How exactly is it merciless? The rabbits get a quick death! If it was a fox the rabbit would likely be eaten alive and as for the meat it depends how many you have to feed. All children should be taught how to do this kind of thing.
Amazing dogs doing what they where bred for. Was fantastic to watch ferret and Lurcher work in harmony. NOT blood sport but pest control with nothing going to waste. Thanks for sharing.
That is it they do stumble into the rabbit holes and game over you got a working dog with a broken leg. Is matey boy going to pay the thousand pound vet bill for the pleasure of a couple rabbits on the tablet. These dogs are two a penny for breeders up north
They do stumble though, one did during the film, didn't you notice. lucky it didn't break it's neck let alone a leg. They get injured it's just part of it. But if too serious and too expensive to fix it's game over. But never the less the dogs and ferrets have a great time while they live.
That video takes me back a lot of years... I grew up rabbiting with the dogs and ferrets, my parents ran the HOELS, which was the heart of England lurcher society. Is there anyone there that remembers that? Good old days
Splendid!!..fine,fine hounds in superb condition doing what they live n breath for..a better video I've yet to see..as mentioned previously..almost felt like I was there as you captured the day perfectly..got a head full of memories noo..happy days!!..complimants n thanks guys..
Beautiful. I occasionally work terriers with a longdog and I’m never failed to be amazed at a good sighthound’s clarity, speed, and efficiency & grace in dispatch.
Wow, that is a fascinating hunting method I'd never seen! Now I understand what it means to literally "ferret something out." I wonder if we could adapt it to control the Prairie Dog colonies in the Great Plains? Like the rabbit warrens in your video, the Prairie Dogs create colonies strewn with holes that are deadly for livestock. The little buggers are fast! I wonder how small lurchers would fare hunting them?
Great video. Well put together. I hope the tree huggers see this and realize it's how we used to survive, and I lots of cases still do. Thank you for a great video.
True Thought , I just wanted to let you know I’m a tree hugger and a hunter with two lurchers. Absolutely that’s how we used to survive and will again in the future. We need to keep the skills alive and the land thriving.
Definitely not a gatherer. All hunters there now!! Majestically beautiful dear brother. I hope this reaches you and those you love in great health and happiness😎👍
I tell you what, its as nice to be able to sit at home with my feet up watching this in the warmth of my fire lol, I dont go out as much as I used to as I just lost my last saluki x greyhound last week to a seizure almost hard to watch without getting a lump in my throat . great video
Beautiful film. Showed the dogs and ferrets off beautifully. A couple of moments made me smile too. The calm progressive music was a good match to the action.
One of the best videos on youtube. The way you captured the whole day,The wind, the dogs, the ferrets. Brilliant camera work, felt i was there in some off those shots. The terrain looked so hard on the dogs, yet they coped magnificently. Take a bow all involved.Thank-you for a wonderful video. Mikey.
Thank you for your kind words. It was the hardest film i have ever produced in many aspects. The wind made holding a camera a nightmare, the wind was hindering the dogs and over our shoulders was the rain. That being said both dogs and the ferrets worked tremendously well in harsh conditions both underfoot and around them.
The dogs were lucky on the ground with holes everywhere one wrong step and you got a dog with a broken leg and with these being working dogs the vet bill would be to much. Only going to be one outcome
looks to be the younger dog and probably why it seemed to outpace the other towards the end of the day, the beginning was more equal. also looked to have more collie in it.
I first came across a collie lurcher cross on a walk with my brothers Doberman a few years back and it was the fastest thing I've seen in person on four legs and this one is more beautiful and from some of those sprints could be faster! Beautiful dogs the pair of them
As I'm basically a 'city boy' I am amazed by these dogs and well they're trained. Oh, would I love to be there to watched those chaps and their dogs at work. This is a great bit of videography!
