us. So much in fact that years later I refer to the movie in my D&D video. :) Best line of the movie... "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Doppelgängers are awesome!!! I just used one in my campaign. The younger sister of one of the PC's was kidnapped and so the PC's went to rescue her. They did, but unbeknownst to the party the sister was now a doppelganger, placed there in an attempt to murder the PC. The doppelganger failed but is still loose in the small town where the PC's are currently living. I can't wait to have the doppelganger start murdering people in town and taking over their lives.
Well done, well done! The Doppelganger should definitely be a foe that your PCs will remember for years to come. In my campaign, I have a pair of twin brother doppelgangers. One is the everyday, chaos and evil type, while the other is an odd-ball that is curious and compassionate about the human race. The "good" doppelganger is currently taking the place of a party member that missed a game session and that player will be playing the doppelganger in our next meet-up. The twists and turns should be awesome when the character and doppelganger meet face to face.
Yeah, he knows. The player missed a game night so we ran a solo adventure. It picked up after his "real" character was separated from the group. Afterwords we planned on him playing the next game session as the doppelganger pretending to be his character until the two meet up. At that point the party will realize there is an impostor. That's when I will crack open a beer and watch it all unfold. Unfortunately, with the holidays, our game probably won't pick back up til January. :/ I love plot twists in games! lol.
Yeah, my group is on hiatus until January as well. Stupid holiday :D But that just gives me a ton of time to come up with bad guys, traps, and puzzles. I'm currently designing my india Jones style temple dungeon. I'm pretty sure I'll be using at least two of your puzzles, so thanks for that.
My PC's found a doppleganger in prison (he tried to impersonate a royal and was seen by said royal), where they freed it. i like to bustit out from time to time to help them getting some info... or just to troll them (especially the bard, who happened to seduce it a couple of times before it changed shape). it's a fun character that i enjoy playing a lot
Thank you for sharing these awesome stories! I would have loved to have seen the look on that bards face, lol! There are so many fun ways to use the doppelganger. By far, one of my favorite and versatile monsters to use in D&D. I appreciate you taking the time to leave an awesome comment!
We're not all that sneaky.

This video is well done and answered everything I would have asked. Thank you.
Thank you! This is much appreciated. I really enjoyed putting it together. One of my favorite monsters for sure.

That sounds awesome. Does your player know they're going to be playing doppelganger? I'm super to hear how that works out.
