  • This is a shorter video to why I went with the Xsens Mocap suit for my Motion Capture and Animation.
    Lots of great things to come with using this.

    does mvn have free 30min data processing in hd? or do you have to pay $250/month to get hd?

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  29 днів тому

      You will need to pay for hd reprocessing and now it’s $549/month. I haven’t seen anything pointing to free 30min data processing. Thanks for checking out the video

    2:47 I see the same issue I have with my Rokoko V1 suit. Your arms are in a T pose but the model’s are bent and well below the shoulders. I have been trying to capture archery mocap and bent arms hanging low are useless. :/

      This is before Xsens/ Movella goes through the HD Reprocessing stage (Basically clean up), What I recorded is the live capture, when you're done you have to reprocess the animation and it cleans up hiccups. I'm not saying that it will straighten the arms out in complete T-Pose but it does come out better. How's the Rokoko V1 suit on clean up? Is it lots of clean up needed after you record your animation? Thanks for viewing.

      @@GTshortStories I haven't done a whole lot with mine yet. I bought it a couple of years ago and it sat unused. I spent a lot of this year learning unreal and I'm just now getting back to it. It looks like from a few tests I've done that it will require clean up, IClone is what I plan to use for that. I'm trying to do archery in Unreal and can't get the arms working well enough yet. I do love the gloves so far though.

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  11 місяців тому

      @@FPChris I do all of my clean up in iClone as well and from I can tell after Xsens Movella HD Reprocessing goes through it cleans up a lot for me already. Most of the time I'm cleaning up finger data and if my arms are going through parts of my body but I believe you can have most of that fixed if you do a good calibration. Good luck and I hope your Archery videos come out well.

      Hey Ed. Honestly I came back to this and the bit about the arms isn't nearly as bad as I remember. I just ordered the Stretchsense Studio gloves and I'm looking AGAIN at suit/straps solutions. Are you still happy with the XSens?

  • @_SJX
    @_SJX 8 місяців тому +1

    What up Ed? So is this thing worth it? I was looking at buying the Rokoko suit and linking it with Cartoon Animator.....But animator wants an additional $600 on top of the 4k the suit cost.

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  8 місяців тому +1

      What up SJX, The Xsens/ Movella Awinda Starter is worth it in my opinion. The key thing you want to look at when purchasing is how much clean up you're going to have to do later in the process. I use my Mocap suit all the time and the capture data is pretty damn spot on, if there's clean up it sometimes happen in the feet (Feet drift) but most of the time their (Movella) HD reprocessing cleans up everything for you. I don't know enough about Rokoko to make any statements on it but you'll have to look at the pros and cons for both. The thing I don't like about the Xsens is the monthly subscription (MotionCloud - You can choose to pay per/month) that comes out to around $320/month to get your animations created. I don't know if Rokoko has all of their stuff combined so maybe you don't have a monthly subscription based processing. The animation path can get pricey if you want it done right, continue to research and create, measure twice and cut once brotha.

      @@GTshortStories 💯 appreciate your response.. Yea, I'm definitely looking to avoid any monthly fees.
      I see there is a cell phone version of it where a suit isn't needed as well. You can use a duo 2 camera angles method that'll cost $240/year. I just messed around with it earlier this morning.

    How do you think Xsens compares to Perception Neuron Studio? I noticed Inertia system suits always have a lot of jitter, feet and leg problems. Especially with raw data and importing that animation and retargeting to that character, can tend to have some very jitterry mocap ruining the mocap.
    Side question, do you know how to fix the jitter?

    What process are you using for retargeting?

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  Рік тому +1

      I have a few ways I go about retargeting, instead of going over all the steps here I will share a link: base.xsens.com/s/article/FBX-import-into-Unreal-Engine?language=en_US
      The second method I use depending on what type of characters I'm retargetting to is to go through iClone 8 and bring my FBX onto the character (I do this for characters within Character creator 4) and all I have to do is drag and drop the animation onto the character and it does the retargeting for you there. You may need to tweak small portions but it works well.
      Thanks for checking out the video.

      @@GTshortStories Yeah it was a great video. Congrats on your other feature, too.
      We're trying to do the same things, it seems.
      Re the link you sent, I have it too, did you follow that documentation exactly? Those chains, specifically?
      Did you have trouble with your Manus gloves in iClone? Did you pay for the Xsens profile in iClone? My thumbs NEVER retarget properly in iClone, they are always twisted: ua-cam.com/video/DNigw2jS4sg/v-deo.html
      Would love to find a better solution. Thanks, all the best!

      @@synapzproductions As far as the chains, specifically I go off of this for the fingers: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jlzW9nySwymDIvn-_-Qdp7A7S3Mobp4e?usp=share_link try this out and see if it works for you. I didn't pay for the Xsens profile in iclone and when I take an animation there I'm adjusting my fingers manually, which doesn't feel great when you know that you spent an arm and a leg for the gloves. Try these things out and I hope it works out for you.

      @@GTshortStories Definitely cost a lot!
      Did you have any trouble with your metahuman head not moving?
      When I connect the retargeted animation to a metahuman body in sequencer, the head disconnects.
      If I use the UE5 Manny to retarget and make that skeleton compatible with the metahuman, I can see that the head animation is retargeting, but even then it disconnects from the body in sequencer.
      Thanks.

    Thank you for the review. I’m trying to decide which mocap suit I’ll be getting in the next month or so. You mentioned a lack of cleanup. Can you point me towards more info on that?

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  Рік тому

      Yes. The Xsens Mocap suit is the best option in my opinion for least cleanup. They have their HD reprocessing and they clean up your data when processing (I use their Motion Cloud service) Here's the site www.xsens.com/products/mvn-animate The only downfall I see with the Xsens is the reprocessing subscriptions they have a monthly subscription, the Motion Cloud Reprocessing and they have yearly subscriptions. But you can do it month by month. Hopefully this helps and good luck with your future decision.

    Sup brotha, what computer specs are you running to do all this? Thanks

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  Рік тому +2

      I'm running a beast of a computer built from Puget Systems. A Threadripper Pro 3975WX, RTX A6000 with 128gb rams. What I have can be overkill to some but I'm in the process of making an animated feature film and I don't want any hiccups or slow downs in the way. I've been a one man band for a while so I put into my craft and take it serious.

    I’m about to purchase a mo cap suit and I’m new to mocap, blender, and unreal engine. So it’s fair to say I have a long way to go before I can get any animation off the ground. However I have this opportunity to purchase a suit and I’m gana take it. I have all my learning videos for unreal and blender and I’m going thru all of that currently. My question to you is, for beginners is Xsens the right fit for me?

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  Рік тому

      I think Move AI is an awesome motion capture to look into. From everything I've seen so far it looks amazing but it also needs a little clean up work later on. I think for that price it's worth it and I'm keeping my eyes on them for what the future holds. More pros then cons with Move AI.

    • @GTshortStories
      @GTshortStories  Рік тому +2

      I've never used the Rokoko but from the research I've done and the one person I know that owns it, it's definitely a cheaper option but it comes with it's own red flags like everything. My advice to anyone wanting to do this is to get whatever you can afford and start creating. There's always someone/ product better, start creating and as you grow and learn you'll use the best tools for you at the time.