In the us the Mink an uses mink to flush the prey, it not for human consumption the mink hunt rats which he uses then to feed the mink. He for this for the full natural experience of the mink
Here in north central Saskatchewan you will often see either a coyote or fox follow a badger into a gopher (ground squirrel) colony. Usually the badger does all the work digging and the coyote/fox gets to capture the fleeing prey. The badger must be successful too you just rarely see it happen but it must because they persist.
My dog's favourite video, she probably recognises Marske beach and maybe even the moor. I think she also fancies one of the dogs in it. One of the best videos on youtube.
In our country, in our native we catch the hare by searching not by putting the hares in the holes so that dogs catch it. Our native Chippiparai and kanni can even outrun greyhounds and salukis
I won't say it looks fun, but it sure looks satisfying. Coming home with the food and letting the animals do what they do. Clearly a lot of work went into training the animals and working them together so well.
Having great hunting dogs and working them on game is fantastic fun. Personally, I use beagles to run the rabbits to gun and absolutely love it, but I'm sure that this is just as amazing in it's own way. Any hunting dog used on it's intended quarry is going to give the owner great satisfaction.
Well, that was something I had no idea existed. I cannot help thinking this had to be the way our ancestors hunted, with the use of dogs. Mans best friend,
sorry jade dogs are used for hunting then they are disgarted . a greyhound when done. they cut his ear off so he cant be iidentified ( dumped in a ditch some place )
I assume that this is GB. When i was there, at dusk, there were more rabbits in sight than i had ever seen in my life. Alas, no guns allowed. With my little single shot 22 Hornet, i could have dispatched 100 easily without causing them alarm. Still, watching the mink and dogs work is fascinating.
This is the video that got me into it, always had ferrets all my life and i seen this and wanted a lurcher mum and dad spoke about it and eventually said i could have one if i paid for it myself... left school on the friday started work monday morning came home with an 8 week old beddy whippet x collie whippet saturday night first wage went on jess... shes 16 month old now i planned on starting her sooner but covers still a bit thick ill have her going this season
I love this video I am looking forward to purchasing a lurcher puppy but I don’t know what the best breed Cross would be I want one that can handle cold-weather hunts well and does not shed I was actually considering a standard poodle what is your opinion on the best cross for these types of characteristics I would be using it to hunt rabbit in to recover wounded deer from archery hunting and as a hiking companion
I'd love to know the answer to this too! I was going to go for a deerhound cross but was warned by the breeder they need a big house and I don't have that same as you want hunting rabbits and hiking companion
Great Vid, love they way all the workers team up, i love the cold wind blowing - makes you feel alive. At least you don't have big poisonous snakes over there. Nasty Bassterds some of them.
Those hares cando some damage with their feet to the nose of the lurcher if not dispatched. Such incredible dogs that they know to do that. Their speed beauty, ease of maneuvering and keen senses. The ultimate hunter and killer.
Exquisitely shot and produced. I streamed this to the chromecast and watched with my deerhound lurcher. We both enjoyed immensely. In ebay terminology - 5 stars, great supplier. Would hunt again.
Wow the way those dogs fly over the ground pitted with rabbit holes is seriously impressive. Such graceful creatures.
It's always a pleasure to watch good working dogs in action, EXCELLENT JOB!
Idk about anyone else, but I find it very relaxing watching this video. What a beautiful day in the field.
I miss my dear old lurcher Sally so much. She was a bearded collie, greyhound cross. She was beautiful.
I hope you still remember her. She loved you, and is sprinting across open fields forever now
That was a joy to watch. Long may your sport continue.
This is beautiful to watch. Not a single shot fired. And all that good fresh meat with no lead shot in it. Thanks for the show
Do you think it is beautiful, well ask the victims about that.......people like the killing......

It amazes me how the dogs are so sure footed with all those holes out there like that.
How in the world do those dogs not stumble into one of those rabbit holes when running at full speed? Wonderful wonderful
“Created” that way.
Michelle Art Nope. Wrong. Fail. Unless you're calling breeders *creators*.
